Apologies Pington, it completely slipped my mind that you were having twins so the screening would be different, my bad, sorry.

Glad you finally got seen aunt pickle and possibly twins?! There's obv something in the water!! Hope the EPU come back to you soon.

As for me, nothing to report, counting down the days to my scan, one week today, seems forever away!!

Looking forward to seeing you all on the next thread soon, especially my twin buddies! It's much more quiet over there :(
  • Hi all, is anyone else getting a lot of cramps ? I don't remember this from DD1 and after a m/c in April I'm fretting a lot more about everything this time. They are not particularly painful, just uncomfortable and twingy. I'm currently around 5 weeks so I'm hoping that it's just everything settling in properly and hopefully holding on tight so that it will stay put this time!

Yes, I had a lot of cramps and bloating around 4-8 weeks but less often now. odd twinges quite often too but also less now. I was lead to believe that as long as not too painful these were normal.
  • Morning all :)

Pington - I don't know when to join the next thread, I have my 12 week scan on Monday but at 11+4 so I might not be allowed on the next thread til Thursday next week at least ;)

Aunty pickle - didn't I suggest you might be having twins a few pages back?! Ooo I might be psychic ;) hope you get a scan soon, not knowing would drive me crazy too!

As for me, it's the first day of my four day weekend as I'm only working three days a week at the mo. It's good for the tiredness but not so good for my bank balance. I've got a bit of an awkward situation at work - there's a position becoming available that would basically be a promotion for me so I'd like to apply but I'm obviously pregnant and my boss knows I am so do I apply? It's a job I've been doing for the last 9/10 months kind of as maternity cover so I know and they know I can do it and I enjoy it, but hopefully I'll be going on maternity leave in a few months so they'd have to recruit again and I just feel bad about that! What would you ladies do? I might post on the employment board but it looks a bit scary over there :)

Anyways, I'm just waiting for my food shopping to be delivered then I'm going to be a good housewife and get on with the ironing and washing up etc. Hope you all have a lovely weekend x

  • I would be interested to find out how much you all have to pay for your NHS scan pictures. Like everything I suppose its a postcode lottery! My letter said to bring 5 x £1 coins per photo we wanted - turns out that the sonographer prints them out and then you just feed the money in a machine that prints you out a tiny receipt. I say tiny, its about a quarter the size of a postage stamp :p Our sonographer was lovely and printed out 3 photos and told us just to get one token, so it was buy one get two free :) That may have been because its still early and so it's not the clearest of pictures, and I suppose that changes depending on who scans you, but if the corridor was empty you could just as easily walk off without paying :o How does it work in your hospitals?

Hi Missy Moo, at my hospital you have to pay for them before you get them. There's a machine in the waiting area and they're £3 each and you can pay for up to four. The machine gives you a receipt you take into the scanning room to give to the sonographer. I don't think that they're really strict about it though as I remember last time at my 12 week scan they said as the pictures were pretty bad (awkward baby!) I could have them for free and take the receipt to my 20 week scan. Also the EPU and consultant always give me pics for free.

Thanks as always for doing the lists :) x

    Morning all :)

Tilly - Definitely apply for it! You wont be on Maternity Leave until March and then I assume you are planning coming back after your Mat leave? Think of the extra money between now and going off.

Don't just take my word for it, read 'Lean In' by Sheryl Sandberg - the CEO of Facebook (be extra MSE and get it from the library like I did) She firmly believes that us ladies hold ourselves back from applying for promotions and role because we know will need maternity leave etc. Yet it is a false economy for employer not to encourage women to progress as we are very loyal and valuable assets to a company and a woman who feels valued and loves her job is far more likely to return after mat leave than someone who feels 'overlooked'

AFM - I am not planning on going over the next thread until after my 2nd scan which I will be 12wk6days at... if that is ok with you all???
  • Tilly - Im in the same position.

Before I was pregnant, I was (secretly) approached by a different department head and asked if I was interested in a new position he was creating that he thought would be great for me. It would be a promotion. I said I would be interested and left it at that waiting for the new job position to be advertised internally. There have been delays and he kept telling me to hold on and it wont be long now.

Well, I found our today they are advertising for the role next week. I haven't told anyone im pregnant and didn't have plans to for at least another 4-6 weeks.

I cant decide whether to let the department head know in secret before applying or not saying anything unless I get through to an interview (which is 99% likely). I know he is very keen for me to have this job but it would probably really upset my new team if I lie about being pregnant until I get the job then announce im off in March.

Tilly, I think you should apply definitely, they already know your pregnant and there can be no harm in applying. especially if your already doing the work.

Not sure whether to take my own advice or not! and when to tell them!

Milly - I will say the same to you! In my workplace a colleague accepted a promotion and then 4 weeks later announced she was pregnant with twins! I few people whispered and made a few comments, which I was livid about! Why shouldn't we go for these opportunities? It is like the dark ages, we are conditioned to 'know our place' At the end of the day, your employer needs to cover your role when you are on mat leave, so whether it is your current role or your potential new role, it shouldn't make any difference.

Good luck with what you decide, but don't let the only reason you are not applying be that you are pregnant.

  • So I've just been contacted by the hospital to inform me that I have a dating scan on Tuesday 23rd September at 9.10am. I'm not sure if this is with the EPU or not because I will only be 10+3 which I would have thought is too soon for a conventional 12 week one?
The other thing I'm worried about is that it's early morning! I will struggle to drink anything by that time let alone enough for a decent picture!!!!

Oh well, the Midwife on Tuesday will hopefully know more about it.
