  • So ladies, as promised here is the story!!

baby boy arrived at 5.32 am on new years day, weighing 5lb14.
However, after waking up just after 3am with bellyache my waters broke very quickly, (massive pop then gush, full of blood and meconium) contractions were strong and frequent from the start. Stuck tens machine on and timed contractions at every 2.5-3 mins. Called hospital, was told to go straight in, but when I tried to get dressed to leave the house I had an uncontrollable urge to push... tried to pant through it but body was pushing all on it's own, and then realised I could feel the head!! We abandoned plans of leaving and OH called an ambulance... so with me lying on bathroom floor he talked to ambulance control, saying he can see the head, they were instructing him how to deliver... Fortunately at this point paramedics showed up, and 5 mins later after two big pushes baby was out! I did get skin to skin straight away, and we waited as long as we could before cord cutting. Paramedics offered gas and air but only had time for 2 breaths!
I do not recommend this birth method if you have expensive towels!!! Happily we had not yet put out the nice new ones we got for xmas!

Went off in ambulance to hospital, where They were threatening me with the hormone injection to get placenta out but happily he decided to feed which restarted contractions and it appeared without the jab.
We spent the day on post natal ward getting checked as there was meconium in the waters, but sent home at 6pm.
He is tiny and swimming in all his clothes, even newborn size is massive. But he is just so lovely, I can't believe we made him!He is currently cuddled up asleep in my lap.

Will read back through other posts when I have more time between feeds!

Again, writing while catching up (it's the only way you get a decent response ;)) so chances are someone else has said what I've said or it's not relevant by the time I've got to the end :p

Mornin all, 12th day in hospital! Had a little meltdown at doc yesterday as i was narked at missing new yr eve with hubby and said if I haven't had baby by Friday then I'd like to be discharged as nowt wrong with me and baby is fine on the 40 odd monitors I've had! They're arranging an ambulance for me from my hospital in north London to the hospital in central London for a scan at 2.30pm today. My mum wanted to come with me but not be able to come in ambulance so will meet me there.
It's a bit rubbish they won't let your mum go in with you. We've had that conversation before now with MIL too though, I know how it goes  Not at all surprised you had a meltdown - anyone would, I reckon!

Hope the scan today is good, rather than an eviction order :o Placenta previa isn't something to be trifled with and I can understand their cautious attitude. It's gotta suck for you though :( From my understanding, your options are either constant monitoring in hospital where they're on hand all the time, or the perhaps the possibility of bed rest at home... neither is gonna allow for working, so I think you're probably going to have to bite the bullet and tell work what's going on :o

I have the health visitor coming out today, wonder if she will be more use than my mw?!
I don't see my health visitor til something like 2 weeks after birth!

Ellie - [STRIKE]intrigued to hear your full story![/STRIKE] What a crazy but lovely story (from this side ;)) So glad everything turned out well in the end. Congratulations again! :D

Kerri - hope little lady has her timing right ;)

Sjlou & claire - [STRIKE]you could try emailing them for the extra 10% off. After all you could send it back and reorder to get the discount, and that's faff for both parties. Apparently Amazon are doing refunds like this atm (I saw something about it on the forum deals thing)[/STRIKE] I see it's too late for this now

Birdie - lol @ the fireworks milarky!

From my experience, I would try not to buy much in the way of nursing bras til say 36 weeks. My rib cage and b00bs have changed a lot in the last month. I got one with room for growth (the equivalent of an L so fit a few sizes), but still struggled and had to buy another with a bigger size (an XL). I suspect I'll manage to fit back in the L at some point post birth, but still, glad I only bought one (I'm at home most of the time so only wear "proper" ones when I have to go out ;))

Re stretch marks, I've managed to not accrue any fresh ones! But I did already have quite a few from my teen years and getting fat ;) (arms, legs, b00bs, belly - nothing's safe :p) I lost 6stone in the 18months-ish pre-pregnancy so I already had room to grow without stretching further ;) I've had DH put the cocoa butter (samples) stuff on my belly a few times, but mainly because it's felt dry and/or itchy.

