  • I think it is very difficult to stay on these forums, for any length of time, and not to question the way one does things.

I just re-read your first post, and your aim for the first couple of months was to crystallise your thinking and set some targets, so you are proceeding exactly as planned.

I am beginning to realise though, that I want to be the best version of me, and that I am not too bothered anymore, if that looks different to other posters. There are lots of different flowers in a garden, and colours in a rainbow. Take your pick x.

When I subscribed to your thread I commented we sound similar, and I still concur! It is easy to get lazy when salaries are good, but chances are the committed outgoings are also high. Sometimes I'm aghast at how small the amounts are in SOA's (meant in a good way!) as everything we pay for seems to be monster sized. But everyone is different, and we all need to find our motivation. Mine is about making life feel easier. So get rid of the debt I have, start overpaying mortgage (tick) but also start investing in our house so home feels like a place I want to be, not a money pit. As for NSDs, I don't get that many, but in my head I count it as one if I don't do any voluntary spending. So doing the weekly food shop or posting a fleabay parcel is allowed, but buying lunch or coffee isn't. Whatever works for you. Have you tried the incentiviser? You are doing well, keep at it. :T

I've stolen your "things I'm grateful for" idea on my diary and made it Highlight of my day. Thanks for the idea. Smelling the roses is not something I'm good at these days! :o

INOD Like I said to skinty on her thread, it is good to have small goals to work towards. Challenging but achievable. You could join a challenge on the forums. Try the PAD (Payment a Day) thread. That is VERY addictive. It was with the help of that thread and the peeps there that I managed to pay off my debt early. There are loads of different challenge threads though. One or more of them might just take your mind off what you think you are not achieving.

  • Have just seen the wisdom of sticking with this site. Have just posted elsewhere that it's as important sometimes to not increase debt as it is to clear it. I've had extra outlay of £500 so far this month and am disheartened that I can't overpay my mortgage as quickly as I want to. I don't just want it all yesterday but would appear to also want jam with it :)

Anyhow, that's the proverbial !!! kicking done. I will be back and tomorrow will be the recap of the past week

  • "The rule is, jam tomorrow and jam yesterday - but never jam today."

Wanting jam yesterday, today and tomorrow is the holy grail, crack the code and we will all follow.

    Looking forward to your recap

  • So, the plan for now is to write a list. It's also to be quite selfish today with regard to getting it cleared. If DD wants an extra half hour in bed pre going to work, she will have to pay for a cab and not expect me to drop everything. It's her choice, she just needs to fund it.
