  • Oops sorry forgot I was going to say hi and welcome to Trixsie too! Saw in your signature you're getting married in January - all being well you should have quite a bump by then, might need to think about your dress! Hope you get on ok at the doctors :)

    Hi Gleeful

I had a scan this time at 5weeks 5days and all they could see were
the sacks. I had to go back 2weeks later to see the body and heartbeats. These were both on NHS.
If you are paying for it - I would wait until at least 6weeks or more. The heartbeats aren't always visible until 6.5weeks sometimes.
Plus if you don't see the heartbeats (even though you know it's normal) it can get you very upset and worried (or maybe that's just me).
Honestly at 5weeks it can just look like an empty sac.
Also, private do internal as well as external.

I'm in London so can't help you with a local centre.
  • Hi all, update for, you. Doctor confirmed pregnancy yay:) now, just need to get an appointment to see midwife and get a scan so we know how far along I am :) yeah I'd already got my dress and it's very very fitted so I've gotta sell that once we get past first trimester and buy a maternity one, will prob be about 7 months by the time we get married :) as long as baby comes healthy I'm not bothered about what I wear to get married in :) xxx

Is anyone else starving all the time?! I can't stop thinking about food :o I did give up smoking (was only on a few a day anyway) when I found out I was pregnant, so maybe that's something to do with it, but I really feel like I could eat a full meal every hour! Obviously I don't want to put on a ridiculous amount of weight so I'm trying to control myself, but I hope this gets better...

I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to have my first scan, but can the MW hear a heartbeat from 7-8 weeks with the doppler thing? I really need to make a doctor's appointment soon, it's weird telling the family without even having gone yet.

Also, for those of you who have other children, when do you plan to tell them?

  • Welcome Trixsie, exciting times for you with a baby and a wedding coming up!!

Fabulous news Carrot and Princess Kate, glad all is well with you both :)

When I had a private scan with ds, they advised they probably wouldn't be able to detect a heartbeat with an ultrasound before 7 weeks but they were able to do an internal examination, which tbh I wasn't keen in! Luckily I was over 7 weeks and we could see bubs on the scan :)

Gayleygoo, we're planning to tell ds (2.5) after the scan purely because he doesn't understand the concept of a secret yet and would most probably tell everyone he came across!!

As for me, had a rough few days :( I've had bright pink blood on the tissue after I've been to the toilet and wiped (sorry for tmi!) for a couple of days and then had quite severe cramping yesterday. Went to out of hours last night and they said I have a slight urine infection so have some anti-b's. No blood this morning and the cramping has calmed down but I'm scared :( had to tell mil and fil last night as they watched ds while we were at docs and they've very generously got ds this morning while OH is at work so I can get some rest. Really hoping its nothing but I can't gel but think the worst :(

MW's aren't typically allowed to use a doppler until 16 weeks. Keep in mind that the heart is about the size of the head of a pin at 7-8 weeks, possibly a teeny bit bigger, so finding something that tiny is extremely difficult! They may be able to see it on an internal ultrasound, but 12 weeks is the typical time for a first scan, unless there are problems, baby was conceived via ivf, or you don't know how far along you are. It's extremely difficult to wait, but if you can, it's so worth it! If you want to go with a private scan, wait until at least 7-8 weeks, but the longer you wait, the more you'll be able to see. :)

  • Hugs Always. Hopefully they caught the infection early and antibiotics will treat it and nothing will happen to baby. Try to see it as a good sign that the bleeding has stopped. Have you got a scan or anything coming up soon to put your mind at ease and look forward to?
  • hi gayleygoo, starving? I wish!!!! :rotfl: it's the opposite with me, really struggling to eat and drink. trying to just sip cold drinks as much as possible to at least keep fluids up. OH has just brought me cheese on toast (which is what I asked for!) and has had to take it away again before I was sick (sorry TMI!!!). Haven't lost as much weight as last week though :T

I've had a bit of spotting too but only slight when I wipe after a wee. Hoping it doesn't get any more.

  • Thanks missymoo, got my booking in appointment on Thursday when I'll be 10 weeks so scan 2 weeks after hopefully. OOH doc told me to get to my GP on Tuesday morning as she thinks they'll need to send a sample to the lab so fingers x'd I can get an appointment
  • Morning (well afternoon really but it is the weekend!) ladies!

Gayleygoo - I'm hungry all the time too! And I've not got giving up smoking as an excuse either (as in I didn't smoke in the first place, not as in I'm still smoking!). No morning sickness, sore boobs or over tiredness for me yet, just hunger and I'm getting spots :o

Hugs Always Alone. At least they've found a reason for it and it isn't baby related so fingers crossed it stops now. I'd take it easy though, get your OH to look after everything!

AFM I had my scan date letter in the post this morning and it's Monday 15th September. So the countdown is on to three weeks on Monday. I'll be 11 and a half weeks then but baby was four days ahead earlier this week so fingers crossed he/she will be big enough. It says 'consultant: obstetrician' on the letter but doesn't name anyone so I don't know if that means we will see the consultant I saw through my last pregnancy or not. Do other ladies letters say that? Our consultant scans were always on a Monday so hopefully it does.

I was thinking could do with updating our list. I'm happy to give it a go but will probably be tomorrow evening before I can get on my laptop to do it (on my phone now). If anyone wants to do it before then please feel free! Perhaps any new people that want adding could post with their due dates if know and anyone any new scan dates could shout up too and I'll look at tomorrow. Thank you :)

Hope you all have a lovely relaxing long weekend x
