I was not the person with the three course breakfast lilmissreading...though the way I am eating at the moment I am not surprised you thought it was me! :rotfl: :o

Had my proper booking in appointment today and got my scan date - the 21st at 9am. I saw three (!) midwives. One was being trained which is fair enough but I am not sure why there were two others! It was slightly overwhelming. Then went for blood tests which I hate as I have really difficult deep veins. It was ok though.

Everything seemed ok at the mw appt, still being classed as low risk, etc. They were really nice though they did say it is unlikely I will ever see the same midwife twice, so I won't have 'my' midwife or anything. It is also a slightly odd situation because I life on the cusp of two counties so the midwife service and community care comes from the county I live in, but the hospital where I will go for scans and where I will deliver is in a different county. So it is all slightly disjointed/disorganised. Think it will be ok though.

Saw my grandparents today and the first thing my lovely tactful grandma said was 'oh gosh you are gaining weight'! :(

My grandad kept talking about names. Some of the blinders he suggested included Xena (though he had not heard of the warrior princess...), Sheila, Wanda and....wait for it....Gussy.

    Words fail me....!

Does anyone else have a ridiculous sense of smell? I can smell far more acutely than usual. Causing mild annoyance.

Oh yes! Very strong. Also a horrid taste in my mouth a lot of the time. Yuk.
  • Ooops sorry! Still it's good advice...

V jealous you get yours 10 days before mine. V keen for external validation beyond symptoms and two pregnancy tests to know there's someone in there!

    Gussy?!

I was given a named midwife but they work 12 hour days so only does 3 days a week full time.

Glad it all went well considering. I loathe needles but have got much better than I used to be.

I can't believe you are talking names already! I think DH and I are still too worried about tempting fate to even think about it. Plus I suspect we both know it is prime territory for a major fight...

I know what you mean about the smell! I walk into every room and think 'whoa... who's been eating fish and chips, or curry, or whatever'. Even walking down the street it's like I can smell the cooking in every shop. And don't get me started on afternoon tube rides.

It's not like how I expected it though. Not like I hate all the smells, just that the world is full of much more of them than I thought. Must be what a dogs life is like! Food cravings are also not like i thought they would be. I thought I would be waking up at 3am forcing DH to go get icecream and pickles, but its more like I find myself being drawn to things more than usual. Mostly carby things!! I loved a warm salad for dinner before, but now everything has to have some heavy carbs.

I see many many many kgs in my future...

Oh - actually you distracted me! I meant to say that I have done something a bit silly though and bought myself a doppler thing. I know it probably won't hear anything for a few weeks at least, but that most likely won't stop me trying to find the heartbeat on the weekend.

I'm hoping that later on it will stop some of the stress I get between scans. Has anyone used one?
  • Yes exactly! There are maybe 2 smells that bother me and have to be removed - husband is fond of pickled onions and they now smell like smelly feet that have been farted on. The other is a chilli sauce I use as a dip for chips. I can eat it ok but can't stand the smell. Otherwise it's just noticing smells much more and being surprised. I also now can't mention/talk about/look at/let alone eat the middle eastern chickpea dip beginning with 'h'. When I told my mother this she wanted to go into great detail why and I had to ask her to stop!

Yes also to carbs. I used to have smoothie for breakfast but now it's all about crumpets, toast, muffins, cheese on toast and even crisps for breakfast this morning - new favourite of quadruple option - two different sensation flavours, onion rings and frazzles/bacon fries. Not the whole bags but a few (ok, quite a few) from the different packets in a bowl.

Having only eaten breaded things when out in a pub, I now have a freezer stuffed full of breaded scampi and other assorted delights, chips, onion rings and a failed hunt for findus crispy cheese pancakes in my local tesco was quite disappointing. Used to have loads of salads and veg - not that I don't like them but can't quite be bothered.

We discussed names before we were even ttc. Completely off the table now though.

We have recently re-done our house and getting lodgers in. MIL reckons they won't be bothered I'm pregnant and will stay as 'men don't understand that babies cry.' Deluded. We just need 2 for 6 months to pay off the kitchen! Just from April to October.

We've been discussing names since before even TTC! :) we have a very short short list. And rest assured...Gussy is NOT included!

I am not planning to get a Doppler because I think it would just be something to stress me out further if I couldn't find the heartbeat, but I have heard lots of people say good things about them. :)

Sooooo tired today. And my temperature is all over the place! At work this morning I was so hot I felt like I could pass out. Now I am shivering even though it is 15 degrees outside AND I have the heating on and lots of layers. It is so odd. And when I get cold my nipples hurt so much it is agony :o

I think I have relaxed so much since the scan at 8 weeks. I am almost worried that I am too relaxed and I won't be prepared anymore if something bad happens. And I know despite the scan there is still a chance of things going wrong. I think I need to unrelax a bit so I am mentally prepared for the worst!
  • daisiegg - devil's advocate: what difference would being prepared make?

Watch out the ocado man doesn't come a knocking...:rotfl:

Has anyone decided on whether they are having the NT scan or not?

I'm really unsure as if I did go for it and then be told I'm high risk then I wouldn't have the CVS due to the risk of miscarriage. My lack of decision making is driving me mental. Xx
