  • Carbs are my friend at the moment. That and bland food. I haven't been able to stomach perfume or aftershave for weeks- they all seem to smell slightly of cat wee! :/

Peonie- hello @ your foetus. :) I was going out of my mind with cramps the other day. Rang mw and then emergency room and they just told me to calm down and have some paracetamol. Every little twinge makes me paranoid at the moment! 12 week scan is on Monday and feels weird to be going to that hospital for something that isn't seeing M or being told more rubbish news! I can't wait though. My MIL is a mw there so hopefully she won't be on shift when labour happens ;) i have to give birth in hospital but i've heard that the MLU is lovely and newly refurbed with all sorts of lovely things so hopefully it won't be too terrible compared to the home birth I always wanted.

I will be getting the NT and I also would get the further testing if high risk came back. I know full well I'd torture myself with worst case scenarios if i didn't and having read Oster and seeing the current risk data on CVS and amnio I think for peace of mind, knowledge and choice it would be a low risk I would be willing to take. Obviously that's just me though. It's definitely worth thinking about what you would do with the information though. If you come back high risk would you have further testing? Would you continue the pregnancy etc. if the answer is that you wouldn't have further testing/ would carry the pregnancy on regardless then the NT test may just cause you needless anxiety. Thats's what I think anyway. :)

Btw, I was the one with a two course brekkie. :)

DanielleNic-I didn't have the NT testing, but we did have the 20 week fetal anomaly scan. We didn't want to know about downs etc as it wouldn't have changed our minds about having her, but felt that anything picked up at the scan may have required very quick medical intervention, such as cleft, and we would want the staff to be prepared for anything medical. Hope that makes sense and isn't too rambly.
Hope all you less than 12 weeks ladies are well :)

I did the same thing for same reasons.

We got the neck fluid measurement but didn't do the blood tests and get a full result. There was no way I'd do further testing & risk another miscarriage on a potentially healthy baby so when I told the midwife this she advised against doing it as a high risk number would just cause worry about something we had no conclusive answer on. Just depends how you feel about it really. We didn't even make up our minds until we were in the room and then I changed my mind again! Hence why we got the measurement but not the bloods. Which actually was the best compromise for us.

The 20 week scan was important though as it can pick up things that might need treating immediately after birth.

I would not have the test that risks MC but I would have the other tests.

I'm doing the harmony test next week so I'll let you know how it goes. The surgeon wants us to know before the operation at 12 weeks so we decided to do it early. But we haven't decided what to do if the risk is high...

If you don't mind me asking, are you paying for that test? I briefly looked into it but can't see it for less than £600. As we would not terminate a pregnancy no matter the results it just seemed too much money for us.

I didn't do the downs testing this pregnancy(not nuchal test in wales but triple test). - I came back as high risk on last pregnancy, didn't have an amnio (because of miscarriage risk) and to be honest it ruined the pregnancy! Even as she came out - I was wondering "Does she have downs" (would have loved her whatever but it was the what ifs...). Make sure you think through what you will do with the knowledge of a high risk result - I didn't!! :) I have moments this pregnancy, especially as Im older, wondering - but its not the obsessive worry of my last pregnancy.
Hope you are all doing great ! :)

We are paying £400. Annoyingly it is about to be offered at my hospital. It was meant to be in place ready but some admin/red tape issue has delayed it. They said its likely to be offered in a 'few weeks' but thats too late for us.

We are fortunate to be able to afford it so didn't worry. We have money set aside for 1 more IVF so we are lucky to have available funds.

My husband did all the booking for it, and said it was much easier to find someone to talk to when you are paying them!

Ooh I wonder if I look further I'd find it a bit cheaper than £600.

We could afford the £600 but just not sure if it is worth it for us.

Thinking maybe will have the nuchal scan and only then if it comes back with a higher risk go for a harmony test? Maybe that is a good solution for us.

    Argh! So many decisions!

Here is where we are going. At the bottom of that page you can see the combined test cost. Including CVS if needed.

Ooh thank you. Wonder why it is cheaper to get the harmony test at 10 weeks than after that? I am past 10 weeks now. And I see it still includes CVS or the amnio test....I thought the point of the harmony test was to avoid those?

Sorry, not expecting you to answer these questions - just musing out loud! :o