Rummer - Good luck with the induction today, hope all is well and baby is fine and doesn't need to spend much/any time in NICU

re Drinking, I'm not fussed now. I've never been a big drinker but in the first trimester I did miss the odd Steamboat (SoCo, lime & lemonade). I think there was more birthdays in the first trimester though... I'm hoping I'll be equally as un-fussed if BFing goes well ;) In an ideal world I'd like to be able to BF for the 6 months til bubs goes on solids... I've had the odd sip for taste, of DH's etc, and it doesn't concern me - and I'd feel the same about while BFing, but it's interesting to see the quote you posted too Fluff

re Names/gender - at least you guys have names picked out!! We're still scarily at a loss and can't decide/agree!

Sjlou - we got black for our car seat and pram too, as we're also team yellow. When we picked our travel system the options were black or reds. DH wanted reds, but then I had a paranoia about having a girl wearing pinks and it clashing :o Plus there's that many colourful things that go in/on the pram, toys and whatnot, that it won't be boring when you've got a bubs in it :)

I too love newborns/wee babbas in white, but we've been given so much stuff (handmedowns) that I can pass off as gender neutral but isn't white that I had to buy a few white newborn bits ;) Hope I don't fall foul of the black tar explosion ;)

I've found the 3rd trimester more nauseous than the 2nd, and more food fussy again. Not as bad as the first, but some of the same aversions (not interested in red meat again etc)

That particular predictor says girl for us (I've been feeling boy all the way along, for no "real" reason) but the predictors I played with in the beginning said boy :p

    Claire - step away from B&B! :p
I bought some o&m J2o's for my Christmas "drink" treat when they were on offer in Mr M's :)

Kerri - was it you that hadn't wanted a sweep all the way along? MW said that as my appt with her is 39+6 she can't do it that day (or she'd be 'struck off' - I'm sure it's an exaggeration but still...), but I could go to her clinic on the day after (as well, rather than instead?!) at another location when I'm exactly 40wks for it. I'm in 2 minds, frankly... Don't fancy the idea at all (which is ridiculous in some ways, given how much I got mauled during the arduous TTC journey :p), but am getting increasingly enthusiastic about getting this baby out ;)

Firefly - so glad the metformin is doing the job for you :) Hope it's not causing much in the way of tummy upset (it can do, as a side effect, particularly when you first start taking it - as a number of us TTC ladies found out ;)

AFM, I'm starting to get 'coded' texts, such as "How you feeling" (code: is this baby coming or what?! :p). The best/most stupid is still "not long now", as if you're not aware enough of when your due date is *rolleyes*;)

I had some BH and baby rearrangement pain last night and DH kept looking hopefully and asking if I was in labour. (I think he really didn't want to go back to work today! :rotfl:) I told him it was really annoying and he better pack it in! He said "I'm only joking... I know you'd tell me when you were in labour... maybe after an hour though" (I think I'd need to be pretty sure before alerting the potential stress monster :rotfl:).

We've had family members and friends saying about letting them know when I'm in labour - and I'm just thinking "er, no!" but been replying with a nice vague "we'll keep you posted". I don't want mithering through contractions and afterbirth! And we'd certainly want a few hours to bond before getting mithered too... I can just see us letting my folks know, for eg, and them planning their diary around when they assume they can visit - or worse, turning up at the hospital...! Erm, no :p When I was admitted for the day for fluids, they'd took it upon themselves to tell my sibling(s) (unnecessarily imo) ...what would they be like with imminent baby news?!

