A friend of mine (with two kids) posted this blog on my Facebook today, 'the truth about maternity leave'. I thought it was a good read so am sharing: http://gasandairblog.com/2014/01/15/the-truth-about-maternity-leave/
Some sound advice there I think!fran-o0 -
Answer machine message that I have just picked up which came through at 6:53 saying I need to call the Drs and quote AO what on earth does that stand for. Called but it's closed now......wonder if my bloods have shown something, only had the test at half ten today!

Hey all, been looking at the asda event.. might pick up some more tommee tippee bottles, lots of nappies are sold out... also thinking of the Johnstons box but unsure as I myself am allergic to their wipes but I can use the other things ... I just like the idea of a box...
picked up some maternity pads instore.. glamourous.
Kind of getting there, my cot mattress and some nappies and wipes were delivered to my mums today, need to go get them tomorrow, although will leave cot mattress there as cot is also there awaiting nursery being decorated.0 -
Sorry SamToby have no idea what AO is? How frustrating that you wont be able to call them til tomorrow morning. I'm sure its nothing serious. Easier said than done but try not to worry - just get on the phone as soon as they open!!!
I had my 2nd class tonight - nothing major learnt tonight. Just went over the pain relief options (which I'd already had from my midwife) which actually just reinforced the kind of birth that I want. Then we just talked about relaxation techniques such as breathing and massage - quite basic stuff really!
Next week, we're looking at inductions, caesareans and anything thats not a straightforward birth - and we'll be discussing what to do with baby straight after labour. There was a mention of knitted boobs (again!) and also knitted nappies and poos!! It just gets more surreal!!!0 -

Isnt AO just a blood type?
Ugh hate that when theyre shut and you need to call back.
Seems odd that they would have tested it that quick at a gps, surely they would have had to have sent it to the hospital?
Maybe they just need more blood from you or something?0 -

Just to stop you worrying Sam, presuming that where you are works like it does around here then the most likely reason is that AO stands for antenatal outpatients and they're going to ask you to go back for more bloods as they've mislabeled them or put them in the wrong vial so the lab has refused them. Happened to me twice personally and is a fairly regular event round here - doesn't help that the voicemail we get asking us to get in touch is from the midwife who is in charge of managing 'risk' for patients with serious blood-borne illnesses / chromosomal abnormalities
Don't worry, I'm sure it's nothing more sinister than minor incompetence :rotfl:

Birdie do your friends know you want a baby shower? I didn't have one and we didn't throw one for my friend and her baby- not out of malice but she was the first of us to have a baby and none of us had ever been to a baby shower so it just didn't occur to us.
So I wouldn't be too hurt unless you've being dropping very heavy hints that you want one and maybe some clanging hints could be dropped now for a get together to the most organized friend lol
Yeah I guess in their defence they probably just haven't thought about it. I'm normally the one doing things like this for everyone else... just sucks that there isn't another me to do things like this for me!I have dropped hints but clearly not strong enough ones!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Arghhhh. (Sorry if tmi)
Needing the toilet to only get there (after a lot of huffing and puffing getting off sofa :rotfl:) for the tiniest bit of wee to trickle out. So annoying. I haven't had a decent wee all day but been at least 20 times, I'm fed up of looking at my bathroom door! Good job this baby is worth every little wee pit stop!Proud mummy to an amazing 8 year old!0
