Happy accident! Once he'd got over the initial "well I wasn't expecting that" (especially at 11.30pm after he'd got in from work - he works shifts!), he was really happy. The biggest concern for him was how early on it was in our relationship, not the raft of other stuff we could be worrying about! We're now both really excited but I'm trying to temper that until we're a little further along.
You've hit the nail on the head though with your early pregnancy description - it's driving me potty (no pun intended!)0 -

You fitted nicely into my space DoodlePip.
It has been confirmed. Termination next Wednesday. Gone for surgery as it means being seen much sooner and more likely to work first time. Want to get it over with and as easily as possible. Both of us want to be able to try again, this time with the higher dosage of folic acid.
It did help us feel better though talking it through with the midwife and doctor. They were so supportive without feeling forced or patronising. Genuinely caring and talking it through has really helped.
Midwife had already provisionally booked the surgery for us, so there wouldn't be any waiting around.
I went back to work in the afternoon which was difficult. She will remain off work til she's ready.
It still seems so unfair. But we're coping as well, I think, as you can in this situation.
Saw it again, stretching out, seemed to be doing 'one potato, two potato' with its little hands. But definitely anencephaly.
This was the earliest that they could have possibly found it so we were lucky in that sense.
Hope everything is and continues to go well for everyone else.
Thank you again got your supportive messages they have genuinely helped.
Best wishes to you all

So sorry ian, im glad the midwives and doctors were helpful to you. I had the surgery too and it was the better decision for me. I found that the recovery wasnt too bad, physically. Look after each other in the days to come. Big hugs to you and your wife. XMum of 2 :j0

Really sorry to hear your news Ian. My thoughts are with you and your wife during this really difficult time.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I've been lurking, and have to say how sorry I am Ian, and to your lady. It is an incredibly cruel thing to happen. I hope the surgery goes as well as it can, and you'll be back here once ready to try again xx0 -
I've gone onto the 12-24 weeks thread but it is very quiet so popped back on here to have a nosy.
So sorry to read your posts IanRi, it was lovely to see a man posting and being as excited as all us woman! Hopefully you will be back on here sooner than you think.
Pinkshoes, glad your little one is still sticky and will see you on the next thread for sure - could sure do with some company over there!
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
Hi there
So sorry to hear of what you're going through Ian.
I take high dose of folic acid. I'm diabetic and it seems I run higher risk of neural tube defects.
I'm still spotting every day. Scan not til Wednesday 1st July. The waiting is so difficult!
I am also struggling with my sugar levels. I've been informed that the guidelines for sugar level targets have been tightened which means, if I stick to them, I'll be constantly hypoglycaemic. Not an option for me as I'm a teacher and can't risk constant hypos in charge of 30 kids!
Hoping for a miracle next week. Can't be good to have spotting every single day can it??0 -

I'm 17 weeks pregnant, and I've only just finished spotting... I was spotting constantly since BFP, went to EPU twice I think it was, including when it got significantly more than spotting, and every time everything's been ok. Still ok as far as I can tell baby movement wise, and I'm on the 12 day in a row with no spotting. I've only just stopped feeling sick with worry! So it's impossible to tell with the likes of us, I think. Just thought you might like to read my positive experience that sounds very similar to me0 -
Thanks for that Lucy !0
