Good luck Tink - will be thinking of you.
Tia - thanks for your kind thoughts - had a tiny bit more spotting on Sat and Sun but absolutely minimal so I'm less worried now. Have got a GP appt tomorrow pm so will tell her about it then.Married Sept '09, Me - 38, OH - 40, TTC since Nov '12

Just delurking from the next thread up
My first mw appt was at a children's centre too. I still have no idea why as the others are all at the GP surgery! Maybe it is just designed to scare pregnant ladies as first of all I couldn't find the place, then I couldn't figure out where to go to see the mw, there were no signs, no one on reception to ask and the place was just full of really confident mummies and babies striding around seeming to know exactly what they were doing while little me skulked in the corner panicking about not knowing where to go! However I am sure that will not happen to you...not least because you are probably not as much of a wuss as me!
Anyway - first appointment. They will take your blood pressure, test your urine and weigh you to work out your BMI. They will go through lots of paperwork with you with things like medical history and different questions. They will need to know the date of your last period and how long your cycles usually are to work out your estimated due date (though this can change at the 12 week scan). They will work out if you are a low or high risk pregnancy, which will determine the care you get throughout pregnancy. They should discuss the screenings that are offered at the 12 week scan and give you some leaflets on these so you can decide whether you want the screening. Mine also talked a lot about breastfeeding. They should send you for blood tests too so they will probably give you a form for this and instructions on where to go etc. I think that was everything! Be prepared for it to be quite a long appointment. I think mine took about an hour. And it is worth familiarising yourself a tiny but with your family's medical history. Nothing too detailed but things like heart problems, diabetes etc.
Good luck!0 -
Oh, forgot to add, make sure they give you the form to send off for free prescriptions and dental care. They will also give you absolutely loads of different leaflets etc most of which are just advertising cr*p - but make sure to sift out the voucher for your free Bounty pack which you can pick up from shops like Boots, and there should be an Emma's diary one too which is similar. We all love free stuff!0
