  • I'm 28wk and at my 24wk appt the (stand in) midwife told me I was think far too far ahead and basically made me feel like a dipstick for asking about when I should be thinking about booking the antenatal classes...then said 'well if you must do it call the community office. They'll tell you' !!!
Called them and they are all booked up bar two! And was told I should have booked much earlier *rolls eyes* the nhs ones here are just two 2hr sessions and we are having to do them at a different centre to the one nearest us to do them on a day we can both make!

All this talk about labour etc has got me thinking and after a quick look at the other threads (I love seeing how the others are getting on), I noticed that they were talking about booking antenatal classes and have now gone into full blown panic mode!

My MW hasn't mentioned anything to me and is on AL now so my next appointment will be with another MW. I'm under the impression that the NHS ones get fully booked early. Does anyone have any advice?

I have found the form to book, printed it out and have started filling it out but not sure if I'm too late/early. I'm 26 +5 now if that helps.

I'm starting to get a headache just thinking about all of this

Hi faith......I only book the nhs ones at 29 weeks (dec) and I start them next week (33 week). My MW did mention them to me from very early on and I did print out all the dates back in August to 'get organised' ...didn't work very well!!! I had no trouble booking on the courses I wanted to do despite MW, website and posters saying to book early.

Hi faith, at my 28 weeks appointment when I got the anti d injection the midwife asked me if I'd filled in the form for the nhs classes, I hadnt seen it in my file before so filled it in there and gave it her and a couple weeks later got a letter with dates, 14th Jan for birth workshop, 21st Jan for breastfeeding workshop and 28th Jan for some other workshop, might have got the order wrong. But may not be able to attend them....I'm still in hospital, 14th day and c-section is planned for Wednesday! Trying to stay calm and positive.

I found the following on Pinterest and I've just made it in about half an hour from a curtain offcut... it's fab! and it can be adjusted when we move the bed base down. http://www.viewalongtheway.com/2012/04/silliest-little-adjustable-crib-skirt-tutorial-on-the-web/

This is a fab idea, I've been looking at the codbed and thinking it looked messy!

Jox, sorry to hear your still in hospital - thinking of you.

I don't think you can be too early with certain things once you've past about 20 weeks. I was supposed to book them around where you are now, might have been mentioned at 24 week appointment??, for reference.

Good luck for Wednesday (my due date!)! What was the deciding factor for the early eviction? Hope you're not going too stir crazy and that all goes well on Wednesday and beyond :)

    AFM:
I'm not sure if it's my fibro symptoms (nerve pain in this particular case) or hormones or both but I'm getting really agitated tonight. Doesn't help that mother rang an hour ago 'just seeing how you're doing' (code: have you gone into labour and not told me?). I asked if she was kidding and basically put the phone down  I was actually in bed, having a blub on DH at the time

I'm getting antsy about the labour (re my risk factors) and MiniZee being ok, now :o (hearing from a friend whose pregnancy ended in tragedy just before New Year also isn't helping my anxiety :( she lost at least a set of twins before this pregnancy and a 6 year old daughter before that too )

DH has seen too much grief and mourning too, especially in recent years, and we're both fairly terrified that this happiest of 'happy endings' might be snatched away from us too :(:o

Thanks Claire... we saw that when looking. Our cot bed could really do with repainting, but I'm not worrying about that right now.
For the crib we are using just a wax finish. Baby is unlikely to chew those bars (we'll move baby into cotbed when they are pulling up etc) and briwax is non-toxic when cured. My Grandad woodturns and he uses it to finish his salad bowls, so I know it's ok.

I was looking for something to cover up all the toys etc that I'm storing under the cotbed, but I couldn't face making anything complicated... I found the following on Pinterest and I've just made it in about half an hour from a curtain offcut... it's fab! and it can be adjusted when we move the bed base down. http://www.viewalongtheway.com/2012/04/silliest-little-adjustable-crib-skirt-tutorial-on-the-web/
I may have just enough fabric left from the other curtain to do the end of the cotbed that is exposed too, but the other end has a chest of drawers next to it, so I won't do that one. I am sooooo excited about this nursery! It's so fresh and lovely. :)

Love this idea. Might make one!

I keep forgetting to book my one day nhs one! But I booked the nct one about 16/17 weeks and I got the last space on the one I wanted although there was one more option I could have chosen.

Bz that's horrible that poor lady.

I have similar fears. I'm quite anxious at the moment since the tape measure thing especially.

I don't really know how to help but I know how it feels!

I'm sure you can imagine all my fears! Fearing for baby and myself, god help us! Will probably pay the prayer room a few visits between now and Tuesday night.
Deciding factor on eviction is that baby isn't growing much and may be better off in neonatal unit, plus amniotic fluid is decreasing. I feel fine in myself but midwives and doctors seem to be treating me like bone china. Can't fault the care so far.
Let's hope for happy endings (and beginnings) for all of us xx

RE Cot bed skirt... before I made it (so it matched the other fabric...OCD?!?!) I used a cot sized flat sheet (from Mum's loft) which was just the right length, and tucked halfway under the mattress. That would have done the job perfectly if I didn't want it to match. :)
also, depending on your cot bed you might only need to do one side. The ends of ours are solid and the gap is only about 6", so it would be pretty pointless to do, however, on the long side, there's an 18" gap.
