I paid for a private scan where I measured 6+1, just a little blob really with a blurry bit which was the heartbeat. I thought I was 7 1/2 weeks at that point, and i had had pain and bleeding, and have a history of MC, but otherwise I think it was a bit too early really for a scan. There wasn't much to see, but it was amazing to hear for the first time 'everything's fine'.

My second one was 2 weeks ago, I measured about 7 1/2 weeks and could see more of a baby shape, and again the heartbeat, but not much else was going on. That was an NHS scan, but I had had more bleeding.

Today's was offered to me after the last one for reassurance, I hadn't had any pain. I have to say, it was quite amazing seeing it rolling around. Unless I have any problems, I have been discharged from the EPU. I am really looking forward to my 12 week scan now, to see the changes from today.

How much is your private scan costing? Mine was £60 and I will also get a 10% discount off any further scans I have there this pregnancy.

I know it will just be a blob but I am hoping they can find a heartbeat, that would be amazing and so reassuring! I know it might end up being an internal scan at this stage, plus because I have a bit of a jelly belly :o so I am fully prepared for that.

Ours is £99. I thought that was not too bad as the private hospital 2 mins down the road from me was £135! The £99 is about a 25 min drive but it is in a nice village and we are going on a Sunday so we might spend the £36 saving on some nice lunch lol and make an outing of it. £60 sounds much better though! I also don't think mine does a discount if you go back. Knowing our impatience, we will probably go for a gender scan too (if we get that far, touch wood) as soon as possible rather than waiting for the NHS at 20 weeks!

Speaking of which, my hubby is so funny, I was texting and referred to little bean as 'him'. He immediately replied 'oh do you think it is a boy?' I had to explain that of course I have no clue but I am alternating between him and her as I don't want to say it. Then he asked if we will be able to find out the sex at the private early scan in a couple of weeks! Men are so clueless! He even has a child already...though she was born 18 years ago...not sure if they told you the sex then? I had to tell him no darling, if there is anything there at all it will be barely a blob at this stage - no willies or noo nahs yet! :rotfl:

Luckily I haven't needed an internal scan this time. Make sure you have a full-ish bladder, but not bursting or everything will be too squashed up to see.

Funnily enough, my neighbour and I keep slipping up and referring to baby as 'he'. I think we will ask not to be told the sex though so we can have a surprise.
  • Thanks for your kind thoughts daisiegg, credit_crunch and any-name. :)

I'm feeling alright, still a bit anxious at any little twinge (despite them being usual pregnancy twinges, you know the ones I mean!). Had a lovely lazy day resting up; am in two minds whether to go back to work tomorrow. One half of me is thinking "what if something happens" and the other half is saying to just carry on as normal - the doctor did say I could go back to work after a bit of rest, as long as I felt up to it... And other than a bit anxious (and back to the good old knicker twitching), I feel absolutely fine! Both bosses have said if I don't feel up to it then not to come in. So will see how I feel come the morning, as I'm not quite sure what to do for the best right now. :) However I am now off to bed for an early night. :)

Mrs_I you must have been terrified, so glad everything is OK and hoping the bleeding stops.

    Congratulations Chickpea0906 :j:j:j

daisiegg I am suffering with SAVAGE wind :rotfl: I've been getting cramps too but I think it is related to the wind.

Bluebell1000 glad to hear the bleeding has stopped and good luck for Monday.

any name will suffice Glad the scan went OK

I bumped into my old boss today (we still work at the same place) he told me his Mrs was preggers then asked me if I had something to tell him! He was just joking...although I am VERY bloated so perhaps his mistook that for a bump lol :rotfl: I had to say no because I don't want my current boss knowing just yet but in a few weeks time I will go back to him and say actually yes I am :T

If it were me, I would stay off just to be absolutely sure and get some more rest. This is partly because it would not make any difference to my sickness record at work, because they do it in 'periods of absence' so one day off is the same as multiple consecutive days off...I have learnt the hard way not to go back until I am absolutely sure, because if you have a day off, then struggle in the next day but are sick and have to go home, that counts as two separate absences and gets you in more trouble than if you hadn't bothered trying to go in and had just stayed off for two days!

Er, I know that is not what you were asking and you have said your boss is very understanding...but just saying...that is what I would do!

Goodnight, sweet dreams :) (and to anyone else who reads this before bed!)

I forgot to ask, has anyone's skin gone completely rubbish? The skin on my face is dry and spotty at the same time and I have no idea how to help it because anything moisturising will probably make it more spotty and anything to get rid of spots will surely just dry it out more.
I NEVER get spots but I look a complete state lol. However on the plus side my hair seems to be playing ball for once!
  • Thanks for the congrats Lailap. My spots have cleared up last week I couldn't see my mouth and chin for spots lol - ok a slight exaggeration but unusually spotty!! Miss I I would get another days rest take today off and rest over the weekend too and hopefully you'll feel better on Monday.

I am actually the opposite! I used to be on Dianette (contraceptive pill) for bad skin, and once I came off it to TTC my skin was awful...always breaking out a week before my period. One of the things that made me feel I might be pregnant was no spots appearing at that time!

As for moisturising but not causing spots, try using an oil free moisturiser. I use this http://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Nivea-Visage-Daily-Essentials-Oil-Free-Moisturising-Day-Cream/59904011?from=search&tags=%7C20000&param=Oil+free&parentContainer=SEARCHOil+free_SHELFVIEW (Nivea Visage oil free moisturising day cream) and it is really good, nice and smooth but not remotely oily or sticky.

I have woken up this morning not feeling sick.....and am really worried! Doh!

It is still really early to feel sick on a regular basis - look at Kate Middleton - all good one day and then in hospital the next as the hormones grow in strength x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

daisiegg-I was exactly the same. I felt awful when I had bad nausea but worried when I had a few days break from it! I usually found that I would feel ok when I woke up but it would get progressively worse as the day goes on.
