It is quiet cos I was at work for once lol!

Sausagemeat in sausage rolls is completely cooked :)

Knackered and starving hungry but no idea what I want, really annoying. Everything I can think of to eat makes me go 'eww'. But so hungry I feel sick!
  • New symptom (not fun at all- would much rather have my vomitting back- that I could deal with quite easily) bloating and constipation. To the point that I look like I'm about 5 months and am in agony! Anyone have this with any advice on what I can/ can't do. I'd usually take a buscopan for the horrid crampy feeling and some laxatives but no idea if this is allowed. Daren't ask the gestapo pharmacist in local boots as he definitely won't sell me anything but feel it's stupid to bother GP with. Am almost doubled over with the pain from it. Gonna blame poor exam performance on it too- reckon the uni will accept it as extenuating circumstances? :rotfl:

Sorry no solutions, although I feel your pain. I'm totally over being bloated all the time. I have some antacid tablets I take from time to time. I haven't even checked if they are ok!!

I'm not used to this process of checking everything just yet.

I've had a massive lunch. Stir fried rice with chicken and veggies, and probably far too much chilli sauce. I may pay for that later. Plus some little pork dumpling things. All very yummy, and very filling.

Truth is I'm really too tired to cook at night, so may as well have a good lunch. Only 2 more days until DH is back, and he can do some cooking again! He's been away for 2 weeks, and keeps sending me berating/worried messages when I admitted I had totally stopped making dinners since he has been away. I just want to get to sleep when I'm home.

In other news, the hospital called today to say that they forgot to get me to do a pre-op MRSA test. I had to take about 3 hours off work yesterday to go and get a blood test done, and now have to go back. Annoying, but what can I do. There is quite a bit of admin to prepare for next weeks operation really. I have agreed the time off with work, but I need a sick note, and I can't seem to get anyone to give me one! The hospital simply give me a letter saying I am having an operation on the 28th, and she seemed to say I should get the additional 'sick note' from my GP.

All too hard! Have I mentioned I just want to sleep!

    Hi Ladies

just delurking to offer constipation assistance to TCOD! There is in fact very little you can take for it in pregnancy but one thing you are allowed to have is fybogel it tastes awful but it does seem to help just enough to make things bearable so its worth a go!

    big hugs to all
  • Hi TCOD, I'll confess I have had terrible trapped wind and bloatedness. And when the wind comes...oh my eyes!!! (TMI!!!)

I've found that kneeling on all fours and rocking back and forth seems to help with the trapped wind, and have also been recommended peppermint cordial/peppermint tea. Seems to help a bit.

TCOD - how about a 'natural' remedy for the constipation like liquorice or prunes.

T2D - after my hip operation last August my surgeon wrote out my sick note and said if I needed another to see my own gp. Might be worth double checking with whoever is doing the surgery if they'll provide you with a sick note.

FA - no way could I do a homebirth especially as we're in a rental and I'd dread to think what could happen. I'm probably going to be under consultant care due to my neurological condition but I'll definitely be hoping to be able to have a water birth.

AFM worried as my symptoms aren't as bad today. We can't win can we hate the symptoms when we have them then hate when we don't have them, bring on the 22 April for my scan. Also rang up about my two midwife appointments next week and apparently it's right, the first one to go through things and give me paperwork then the next one to go through the paperwork and cover anything else. Ah well like I said any time out of the office is fine by me lol.

No way, I would not even contemplate it. I know how quickly things can go wrong in a previously completely normal labour and no way would I risk myself or the baby by not being in a place where medical assistance is readily available if required. My sister is a junior doctor and during her obs and gynae rotation she saw lots of labours going wrong (she would - because doctors only get involved in the labours that don't go according to plan!) and she said she saw a number of situations where if the woman had been at home, and not able to get into theatre or whatever IMMEDIATELY, the outcome would have been tragic. Even if it is really, really unlikely that anything that serious could go wrong, I couldn't take the risk. Also....I don't want blood and gore all over my house lol. And I am rubbish with pain so chances are I will be begging for an epidural as well!

On the other hand I can see why a home birth would be appealing. Your own, relaxed environment, a midwife there just with you the whole time rather than going in and out and dealing with other people too, the ability to control your own surroundings, be comfortable, etc. Going straight to sleep in your own bed after giving birth rather than being in a horrible hospital room...yes I can see the appeal! I would do it in a heartbeat if a magical transporter existed that could get me to the hospital in an instant if something went wrong lol.

This is an interesting read http://www.nhs.uk/news/2011/11November/Pages/hospital-births-home-births-compared.aspx It looks as though the risks are pretty low anyway, but they are considerably higher for a first baby. Also, the statistic that for women on a first birth, 45% who started a home birth ended up at hospital anyway, makes me kind of think what's the point...I bet it is more stressful planning a home birth and ending up having to go to hospital than just planning to go to hospital in the first place.

Anyway, reading that does make it clear that it is still pretty safe to have a home birth. So I think if someone is comfortable about it it might be a good thing. For me, even if I know statistically the risks aren't too bad, I personally will feel more stressed and worried knowing that medical intervention is not just down the corridor if it is needed.

Wow, that turned into a big essay! Sorry :o anyway things I would ask would be what would be the procedure if you needed to be moved to hospital...who decides that (as in, if you suddenly change your mind can you ask to be moved to hospital even if there is no medical need, or on the other hand if the mw thinks you need to go can she effectively make you go even if you don't want to).....I would want to know about the practicalities (as I don't know anything about it!) like what do they provide and what do you provide, where would you actually give birth and how do you know there is not going to be blood and gore all over your house (lol)...what pain relief is available at home...are you absolutely guaranteed a home birth or is there a chance that you could phone up and they say there are not enough midwives and you have to go in anyway, which I bet would be horrid if you had planned a home birth...ummm.....that is all I can think of!
