I'm OK. Hormonal I think. I just watched diy SOS and had a proper cry at the end! Feeling better for it. :)

  • Phew - a lot happens in a week! I wrote a post last Friday and at the point of submitting out internet died. So too apparently did the phone. We saw a Virgin Media man out of the window but he scarpered before we could rugby tackle him to the ground and demand answers. Damn you first world problems. We eventually managed to report it (difficult with no phone or internet, especially as the online site kept claiming everything was fine). Spotting another Virgin man on Monday we stopped car and pushed me rolling out in front of his van for answers. Apparently a subcontractor had updated all the cables but disconnected everyone in our street on Friday. However, you still had to ring up and book engineers separately to come out and fix it. Lunacy. Finally got back online on Tuesday but still mostly focusing my attention on falling asleep in front of the TV.

I have cut and paste last week's post but not sure how much applies!

    'So sorry TOFT.

t2d - that is great news that they are linking up all your different needs.

I still work for the NHS and used to work in oncology (not anymore). As far as I could tell from the outside looking in at private clients and those I met coming through the NHS was that private appointments get you faster treatment but that once the NHS machine started up, it was good - it was getting it going. Also private appeared to be more reassuring as they would see you even if you didn't need necessarily need it. I had a patient who went to see a private doctor, he diagnosed cancer that day and booked my patient into his NHS clinic the next day so it can work really well. On the other hand, in my local area, one thing the NHS did better was it offered some time from a psychologist to support those having particular challenges. The private system didn't, those going through private actually missed out. Imagine it's different area to area, private provider to private provider.

Exciting scan news WTDN! I had my booking in appointment on Tuesday which all went well as I am in the fortunate position of not having any significant medical history or being pregnant before. They confirmed I am 7+3 which I guess makes me 7+5 today with a due date still of 13/10. Going to call on Monday to book a scan appointment. She didn't laugh at me and say I was mad which was a relief.

My mother texted me to ask how I was feeling last Thursday and I said usual - exhausted but otherwise fine. I then had a straight run of 5 days of nausea (boy, do I feel for those of you who have it all the time). My mother was over moon as apparently this means a healthy pregnancy! Is she right or nuts? She also told me that a buggy costs £650 so she's not exactly a reliable source of information...'

t2d - if C&W is the west London hospital, I used to work in that patch and have heard nothing other than praise for its skill and care in terms of medical management. If you have to be going through this, you are at least in good hands. With regards to the MRI - will the results be ready before your op? Do you think your surgeon knows about the MRI?

    Welcome ttc39 and alioops78!

Great news lollypop about your scan - what a relief.

I have my 12 week scan booked on 31/3. They do it on LMP. Still not convinced there really is anyone in there! Tiredness has lifted to an extent, nausea is minimal and my boobs have gone from being lumpy and unbearable to slightly sore, very solid and heavy! Very odd feeling. Not going to buy anything till April.

    :grouphug: to all!

Thanks for all that excellent information littemissreading - really helpful and reassuring. C&W is the west london hospital, so it's good to know it has a good reputation. I had my IVF there so that's why they referred me direct to ante-natal there. I live in West London so I just chose it a bit randomly. Seems I was lucky!

I agree that the NHS seems just a bit slow to get going, but now things have started it all feels easier. I am slowly accumulating all the right phone numbers, which seems to be the most difficult part.

As I understand it MRI results can be available immediately if they are bad. Seems to take 2 weeks to find out if they are ok. I've spoken to them today and they are referring it the head of department due to the pregnancy. I've said I would prefer to wait the required 8 weeks post op, rather than doing it the day before.

But having a good day otherwise. Feeling very tired and a few nice symptoms to keep me happy.
  • Glad it was useful. Direct numbers are the holy grail and well worth pursuing! I think both NHS and private require you to be on top of your own care. With such large organisations, you can't expect the left hand to know what the right hand does. I find it reassuring to be allowed to have my notes with me as this way I know what they contain and know they don't get lost.

It's surprisingly easy to write something down slightly wrong and then it snowballs. Male patient of mine had recorded on his file that he lives with another man. While this was accurate, it should have said that this man was his carer that he paid a wage to. As it was my patient understandably was aggrieved as he felt it caused him to sound as though he was gay and one of his illness was connected to certain lifestyle choices, so he started feeling judged for a lifestyle he didn't actually practise and of course the more he denied being gay, the more he was disbelieved!

Enjoy the good luck and I say here's to a good day today  (arr! why am I torturing myself with thoughts of alcohol...)

Had my scan this morning, and all looks fine :) Dated as 12+6 - exactly the same as my dates. I had sugary cereal for breakfast to make baby give some wiggles, and the sonographer commented on how much of a fidget it was! Maybe I overdid the sugar...

DH missed the midwife appointment afterwards as we'd run out of car parking money, as the wait after the scan took so long. I had to see the consultant too, who advised me to have a hospital birth but I will be ignoring her :) The benefits of avoiding hospital (where I feel very uncomfortable and probably won't labour well) far outweigh the tiny extra risk of being at home. The community midwife was happy for me to stay home too.

I shall head over the the next thread (with the occasional lurk on here) so wish you all the best and see you on the next thread soon x
  • Yay good stuff Bluebell! I didn't know about eating sugar. I shall have nutella.

Daisiegg - think it was you talking about main and pudding breakfast but I had marmite crumpet followed by Nutella crumpet. Does that count? Nom nom nom

  • Does anyone else have a ridiculous sense of smell? I can smell far more acutely than usual. Causing mild annoyance.
