  • Well after a ridiculously late night for a school night, I feel like death. All I wanna do is sleep but I owe, I owe so off to work I go. Hope everyone gets the week off to a good start.

  • Hi INOD

Sorry you are having a rough start to the week. Lots going on for you so lots on your mind.

I am having a lovely lie in this morning, although I finished another job application last night so have a stiff neck from staring at the PC. As usual I wasn't happy with my application but ran out of time and we had no dinner in our house. Not sure why DD and DH can't prep something, but to be fair the cupboard was bare - I need to stock up the freezer this week with HM stuff. I feel the same as you about this application I've just applied for. Fab job but a minimum extra 30 mins travel each way and possibly more as its a motorway journey and through city traffic) That probably doesn't sound drastic to some people but we live a mile from a bus stop so DD relies on me to get her home (at 15 she's too young to walk home in the pitch dark on country lanes). It would be great to get the interview but if I don't I'll be fairly okay with it. I've also got my other interview on Friday and I'm getting to like the idea of no car travel and minimum responsibility. I'm on a two month notice period so it would be a new year start, which is really nice. I've also got another application to get in for a job in town in a different sector, but looks interesting. Where do these vacancies keep springing from?:rotfl:

Well done on the weight loss and the lottery - sounds like one more good thing to make it 3 in a row! Christmas chutney smell sounds wonderful. I think you need to bottle it and send it out to us all. I may look for recipes just for the fragrance. Did you sort out the jars in the end, I think I've used Tupperware when it's happened to me before, not ideal but needs must.

Hope you have a good day.

Gosh, INOD - how I wish you lived near me, you could have had the contents of my recycling box. I always cringe at the 'perfectly good' jars and lids that are in there, but as I am not a jam or chutney maker, I've only 'saved' so many (for spice storage etc)

Really well done with your weight loss - with a goal in sight :T
I hope your week goes well and that you catch up on the Zzzz's at some point. I shall be thinking on this week, and hopefully recharging batteries - yesterday was a good start to the *recharge* :D

  • Well I made it to the end of a ridiculously long week. One 14 hour day followed by a 12 hour day and I didn't get my day off but that's it over and done with. The news is that I now have an interview date confirmed of 05 November and the other news is that there is now another candidate in the running which makes things interesting. Today was an early start as dd had to be deposited for a coach pick up across town at half seven. So I made it to m&s early for their two dine in. Didn't manage a chicken but oh welcomed the duck breasts. However ended up spending just over £100 as they had lots of burgers, chicken portions, etc reduced due to dates expiring today along with half price boxes of biscuits, 3 for 2 on chocolate sprouts and £2 off a small Christmas cake. I then went to a local supermarket and got the various other bits and pieces and used a £5 off a £25 spend so something to go towards the mortgage. Came home and have just turned off the monster pot of stew that I made with some potatoes I had along with special offer meat and veg. I will bring some down to my mum' slater in the hope of deflecting criticism about not having been down all week. Working 250 miles away tues and wed is not an acceptable excuse apparently. It has started to rain and is windy and miserable. Am looking forward to a night with my stew, my oh and probably really poor telly but I don't care. Some weeks it's hard to get time for us and I miss it. Anyhow, things have been spendy recently though I've expenses to claim next week. Am being a bit of an ostrich as I'm scared how balances may look. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

  • Hi INOD, you sound like you have had a really long tough week. Hope you are okay - you sound pretty upbeat still. I was reading about your long days and thinking back to mine, when I was going home and feeling really rubbish and really depressed at the weekend because I was so exhausted. I think it was made worse because I wasn't appreciated and so there was zero satisfaction at a job well done - just a constant could do better attitude.

Sorry to hear you get a bit of ribbing from your mum. Seems to me that you are doing brilliantly.

Good luck with your interview, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. :)

  • I rounded up some unspent holiday currency from earlier this year, got it changed and now have enough to cover a weekly bill more or less through to end of the year. Had a bit of a melt down with OH but hopefully that got things cleared and we can move forward. Same with dd who has just been taking too many things for granted recently. Hopefully this will have provided a warning to behave until after my interview. On other news, I escaped relatively unscathed from mother yesterday though one of my sisters did pass a snide comment or two when she saw a new coat in my car. This is one to wear over a suit when out and about at work. She's a sahm who rarely spends money on clothes or accessories and feels virtuous about it. I rarely spend on weekend or after work clothes but do spend on work attire as I feel it's expected and, as anyone out there who is overweight can probably agree, it boosts confidence if the clothes are the right ones even if the size isn't. This same sister is quite happy to borrow shoes and bags if she has somewhere to go. Sorry, here endeth the rant

Anyhow, today I am grateful for
    A full fridge
No weight gain (or loss) in spite of my working away
A lovely cooked breakfast from oh
The optimism I find on this site - it really cheers me up.

    Good luck with your interview.

I may be a bloke but I agree completely with your comments about clothes. A certain standard is reasonably expected when working. It is not acceptable to criticise somebody for buying decent clothes for work.....they are tools of the trade and a sign of best workers :) !!

  • Rant heard and you have my total empathy. I agree with Brogden. Besides its your money, you prioritise how its spent. Sometimes its a little bit of jealousy I think - don't take it to heart. Clothes can boost your confidence and a coat that goes on over your work clothes can just make the whole outfit feel so professional.

Go INOD, we're on your team! :)

  • Today I have the odd task of finalising a tender presentation to be delivered on Wednesday. Oddly though I will be competing against my potential new employer for the work. It's a weird set up and one I've never faced before. Had a lazy day yesterday which may have given rise to the disturbed night. When I wasn't awake, I was having weird dreams such as me being pregnant with twins! It doesn't get any scarier than that. Anyhow, must go as it feels like it may take a while to make myself presentable. Hope the week gets off to a good start for everyone. Take care
