Sorry you had a crap MW today TL, at least things got sorted after the mini panics!
What did you get from work Becca?Report back on how the class is, I'm still thinking about going to one tomorrow night. Apparently this first one is about early signs of labour.
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
faithhope - Yes its the RAH I have to go to now. It is a long drive from where I live so hopefully I won't have one of those really short dramatic labours:A Its go to hear you had a good experience there. Did you give birth at the CMU or the consultant led ward? They want to monitor my bloods sugars during labour but I hope I am still free to move around and not confined to a bed.
Becca - Aww did you get something nice? One of my customers made me a nappy cake. I got all teary cause it was so nice and unexpected.
Kerri - Well done of remaining so calm. What is the longest they will let you go overdue without intervening?
TL - It just shows how one mw who does things differently can mess up the measurements. I don't think I have seen the same mw more than once.
Good to know about the health visitors don't really want one just showing up at my door.0 -
I thought everyone had to have a cannula inserted? I am dreading it, I faint if I have a blood test and the cannula they put in is one of the biggest sizes.
They say it's policy throughout the UK to use a grey one (gulp!) as they can get more fluid through it in an emergency but I am a nurse and I know for a fact pink and green cannulas (much much smaller..) are more than adequate. Maybe I am just being a wimp?!
TL, I have bruises from my last midwife appt as she was struggling to feel the head.
I also have a letter saying the HV will be visiting me just before my due date. Problem is we are moving in the next few weeks, only around the corner but it's classed as a different area. I don't know whether to keep it incase we don't move in time or cancel it anyway. I think it's just to introduce themselves and maybe have a nosy at the house?
I have been having strange dreams too. Last night I dreamt that I gave birth (just popped out!) but I was on an operating table. They gave me the baby fully clothed, switched the lights off and left the room. I was woken by the anaesthetist who said he forgot to remove the placenta and sew me up, he needed to do it now before the midwife shouts at him! He was down there for ages and kept asking my husband to pass him random instruments, at one point they were both wearing 3D glasses (?!) Anyway, he showed me his handiwork in a mirror, like they do at the hairdressers and it was horrific. They both looked very pleased with themselves though, so I just said thank you very much, it looks lovely!! :rotfl:
I have finished packing my hospital bag, it suddenly feels very real now. Fingers crossed my dream wasn't a premonition!0 -
I hope I don't need a cannula because I want a water birth, plus when I had the bleeding my pulse was really high but thing is it's high anyway so doesn't take much to send it rocketing so they put one in & I remember the nurse getting this guy who must have been good at doing them to do it because she said pregnant ladies get the bigger sized ones so she wanted him to do it.so I will need to try to stay calm!!
Anyway he was great and put it on my arm so it didn't affect movement. But then when I was back in there the 2nd week the dr put it in my hand and because it's like right where your joints etc all move, and it's taped on, I basically couldn't move my left hand or it would really hurt.
So I had to eat, drink and get dressed, brush teeth etc all with one hand. Somehow I managed a pony tail, thank goodness I was only in the one night. A midwife flushed it out in the morning which hurt a bit too even though she was really trying not to.
So if you do have one ask them if they can put it in your arm!0 -
I'm going to ask not to have a cannula but doubt they wil agree. It's my one thing stopping me having a water birth
I got a baby bath, playmat that turns into a sit up chair & lots of lovely clothes bits! Really lovely
Will report back on the class laterFirst baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -
Just checking in
Today has been emotional for me, a colleague lost their unborn grandaughter recently ( I knew about this before today ) and we have decided to have a little collection and donate it to Sands charity who have been helping the babys mum out... I was okay today until I went onto their website and read some of the stories on there, I know I shouldn't have read them but it was that horrible curiousity when you know you shouldn't but can't help it - so that got me really worried and upset.
I'm feeling more positive now with baby kicking away at me but still pretty emotional. Watching this thing on TV from last night where men dress up as dolls so that's just freaking me out a bit ( no offense if any your OHs are one of them LOL )
On a more positive note tomorrow I go to pick my pram. I'm 99% sure of the Baby Style Oyster in the apple green colour but open to others. Also going to get a moses basket I think as I still haven't got one.
Would love to see nursery pictures if anyone has theirs ready ??
Hope you are all doing well0 -
Well I spent the morning on the labour ward this morning. Woke up at 2am with a banging headache and my ankles / legs / knees where quite swollen, took 2 parcetamols and went back to sleep. Woke at 6am in pain, headache still there but not as bad, still swollen legs, but also eyelids, hands, fingers and wrists. ouch.
Phoned MW and they advise to go in for checks. my poor DH had just come off a night shift and had to drive me the 40 minutes there. Sent him home to sleep and got my mum to come and sit with me, baby is fine, happy kicking away and it was so relaxing listening to the heartbeat....I nearly fell asleep! my blood pressure was high when I went in and had protein in my sample, few hours later, the swelling had gone down off my face and hands and my blood pressure was returning back to my normal reading. Couple of hours later BP was back to normal, bloods came back clear and had to give a 2nd sample to be sent off for more tests which I will get the results in 48 hours.
bit of drama for the morning! Popped into work on the way home, everyone was very concerned but glad I was ok. Manager advise that HR has granted my leave so only working 4 days a week now till end of Jan - whoooo. Now just resting on the sofa as my ankles are still like balloons, poor DH is on nights again tonight and before he left he filled a flask of tea for me so I didn't have to get up as much!!

ps - My mum and I nearly stole a few babies......they were so so so so cute!! seeing Dad carry them out in car seats, we just wanted to pinch one! Not long till I can take my own little cuteness home.Proud mummy to an amazing 8 year old!0 -
MrsBunny I'm glad your okay but what a fright? Did they say what it was as it sounds like the pre-eclampsia symptoms or an allergy.
Faerie your dream is the funniest and most detailed I've heard.
Only for weeks of work left and I can't wait. I'm still hoping the house purchase goes through soon. I haven't had the carpel tunnel again today so hopefully it won't be a problem. I also had a very nice midwife appointment yesterday, which made a change from the rubbish GP led ones. Measured 31cms at 32 weeks and found the heartbeat straight away as she could feel that baby was head down in the right side, and is was about 150bpm.
We went to the NCT breast feeding class last night which was okay. I expected more info on positioning and latching on but there wasn't too much of that. We discussed the different types and stages of breast milk, the benefits, storage and sterilisation, etc. We also discussed what we knew and what we wanted to know. Now the group have to start arranging our own get togethers and I wondered if anyone here had any ideas? Apart from a pub or coffee shop, can anyone think of a good first get together for 16 people that isn't too noisy and we can mingle well?Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Lol, I think baby has hiccups. I can feel a repetitive 'beat' down below that is too regular to be kicking/tapping and too slow for a heartbeat.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

firefly - my MW won't discuss induction with me as she knows I'll refuse one unless medically necessary. I'll happily go in for regular monitoring, but if I'm x amount of days over according to their prescribed time, so what my baby and body aren't ready to birth yet and I won't do anything to bring it on before time unless either of us goes into distress. That being said, I did have the s&S and I had another yesterday, but that was because we thought it might mean she'd arrive before OH went back to work (it didn't) and there wasn't any reason to refuse one yesterday given that I'd already accepted one. So they can sweep me as much as they like, the baby will arrive when cooked.
That being said, OH has just gone to pick up a curry takeawayDiary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:
