    Hi ladies!

Finally feeling confident enough in this pregnancy to properly introduce myself - 20+1 today with a little girl due on 25/5/14. We had our anomaly scan last week and everything was fine, so it's finally starting to sink in that we really will be bringing a baby home come May.

It took us 4 years to conceive this time, with a MC at 12 weeks in May 2012. Our DD is 5 now and we had 2 MCs before she came along, so since we found out we were expecting this little one it's been hard to believe we're finally getting our happy ending, but with all the wiggling about, big bump and last week's scan, it seems this one is for keeps :D

I've had hyperemesis since 6 weeks and been hospitalised twice so far for it, but it seems to be under control with the meds at the moment, so fingers crossed things will start to settle down now - I've not put any weight on yet with all the sickness, but my midwife doesn't seem worried.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and your bumps over the coming months!

Hi all, I'm number six on the list now and it does feel real now! I'll be full term (37 weeks) tomorrow! Although I started my mat leave just before Christmas, today is the first day with hubby back at work so this feels like proper mat leave! I've got a couple of jobs pencilled in my diary for every day this week, things like sort out tens machine, finish packing hospital bag, as well as more mundane stuff like hoovering, go to post office etc and nice things like hair cut and lunch with NCT friends.

We've got the babystyle oyster too, seems like a popular choice. What swung it for us was the adjustable handle (more than a foot difference between hubby and I) and the fact that it's compact and lightweight. We didn't buy the carrycot option, as the car seat we have (britax) also fits the top and is fine for small babies (up to two hours at a time). We can always change our minds later if the two hour limit becomes an issue and take a look on eBay, but we have a sling as well as a buggy for example if we go for a drive followed by a long walk and would be good if we can get by without another bit of baby kit! We got the dark blue buggy colours when we bought from Kiddicare but have since discovered that mothercare stock the light blue (ocean) which I like a lot more. With all the back and forth to the shops not sure if I can justify another trip to Kiddicare just to swap colours!!

No leaky boobs for me thankfully, currently struggling to sleep a bit more. Have done really well to get his far into pregnancy waking only once a night but am now starting to find that I can't get comfortable again after waking. I can only really sleep on my sides now and am finding my legs getting restless and uncomfortable and keeping me awake. Was awake for over an hour after a 5am wee this morning, and in the end I slept propped up on pillows almost sitting up from about 7 til 9am.

Congrats Lola and thanks for sharing your story. Welcome to all the newbies x

  • Morning all!

Catching up on here in between completing various emails/tasks at work to break it all up a bit. Feeling a bit snuffly today so would prefer to be at home with copious amounts of tea but I have a good attendance record (only a couple of days off in the past year and then it was because the dr told me I had to stay home so I went in to work and my manager took me home again haha!

Already feeling like I could just spend the day at home in the chilling clothes bf got me for Christmas (fleece bottoms and a big funnel necked fleece jumper) just doing random little jobs in fits and starts!

Bf's mum came over on Saturday night with her sewing machine and helped me make some moses basket sheets from a bedding set she got from a local market (cute pink gingham jersey) and a cot bed sheet. We then started making a bright jungle playmat for baby - we've quilted the main piece (bright yellow with cartoon animal print on the top and plain calico/cotton on the bottom) and not I'm left to prepare the decoration - I'm going to sew around a couple of the animals (to look applique-y) then I've cut double of a few out which I will back with cotton, stuff/fill, then applique over the matching animals to add texture etc :) It's not too big and not too small - perfect for when we take bubs to her first wheelchair rugby tournament (she'll be about 4 weeks if she comes on time) so that I can pop her down on something in the sports hall etc :)

Should probably be doing some work but all I can think of is baby bits and what else I'd like to get (non-urgent/non-essentials) as well as what I'll cook once we finally get a real cooker (ordering one soon yippee!) plus what I might do on my lunch break (walk to a near by supermarket to get some cash for the vets tomorrow and have a mosey for any reductions)...oooh isn't my life just so rock and roll :P And people think the wags of GB athletes live the high life :P

First official day of mat leave and had another great night's sleep :) luckily in my own bed- we had a power cut last night so nearly ended up sleeping at mum's. Rather embarrassingly my dad had to take down their stair gate as I couldn't fit through :(

Consultant appointment tomorrow to determine my care/birth plan from here on in. I've had no complications (touch wood) so hopefully I'll be able to be discharged completely to the midwives and have a 'normal' plan.

Think little lady's dropped down a bit more, movements feel lower down and more uncomfortable lol

I'm up to a 40J, which I got from debenhams but i think that's the limit of their range, so bravissimo/random sites if they grow again once milk comes in

In the bf workshop they said the hormones that make milk would only kick in properly once the placenta had stopped producing progesterone- ie at delivery. So whilst leaking is normal it's no reflection of how you'll make milk once baby's here. And in the first day baby only needs 7ml per feed, which is a tiny amount so your body has time to get up to speed so to speak

    Hi everyone

Kerri - I was expecting to log in and see that you'd 'popped' :) Enjoy your essential oils.

First day back at work and only six weeks to get through :D

I'm getting a bit anxious about baby coming as the consultants seem sure that I should be in the delivery suite and and my midwife (or should it be midman? just doesn't have the same ring) seems confident that the birthing center will be fine. I really want to be in the birthing center but I don;t want to turn up and be refused entry.

DH would have me tied to a bed in the delivery suite if he could with every wire and needle attached!

Leaky boobs - Mine haven't leaked this time, nor did they with DS before I had him. Afterwards......I was sleeping topless with towels under me and unless visitors were round I was topless or just had an old t-shirt on! :rotfl: I used a mix of reusable breast pads and disposables when being presentable.

While you've all been drooling over the Oyster (really nice pram, my friend had one) I'm still dreaming about the Joovy but it's £240! There's a cheaper type available but 5kgs heavier and I can't imagine being able to push that with a baby and toddler in situ.
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

  • Hi guys

Hope you all had fab weekends. We went to a garden centre up the road for breakfast - it has a little soft play area so DD burnt off lots of energy and had a nice long nap! Having a curry didn't get anything moving despite all the family winding me up all evening. Just got back from a nice sunny walk (only a mile each way) to the next village and got a lovely tuna salad roll for my lunch. Looking after a friend's little boy 2-5pm who is 5 days older than DD so need plenty of energy for the pair of them this afternoon! Luckily she is pretty chilled like I am with what the kids eat (within reason) so got a bag of choccie buttons as bribery if necessary!

Jox and Rummer still thinking of you and hoping all is ok.

Kerri, I'm sure you will get hold of hubby if need be. A nice relaxing day sounds a wonderful idea.

Mrs TM - no advice on the leaking I'm afraid, hopefully it will settle down in time. I'm sure you know about applying back pressure to make it stop (ie crossing arms over your chest or if you're in private just squashing boobs whichever way is easier :rotfl:), as bfing works on supply and demand this can also help your body to know it's not appropriate to be producing milk at that time.

Lushlifesaver sounds like you had a lovely crafty afternoon with MIL - I'm jealous of the fleece jammies though! I am living in my dressing gown at the moment :T

Lola huge congratulations and thanks for the update and birth story.

Firefly as TeamLowe says whether you leak or not is no reflection of whether you'll be able to bf. I never leaked, or got above a B or half-empty C cup, even when DD was a baby, and she never had a bottle (little monkey wouldn't take one, but that's another story!) until she self weaned at 15 months.

Today is my first day off work and I feel rubbish! I've managed to get dressed and put 1 load of washing in but have written everything else off for today. I saw every hour last night, I either woke up with achey hips or heart burn so it's probably all down to lack of sleep.

My boobs haven't changed at all, they are still a B cup. I was really hoping for bigger boobs, maybe I'll get them when my milk comes in?

Is anyone else struggling with names? We had no problem deciding on a girls name but can't agree at all on a boys name. The problem is I have my heart set on Isaac and he hates it. Everything he suggests, I don't like and vice versa. We have 1 name that we both like but I just don't love it like I do with Isaac! I am worried that if I compromise that I'll regret it but at the same time I don't want him to hate his son's name either.

What are peoples views on Raspberry leaf tea? I am tempted to try the capsules but am worried about early labour.

Congratulations Lola! Hope you and baby are doing well :)
  • Hi Ladies

Has anyone started stocking up on newborn nappies yet? My second one is due in April and when I had my first the Huggies Start Kit glitch was around which saved us a fortune!! (some of you might remember it??!) got all the info from this fab site.

Anyway wondered if there's another glitch I'm missing or maybe what the best price for newborn nappies is. I was very happy using the Aldi nappies and Asda Little Angles on my little girl when we moved on from size 1 so might just go with them??

    Thanks
  • Hi ladies,

I'm still lurking here for news of Jox, Rummer and Kerri...
Kerri - I cannot believe you are still here - I am in Bristol too so when I went into St Michaels on new years day I thought you might be in at the same time as me (although obv wouldn't have known who you were!)

Jox and Rummer - have fingers crossed for you and waiting for happy news!

All those talking about boobs... I had leaky boobs from about 28 weeks but not enough to use pads, just really if you messed about with them.

As for size - I have always been a 34/36 B... went up to C during late pregnancy, and now I have a 6 day old I look like Jordan :shocked:.
Honestly looks and feels like I have got F cup implants - I'm enjoying the look while I can because unless I get surgery it's the best they'll ever be :rotfl::rotfl:
OH can't believe it and giggles at them, but he can't do anything with them because touching them sets off an uncontrollable river of milk!

Bubs is obviously benefitting because he has gained 4.5oz in 2 days - little fatty!:D

I will keep lurking for a wee while for the news of other Jan babies - keeping fingers crossed for a nice birth experience for all of you.
