Oh INOD, it must be so difficult to have a mother who treats you like that. mfmaybe said it all really. You are doing so incredibly well. I can't understand why people act like that. My mum's sister is, as described by me, "evil with a nice streak". They haven't seen each other since before Christmas last year. We met up on Saturday for the fund raising thing my cousin was doing and we all had a lovely day. My aunt was quite well behaved (for her) and all was good. As we were leaving, my aunt said something to my mum, out of my earshot, and my mum cried most of the way home in the car. Half an hour earlier she had been laughing and giggling, really enjoying herself. I don't really know what to say INOD, I just want to send you some ((((hugs)))) :)

Thanks gap, it kinda is as you describe. I know that if there's something wrong, my mum comes through (if you can bear to admit to her what's going on) but other times she's just so mean. My dd kindly assured me last night that if I turn into her, either she or DS will kill me. So, another disturbed night. Booked mother's flight as directed yesterday. Then told Canadian sister who suddenly isn't happy with her coming home before us as mum will be travelling on her own. She'd previously said that she couldn't take additional time off but then yesterday said that she was working on it to be able to spend time with mum while she's out there. I told her if she's that bothered, she may send someone else on the flight.
Anyhow, coat sold on ebay. OH announced that there was £90 in paypal to be put towards the mortgage so yay! Anyhow, got to go and try to face the world. Fingers crossed that work goes well.

I agree! The very fact that you will do everything in your power to ensure your Nephew is protected from whatever happens just shows how much you care.

I'm sorry your mother (and by the sounds of it, extended family) is such hard work. It's true that you can't pick your relatives. You will no doubt just have to grin and bear it whilst you are away. I'm assuming you've been to Toronto before? It's a nice place to spend some time, so hopefully you will get a bit of time away from the family to enjoy it. But you never know, it might all work out brilliantly ;)

  • So, today kicked off with a breakfast seminar. Only prob was the offering. Croissants and pastries that flaked everywhere and coated everything in a film of grease or fruit where juices trickled down chins. Not a good selection so I just stuck with coffee. Managed to leave the office at 1 on my non working day. Things are starting to come together work wise. Just need to keep calm. Today's MSE things include returning two items to shops for refunds and checking fpl. Today I am grateful for
Time to sort out laundry and dishwasher
    A nursery dinner
    A grateful client
Inspirational tales on here that people take time to post
    A dog snoozing beside me
Finding something tasty for OH's dinner

    Croissants sounded very tasty though!

Seriously though I'm sorry to hear how your mum is with you. The mum of a friend of mine acted very similarly with her and her siblings. We came to the conclusion that as the mum had a struggle bringing the family up she was jealous of her children when they had grown as she perceived they had the lives she felt she had missed out on. She loved her children and like your mum would be there for them but sometimes she could set the world alight! I hope you have a lovely time in Toronto and perhaps your mum will surprise you and enjoy herself too.

  • Thanks ssg, you're pretty much on the money. I truly think my mum resented being a sahm. The thing is she is even worse to my sister in law whose crime was she married my brother. So, today I have to tell a client that the areas we reviewed for them are fundamentally carp. Not going to be pleasant. I also have an appt with a dermatologist so fingers crossed for that. Anyhow, up and at em.

The good thing for your sister in law is that she can have a good moan to her friends about her awful mother in law and they will nod in sympathy and have a chance for discussion. Also she doesn't have the same blood ties so she can dislike her mother in law without feeling guilty.

    You are doing great! x

  • Work, so so, the dermatologist omg! Apparently it's now been discovered that the only drugs that control my Rosacea can lead to pigmentation and your skin taking on a grey tone when there's prolonged use. I've been on them about 5 years. I know have two alternatives that I have to try. Not good as one increases photo sensitivity which means factor 50 if in hot climes. NYC in late June for example. Anyhow, am gonna beg a final prescription of existing ones and start the changeover post holiday. On other matters, been short listed for a tender so have a presentation next wed 100 miles away. There goes my four day week again. I'm getting fed up with this. It's happened so many times that there physically aren't enough days for me to be compensated as I still have 2 weeks leave from last year. On the plus side, I transferred the paypal money gained from ebaying to the mortgage account so things are continuing in the right direction. Now need to figure out what to wear as I'm straight to dinner from work today and OH has offered to iron for me.

Today I'm grateful for someone else doing the ironing.
