  • Have you emerged from under the covers yet? Some days are just like that, even things that are supposed to be fun can seem to be more trouble than they are worth, especially when what you are probably needing is a jolly good lie in.

Hope, if you got there, that all your what if's were unfounded, and that your pleasure in cooking has been revitalised x.

  • Yesterday's class was so good. Got three recipes that will def be made use of and some others that might. Also, the the exception of the standard prat who knew it all, there was a really nice group. Am now considering what the next one I sign up for will be. Still only two out of four items with bids on and they are both quite low. Will be lucky to hit £10 but it's still £10 more than I would otherwise have an 2 en route from the house.

  • Exactly what I was going to say Rainbow!!

Glad you had a fun time at the classes. I love all the ways everyone is trying to manage their money better & this is another one. The only cooking classes I found round my way were for posh nosh that leaves 3/4 of the plate empty, not my cup of tea at all.

    Have a good day :) x

    I third that! ;)

The class sounds lovely, so happy to hear it went well. What other classes are you thinking of doing?
a penny picker upper. MFW approx 78% to go | FIRE 3 years worth (30% savings rate: now aiming for 40%!) | Normality is a paved road; it's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it | Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible | The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library
  • Ok, the cookery classes. I got vouchers that will cover two as a Christmas gift. I'd been talking about taking a class but they are expensive. Some are the poncey things that leave lots of room on the plate but I picked a Saturday bake off. So I learnt how to make cinnamon rolls, the filling for lemon tart (which doubles as lemon curd) and a meringue recipe to transform the tart to a lemon meringue pie. I made a goats cheese loaf which will def be repeated. I also got a recipe for the soup that was served. We were also supposed to learn how to do croissants but this takes 2 days apparently so I just have the recipe. I'm not sure that I'll go for the proper cookery class as they are all themed and I generally only like one or two of the items. I will go for a bread making or another bakery class. However, my next class is the Saturday after next. This is a chocolate making class that was another Christmas present and is being delivered by co couture, a shop that can only be considered MSE as their products are so rich, you can't eat lots of them ;)

So, now onto MSE and other matters. At the minute I'm just being more mindful. This diary has made me accountable so I'm actually looking at what things cost and if I should buy them. I'm also integrating baby steps into everyday. At the minute these are free post code lottery, occasional nectar ad points and maximising vouchers and offers along with Tilly tidies. I also now ask if things are ebay able rather than just shoving in a drawer.

So, generally the theory works well. Then today, got drenched, had dead time between meetings in dublin so wandered into a dpt store where I was pampered by the girl on the make up counter who subsequently relieved me of €16. The purchase can be a gift for someone, it was a travel set and I was just grateful. On the plus side, I topped the gas guzzler up though for some reason, the saving is currently only about 12p a litre but it all helps.

    Anyhow, today imp grateful for

  • And, to provide some amusement. I have a birthday rapidly approaching. You know, that time of year when you start fixating on if you look older or younger than someone who's age you see displayed on tv. For me though, the irony is that for the last year, I've thought that I was a year older than I am so I'd thought the number didn't actually bother me. However, went to buy lunch today and ordered a special. Ok, the guy did look at me quite intently but served me my toastie and cup of tea as requested. It was only as I left that I noticed that it was advertised as a pensioner special.

Even by old style standards, that's taking MSEing too far for a soon to be 46 yr old!

  • LOL! What are you like! How can an assistant handle that one tactfully ... "I can't serve you unless you show me your free bus pass?" I love the sound of the goats cheese loaf.
