I think my income dropping and then childcare on top of that will be biggest thing for us for a long time. I can't believe how much money some people spend on things! We have been shocked by the amount of nearly new thing you can find online, gumtree etc.

We're intending to set aside a little each month just for baby things and anticipate that it should cover the cost of a cot bed, and basics by the time we would be looking to buying things all being well.

I can't decide whether or not to tell family. It is super, super early but some know we had fertility treatment. Ideally I'd want to keep schtum until a few months but so unsure. Anyone got any suggestions?

We decided to wait til after the 12 week scan before telling anyone last time.

As it turned out it was bad news, was horrible phoning people to tell them when I'd imagined the calls being very different.

However I do think it was probably better for the others that they found out how they did. We know for a fact that her parents would have got really over excited and probably even started buying things if we'd told them sooner. Being fussy and trying to do things to help that really would have just been kind but...irritating.

At least it was less of a dissapoinment to them when they knew nothing about it.

I don't know whether it made it easier for us or not, probably.

We're still going to wait til after the scan to tell anyone. Except my Mum and Dad, so we have someone to call on. Will tell them after booking appointment, sworn to secrecy.

Her folks have so much going on at the moment with family health issues. Don't want to give them another major upset.

Really hoping we can give good news this time!
I don't want the first people I call after the scan to be our head teachers again.

We are trying to keep it as quiet as we can. So far just a couple that are very good friends know and my sister and her partner as im so close to my sister and she guessed!! I think another friend has her suspicions so if she asks me outright I don't think I'll be able to lie!!

Once we have had the 12 week scan we will then tell parents and the rest of the siblings. Last time I had a private scan at about 7 and a half weeks and we told close family, so when I had bad news at my 12 week scan it was so hard telling people who had already got so excited so this time we are keeping it very quiet.

We'll have an early scan with our fertility clinic. I think we'll tell our parents after that so we have some support lined up. I'm so nervous about it all and more so after reading your experiences. I do hope it'll be good news all round.

Oh no, you haven't worried me. I'm just as nervous as a cat about all this. I'm still trying to get used to the idea it might be true. (As completely insane as that sounds given I've POAS about 6 times in the last week!)

I think it's totally personal when you decide to tell everyone. We're hoping to wait until our first scan/12 weeks ish before we tell anybody, my family don't live nearby and I don't want them to start thinking about planning visits for certain dates or feeling left out being far away. Some of OHs relatives know colleagues and I can't risk my work finding out from someone else before I'm ready to tell them so we're waiting to tell them too. I think if anything went wrong we would probably find it easier to deal with things if lots of people didn't know, hopefully we never have to find out.

We move in just over three weeks.

I wanted to wait but my mum is lending us some money for the move north so we wanted to be straight with her about a change in circumstance. Make sure she was still happy to lend us the money. As we were telling my mum, we couldn't not tell his. We ended up telling parents and siblings, the rest will find out after the 12 week scan.

I am nervous, I'm hoping that it all goes smoothly. Well as smoothly as possible.

It feels surreal as if any moment I will wake up and it was all a dream.


That amount is insane! What are they spending the money on? I grew up with hand me downs mostly and grandmas that could knit clothing.
