  • I'm definitely going to look further into it as next year I am 50, DD is 21 and DS is 18 so my plan is to treat us to a great holiday and that'll be my gift to them. I'll see how I go xx

  • EEeergh to banks. so, having worked through the banking on line system in an attempt to change the date of my mortgage payment, i gave in and called them. i initially had the experience of being directed to my branch but then, joy of joys, defaulted back to the call centre. I explained what i wanted to do i.e. from NEXT month, change the payment date from 23rd to 2nd. was told that I could do this online for everything bar mortgages. was told i needed to speak to someone in the branch as they may otherwise think that I had failed to pay. having explained again that the date was to be moved forward, i was advised that they bank could call me back re this but it may not be this week due to the bank holiday.:( I asked if it could be dealt with by phone and, when advised yes, told the very pleasant but useless staff member that she should communicate my request to the branch and that I would expect a response via the secure on line messaging function.

I am so cheesed off with people who either aren't up to jobs or can't be bothered being paid from MY MONEY:eek:

To calm myself I went on line and transferred a tenner. I've been okish this month so if it doesn't go there, it will just evaporate. have just raised the "non defined" kitty tin and rescued the grand total of £1. am gonna put in my purse and transfer another £1 to mortgage.

I'm having such an angry day. realised that tesco mobile haven't been giving me my clubcard points and no one will take ownership of this. most likely outcome, i'll move to another provider. also, the coat i deliberated about buying here, i took out of wardrobe and decided i didnt like the shape of it. it's totally unworn. when am i gonna learn!

Oh INOD, typical banks. I have a British Gas one if it makes you feel any better? I was with them last year fully covered for boiler breakdown, electrics, water, the lot. This year they send me a letter telling me that because I was a loyal customer they were lowering my dd (by 14p, woop de do) for this year. Very well, I thought. A few weeks later (when the dd hadn't left my account - totally noticed but left the money in my account and waited for them to say something) they wrote to me saying "You have cancelled your direct debit. Please contact us to set it up again." I knew I hadn't cancelled it but I called the bank to double check in case it was an error at my end. Bank told me that BG had cancelled it. I called BG and told them this. They told me there was an error on their system and it was happening to a lot of people but they couldn't re set it up for me over the phone there and then, someone would have to call me back. I was still waiting for that call (since end of Feb) up until yesterday when I received another letter from them saying "We are sorry you have decided not to renew your policy with us this year. However if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to help." Eh, no thanks BG.

I am not even going to start telling you about ScottishPower. It took 18 months for them to agree that I was right and it would take about that long for me to type it all.

Can you take the coat back? (I'm sorry, I can't remember where you got it from). Could you sell it on?

    (((hugs)))
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000
  • i think i can probably sell the coat on. it was a good brand but was mail order and well outside the return period. i'm in barnstorming form today. i have just tackled tesco mobile re my absent clubcard points. woe betide anyone who puts a toe out of line today!! i've decided that i am fed up feeling down or angry due to other people. if they (particularly institutions) upset me, the high blood pressure will be theirs not mine!

I'd like to join the rants if you don't mind.

    Orange.
I pay £16 a month for 2000 mins, 1.5gb data and unlimited texts on my iPhone.
I checked my 'Your Orange' app on Monday as I like to see if I've run up any extra fees. I noticed £3.98 on my "your spends this month" part.
I looked at it and it was for data. !!!!!!? I've only used half my data allowance this month... how come I've accrued that much of a fee?
I thought, never mind, I'll pay it. Then yesterday I thought, no dammit, I'm not paying it. I'm phoning them up.

So I phoned them, asked what was going on, and apparently a lot of people were charged for using data on 11th April, and I won't be charged for it. I said ok, but that I would definitely be back in contact if, on 20th May (when my bill for April will be paid) I'm £3.98 worse off. We'll just have to wait and see about that one.

    Another one is Anglian Water.
Mum enquired about a water meter 2 years ago. They came out and couldn't turn the stop !!!! off so said they'd be back in contact.
    Heard nothing more.
So a couple of months ago, I contacted them about getting a water meter installed. They contacted us saying the could come out on 18th March. Mum said fine. At 9am she had a phone call from the engineer saying he was at our address, but in Ipswich instead of Peterborough
He said he'd contact base and let us know about rearranging. My mum stayed in all day waiting for them to recontact her and heard nothing.
The next day we phoned them and they knew nothing about our appointment, the engineer going to the wrong place or about making another appointment.
I asked them to contact me on my mobile when they knew something as we were going out. Good job we weren't long out because they contacted us on our landline :mad:
Finally got another appointment sorted - for TWO weeks later. Redonkulous. They came round, surveyed whether we were able to get a meter fitted (we are :j) and they will be back 2nd May. Long slog, but hopefully will get it done sorted (in the mean time we have to get another stop !!!! fitted as ours broke the same day the meter man came. Oops. My Dad is a builder/landscaper and has bartered with a plumber friend of his. Dad'll do the plumber's garden in exchange for a new stop !!!!. That's how the world should work in my opinion - like it used to - bartering. None of this money m'larkey :))

Sorry, rant over, but totally understand what you mean about people not being able to do their jobs properly.
It's amazing how you can contact the same place, asking exactly the same thing, get two different people, and the results be completely different.
Like the helpful man from HMRC who checked my previous tax years and sent me a cheque immediately. Another time and I could still be fighting for MY money.

Hope you get your mortgage sorted soon.
I know someone on here tried to change their mortgage date and was told to do so they'd have to pay on the normal day (your case 23rd) AND again on the new date (2nd), so 2 payments in a space of a week or so. Hopefully that won't be the case for you.

  • Here's the thing. I want to make two payments in quick succession. I get laughable interest on my current account while pay more on my mortgage hence me wanting to change the date. The muppets just don't want to take my money.

MIT, one way we keep the price of our nearly annual cruise is to ask for the price to be reduced by withdrawing the flight element of the package as these are normally to London and, like you, this would mean connections etc. this year we have covered flight for one of us with avios points. If this is something you've over a year to work towards start looking at all the ways to drive the costs down. It's doable.
