Carrot I hope all is well with you and you're taking it easy.

I'm barely 6 weeks pregnant and I've told a few people already :o friends who immediately noticed I'd stopped drinking and smoking, and then I told SIL because she lives next door and I just couldn't keep it from her! (Just as well really, as reminded me my dentist appointment would be free this morning). At the weekend, we'll probably tell the grandparents and after that we'll just tell people as we see them, if we're close enough to them.

A neighbour was talking to me about babies for ages yesterday, kept asking if I would be planning "number 3" soon - it almost felt like I was lying to her just to say "well, maybe, we'll see how it goes...."!

It looks like quite a few people have told close family and friends. Makes me wonder if im being too anal about not telling anyone until 12 weeks. My BIL is moving the Paris for 2 years next weekend and we are meeting up for a going away lunch. He and my OH are VERY close and I wonder if we should tell him before he leaves. But then again, I would feel bad at telling him and not our parents. And its not like we aren't going to talk often with him. we can just tell him on the phone.

I think it's a really personal decision, so do whatever feels right for you and your OH. Apparently the 12 week milestone arose from findings years ago that the rate of miscarriage drops significantly at that point (80% of miscarriages occur in the first trimester) and continues to drop week by week, whereas I read online and in a book that once a heartbeat is seen on an ultrasound as early as 7 weeks the risk of a miscarriage drops significantly. Of course we sadly know that they can and do happen in all stages of pregnancy, and there is so much conflicting information out there. In the end it's your decision and there is no right or wrong answer if it feels right for you :)
  • Hi everyone, I hope it's ok to join. We have been trying for around 6 months and thought we'd had no luck. Had no period since April and many negative tests plus a negative blood test at doctors 2 weeks ago but had a positive today :) so excited and a little bit scared too. Have a doctors appointment tomorrow that was originally to get the results of my last blood test so just hoping and praying that this test wasn't wrong. Xxx

    Hi ladies. Just an update.

Decided that I would (partially) take your advice and opted for a private scan this evening for the sake of my mental health.

Both babies are absolutely fine - growing well. Heart beats of 171 and 177.
Sonographer couldn't find any reason for bleeding so said to not worry as long as it didn't get heavy.

She also said the possible reason for the loss of pregnancy symptom (breast tenderness) is because between 8.5-9 weeks the placenta starts the process of taking over, so the hormones reduce. She said it is unfortunate but it does change suddenly which can make women very anxious.

It was really lovely as she was the same sonographer who we saw on the last pregnancy who found the missed miscarriage. She was really delighted to see us again with good news.

Thanks for all your support ladies. I will try and relax for next few weeks/months (if I can). Although I know it was extravagant to have the scan - I'm so glad we did.

    Welcome Trixsie!
