  • Since I last posted, was diagnosed with a chest infection and have been ingesting antibiotics ever since. In a way I was lucky as I realised I had more than a cold before my gp closed for the festivities. I've been with this surgery since birth and it just makes everything easier. I also had another matter dealt with while there so cancelled appt for the 8th jan. It also meant that I was able to despatch my two to see granny without me which made Christmas Day easier. Given she's 84, she shouldn't be exposed to infectious people! So apart from the mania that still comes from playing Santa to 2 children in their late 20s, I've had a very low key break. Got some lovely presents inc 4 new books that I've wanted but been afraid to buy as I know they are an obvious choice for presents for me. Also got tickets to 2 nights out in January so will have stuff to look forward to in that bleakest of months. Only real downside of feeling slightly below par was a scaling back in the veg preparation. No leftover spuds sprouts or carrot and parsnip. What will I have with my oniony cheddar! Hope everyone enjoyed the break. I'm hoping to spend the rest of the break making plans for 2015 when I will break the mortgage £100k barrier.

Get well soon, no fun being poorly and on anti-b's - enjoy a well deserved rest and with some new books to read too.

I'm really excited for you to be in the 90s on the mortgage next year. That's such a big milestone :j:j and looking forward to reading your goals and plans to get there. It's something I need to do too. :)

    Hi INOD,

I hope you had a lovely Xmas and get better soon.
  • Today I removed temptation from my way and converted £137.50 in clubcard points into avios miles. It'll take them a month to come through but should cover any flights to be taken this year though there's nothing planned as yet. I am grateful that
We could afford to make the change of points rather than spending on shopping
    Leftovers for lunch and dinner
    An NSD
    Good peeps on here.

Today started ridiculously early as I had to get DS to the airport at six. That did however require wakening the fully clothed and shod party animal who still had to pack having had less than 2 hours sleep. It was not a pretty picture. This was also the first day this winter that the car was totally frozen over. The carpark machine in the airport rejected my ticket so fun and games all pre seven. Isn't it amazing how his father can make demands on his time but is never available for airport runs, etc. I then returned to bed and got warm. Am still feeling a bit wobbley but am hopefully over the worst of things. My sister called by today and dropped off gifts. This is the one who is comfortably off so my Christmas present was a repeat of what I received last year for my birthday. A tea towel. Really? Did I not take the hint previously? At least I was spared the handmade knitted offerings for dd and oh. Postal service resumed today so I received a healthcare refund of £150 so that will be lodged on Monday and will go off the mortgage. Tomorrow, I'm gonna start tackling the to dos that I'd really like to get out of the road pre 05 jan and the return to work. These may involve recourse to the recycling centre, charity shop and ebay. I also want to visit the building society next week and get my isa passbook updated so I can do a financial status update for 31 dec.
    today I am grateful for
    Lazy time
    A safe journey for DS
    An overseas phone call.

  • Slight change of intention for tomorrow as I've seen the weather forecast. I had intended a trip out of the house, the first since 23rd bar a few car trips but I've a feeling that laundry and freezer related tasks may be a better option. Hope everyone is snug and warm.

  • Another LBM / resolution hit today. While browsing online sales I decided that, with the possible exception of a bookcase for the living room, there are no non essential house purchases being made until I have a place for everything that I currently have and want to keep. I have pictures that have never been hung, books stacked up and littering every room etc. I had considered the kindle route but do like paper. The only reason I'm saying non essential rather than all is I don't want to tempt the dishwasher breaking elves. When I get everything sorted, I'm rewarding myself with new sheets and pillowcases. I know this may mean I miss the sales but there's always a sale somewhere. I truly need more structure in my home life. Also, I give a significant part of my income to this house, it seems madness not to have it where I can truly enjoy it. So, anyone out there reading this, please nag regularly.
