Less than 12 weeks pregnant club! Part 4!!

I'm with you both on not buying new things, I'm not precious about new stuff at all. I'm the first of my friends to have a baby and this will be the first in our family since my brothers were born (the youngest is 22...) so sadly I know that I won't get any cast offs. The only things I'm thinking I will buy new are a cot mattress. I keep seeing that you're not supposed to have second hand car seats so I'll probably buy one of those new too as I don't have someone who'll give me one who can guarantee it's accident free! But then the freakonomics guy says that baby seats are pretty rubbish regardless before they hit 2 years old... argh, so much conflicting information!...
OH and I have decided that we'll each buy one cheap item of baby wear after 12 week scan as a gift. He reckons we should start getting things together now from charity shops and nearly new sales. I'm kind of in agreement with him as what if this goes horribly wrong and it's the ONLY chance I have of enjoying being pregnant. At the same time the rational part of my head is saying 'imagine having to get rid of it all if the shiz hits the fan'... That cot *is* a bargain though... lol.
On a slightly different note *ahem* for pelvic floor exercises has anyone (lurkers and 12 weekers alike) used kegel ball type things? I hate doing standard kegels- as I'm lazy and they make me look like a frightened chicken... OH always knows when I'm doing them. Lol.0 -
TCD I have some cracking images in my head of frightened chickens now!
I too don't get the whole buy new stuff. we used a really old mamas and papas pram for DC1 and I'm so glad we did. it was free, did us fine and gave us time to work out what we actually needed from a buggy. We ended up with an Outnabout nipper which I don't think I'd have looked at from day 1.
Dasiegg How on earth did you explain that to the Ocado guy!
I met my NCT group today. Babies are 13 months now and we all still meet once a week. I was desperate to tell them but I didn't as we were in a really busy caf. I can't decide whether to share it with them on our secret FB group. They know we were trying. We've told both sets of parents (we work in family business' so if all goes well being pregnant has massive practical implications for them) and I'm just dying to share it with someone else!0 -

It depends on your hospital. Most do it on size of the foetus at the 12 week scan, based on the fact that growth is pretty standard at that stage. But yes if your baby is big they could say its due, before it really is if you see what I mean?!
However my hospital goes by LMP, and only changes the day if you are 7 or more days out. As they say babies comes when they want so its pointless to change it by a day or so. The midwife also told me even at that age they can very slightly vary by size, so lmp is more reliable.
However this only works for people who have a 28 day cycle - so if youre like me who doesnt have that, and goes to a hospital like that, my dates are 6 days behind theirs. But most hospitals dont seem to operate this way from what I can see on reading these boards and its all based on size x
My hospital must do it from the scan as my midwife put in my notes that the EDD will be determined at the scan and made no note or mention of LMP date.
Can't wait to find out one way or the other0 -
Hello, I've been AWOL for a couple of days. Having early nights mainly. My cold is finally going so I'm actually awake during the day.
In the last couple of end of season sales I've bought baby/toddler clothes so I have a cheaper present in for when I need one. I still have a few clothes that I could use if the baby is the right sex and if they've not been gifted. My sister gave me a lot of her things about 2 years ago, like: moses basket, play gym, baby bath, bouncer. I'd hope my friends give me some of their used baby items like clothes but I know of one who is already starting to sell on ebay :-( I'm happy to get a second hand cot but will get a new mattress. If we only get one new thing it would be a pram/pushchair combo and my parents have already said they will pay for it. I like to sew so I plan to make a blanket, cot mobile and sleeping bag.
TooOld, I'm sorry about your MC. I don't know if you are still reading here but I hope you will see a specialist and you'll be given some medication that will help in the future. Have you heard of an endometrial scratch?
T2D, I was happy to read the NHS is sorting you out. And we're back on track date wise again. I did not know embie grew 1mm a day. Everyone I know has their newborn in with them in their first few months and a moses basket is fine when the baby is tiny.
TeaCake, can you PM me the details of the £39 scan. As we were under the same clinic I'm guessing our local town is the same one. It's not my local hospital so I've finished going there

You've just reminded me - when my sister was having her first I started cross stitching a big blanket thingy - she found out about it at her baby shower when I told her to be careful not to sit on the needle as it was covering a chair I'd borrowed from her house. Until I said that she thought it was something I had bought!
Anyway, couldn't finish it until after he was born and I knew his name. He got is when he was 5 months old!
I'm off to hunt a kit to buy and do for my own bambino (due to a family fall out of which there always seems to be many I'm not likely to get one in return!) - something to help keep me occupied at night and the head and hands busy to keep me out of the biscuit drawer!!!No longer ...tobe! I seriously love that advert. It's the only one I won't fast forward through.
I've pm'd the details to you Peonie. Think i'll be joining you and sewing blankets etc. I can't find any shop bought ones I like, they all seem to be too gender orientated (which is a pet hate of mine anyway) and it gives me an excuse to use my poor forgotten sewing machine!0 -
