I only ever did home births and every midwife is trained to the hilt and carry all medicines and equipment needed. They update every year.

We would very carefully screen a home birth lady and only consider those that are totally low risk - that means lady with high bmi, anaemia, complications like bleeding etc would be excluded.

Risk are very low in comparison to hospital birth as you are guaranteed one-one care and can adopt more natural positions. I have had to resus a babe once but it was successful as all midwives are trained in all techniques for mum and babe.

All my home births were magical and i was very privileged.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

That sounds lovely :) the study I linked to on the NHS website though did not seem to suggest that risks are low in comparison to a hospital birth. I guess it was just one study though.

TMI alert - I've had what's known as a lazy bowel since birth. It essentially means I only go to the toilet around every 5 days, so feelings of constipation and bloating are the norm for me. Teacake, try cutting down/out cheese and carbs like bread and pasta. Also drink more water, not caffeinated drinks, if they are hard to pass.

Last night I vomited because I attempted to clean my teeth for the recommended 2 minutes. Which meant I then had to clean my teeth again - the joys of pregnancy and a good gag reflex.

I think I have the opposite of a lazy bowel. Is that a thing? Lol. Anyway, I have yet to experience any sort of constipation - all the opposite if I am honest! I have pretty much never really had constipation in my entire life so I will be interested to see if I get it later in the pregnancy...

As for bloating, I have been taking Gas-X which is American and amazing (and suitable in pregnancy) but Wind-eze has the same active ingredient so when my box from America runs out I will be moving to that. It is really good and does relieve the bloating (though be prepared for it to come out via some VERY impressive pumps...)

hello, had my scan today, walked in 12 +2 weeks pregnant and walked out 13 +1 weeks! seems really strange that they've increased me by such a big amount. Means my due date is now 22nd Sept. Which is going to be even worse for me workwise and with my new job's deadlines. Oh well, have to face the music tomorrow and break the news, should be good for a laugh lol.
I've been suffering terribly with constipation but can't have anything which swells in my stomach because of surgery I've had. I put a couple of spoons of benefiber in my morning drink, used to solve the issue all the time but it's been much worse of late but I know I haven't been drinking enough.
Can't believe I'm saying this but hubby and I went for a mooch around Mothercare after the scan today and ended up buying a travel system. Feels a bit soon but should have been well over £500 and was £275 so I didn't feel it could be missed, plus it seems really good. We can change it if we change our mind which really sold me on it.
Overall seems to have been a surreal day today, huge purchase and gained an extra week of pregnancy - it's all getting to be a bit real.
Oh forgot to mention (bloomin baby brain) the scan was ok, but didn't get a great picky and also they weren't able to do the nuchal scan so now have to have the quad test in the next couple of weeks. Also have to start testing my sugars 4 times a day from week 16 because I can no longer do a glucose tolerance test.

Daisie, I think the opposite would be constant diarrhea.

Last night I showed Mr P a website that shows how sweet pea has been changing this week. It's mainly me that reads the websites showing the day by day changes and I normally tell him the main changes. I want him to feel more involved.

Lemon, you never know, at your 20 weeks scan it might change again. Also, don't worry about work. There's nothing you can do about it.

thanks Peonie, all seems so fluid, stupidly my head needs it to be fixed so I know what I'm telling work, and know that it won't move. I have such a huge deadline at work, being 30th Sept, and the 28th was touch and go but now the 22nd is just mad, but hey it can't be helped, date wise it certainly wasn't planned that's just mother nature at work