That's a really interesting post Fluff (as always! :)) so thank you! Shall save it for future reference! :)

What a crazy birth story Ellie! At least it was quick! :)

BZ, I don't know what we'll do about telling people when I'm in labour either- don't want to make the parents feel like they're being left out if we keep quiet until the baby is here (which they probably would) but then again I don't want to have to keep them up to date with how things are progressing and having them arrive at the hospital within an hour of him arriving! Hmmmm... still need to figure that one out! :o

OH was having a slight panic today about me not having the hospital bags ready so just flew around town to pick up the last bits so they can be packed tonight. :) Don't plan on needing them for a while, but best to be prepared!

    Interesting post fluffnutter, thanks,

I just discovered the Chinese Gender Chart on the babycenter website.
    http://www.babycenter.com/chinese-gender-predictor

Just curious..does it match those of you who know pink or blue??

It says pink for me, and we've been feeling girl for a while now but with no concrete reason!

Mines saying boy but scans showing girl :)

Says boy for us. We think ours is a boy, but won't find out until at least the end of January. We don't really care, so long as it's healthy!

Mine says girl :) Hope its correct as everyone elses seems back to front! [STRIKE]Must not read into silly gender predictors and start buying boy clothing [/STRIKE]

I think we'll probably tell the parents when we are going to the hospital, but tell them not to come until we say. They are only a 15 min drive away. Well mine are, DHs mum lives 6 hours away and his Dad lives abroad so we'll see them at a later date.

My friend did the same and both her and her husbands parents went to the hospital pretty much straight away and sat in the waiting room for like 6 hours or something eating food etc. I didnt really get the point of that all they were doing was racking up a massive car parking fee :rotfl:But I dont think my parents would do that as like I said they can be there in 15 minutes if needs be.

So that way we could also have some time on our own first. And I guess it depends at what time of day it all happens too.

Ellie I love your birth story, in some ways its probably the best way if everything is ok, just get it over and done with no time to worry! My sister came in pretty much the exact same fashion with my dad delivering her as the ambulance couldnt find our house and she came out quick. I need to read up more about that injection, I guess the NCT classes will talk about it.

Sjlou - Due date says boy, conception date says girl!! Scan says girl and that's what we're planning for so let's hope it's right!

Rummer - good luck with the induction, looking forward to hearing your news.

Kerri - fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long now!

Ellie - what a great story! Sounds mad but glad everything went well in the end!! Enjoy your little one! Do you have a name for him yet? Good story to tell him when he's older!

I've just had a horrible experience in John Lewis, picking up a lampshade for the babys room from the click and collect service. The woman at the customer service til was vile! Before I'd even said anything or given my order number, she looked at me with disdain, like I was a piece of **** on the bottom of her shoe.

It's hard to describe how rude she was too me as she didnt actually say anything rude but she had the worst attitude. Her tone was that of complete exasperation like she really didnt want to deal with me and everytime she said something to me, she gave a huge sigh as if I was taking up her precious time!

To make matters worse, my ID didnt match my paypal acct that Id paid with (its still in my maiden name) and she spoke to me like I'd committed mass murder!!
In contrast I went to pick up something from Tesco click and collect ten minutes later and the man there was the complete opposite - so friendly and helpful. However by the time I got into Tesco, I was almost in tears because of the way the John Lewis witch had spoken to me!! I know its pregnancy emotions but still... there was definitely no need for her rudeness!

I'm thinking about dropping a line to John Lewis and letting them know what she was like, although its not like they'll do anything!! :)

I would. JL rely and are known for their customer service, they might have a word with her.

The high street is not doing well now so they cant afford to have bad service when its one of the main reasons people go there.

Just nipping in to show my face. I can't help but stalk this thread! I miss being here and being pregnant despite everything. I hope that feeling passes when the hormones clear up.

Good luck to everyone due soon and especially to Jox xxx

Thanks Claire, I've just emailed the store now to let them know. Hopefully I'll at least get some kind of acknowledgment. Dont really want anything else, just wanted to let them know how rude she was!!! It doesn't cost anything to be nice now does it!!! :)
