Spent a couple of hours in town at the weekend with two of my DD's and we had a fab time wandering around the shops and boutiques - was enjoying the time spent with them, trying stuff on,giving each other ideas and I wasn't even tempted to buy anything:T

But then...........was walking with DD's to fitting room in D3b3nhams and the sale rail caught my eye - and one said LBD - crepe material A line dress with full black chiffon sleeves buttoned at the wrist, rouned neckline with tiny pleating at the top a little look of Mary Quant I thought. Anyway fitted like a dream was duly bought for the pricely sum of £12 reduced from £40 - worn out for a impromptu eve that night ( which I spent less than a tenner!)with pair of black flat boots and was a complete success!

So will update my signature in a minute.

Plus all the DD's were round last night to help me properly go through my clothes - they made me realise that hanging onto some stuff in case it ever comes back in fashion is not a good idea:rotfl: Actually they were brutally honest with me with what looks good and not so good on me so I learnt a lot too - I would normally sell on my clothes but since most of it comes from either friends or CS shops I have decided to pass it back to charity( do my bit to help local hospice shop) - so now I have 4 huge bin bags to get rid off but at least I can see what clothes I actually want and will wear.

Keep up the good work everyone:)

  • Oh dear, managed to spend £20 on some shoes. Whoops. Not feeling too guilty though as £20 in three months is a lot less then the £180 I managed to spend in one month last year!

First I cut out buying takeaway coffees, then the bus, then clothes, now I'm working on cutting down food out... Next is my shopping. Does anyone find once they cut down one thing another area seems to get more spent on it?

It can happen like that. That's why I joined the NSD challenge, it makes me think about what I'm spending and i try and organise spends for the same day, that way I have a list together and often realise what I 'need' on one day, I don't really need at all. That said, I must get washing up liquid, the only stash I have is in the loft which I can't get into due to injury at the mo.

£20 on shoes is fine, so long as they'll be worn. :D

I agree! Well done Baibelle. For cutting down on shopping, where do you shop at the moment? If you have a Aldi or Lidl handy they really are your best bet to slash your food bill. There is less choice yes, but that means you aren't tempted with unnecessary spends. I have saved a small fortune since Aldi opened near me 16 months ago. Everything is top quality, and the staff are so pleasant and helpful.

Back on track. Still no buys, but I noticed when doing the ironing that some favourite items are starting to show wear. However, as I work from home, that isn't the tragedy it once would have been. Everything can go at least one more year I think.
I would like to have a couple of long-line tops or tunics - even skater dresses - for the summer as I've been wearing my favourites over jumpers for the winter. They aren't essential though. I am looking forward to having a look in the stores to see what they have.
Apart from buying a coat online and a jumper bought in Select, I haven't been clothes shopping in a clothes store for well over a year! My £150 budget for this year is still intact.

Hey Mcculloch29, right now I'm based really central so I shop at Sainsbury or local shops. I'm moving next week and will be right next to a Lidls and ASDA so should be loads cheaper. Even just buying milk and yoghurt at an ASDA recently was £1 cheaper then where I buy in town!

Everyone is doing so well but not me I'm afraid. I had my outfit for a family event this weekend all worked out, then my DD announced she is wearing the same colour/style and she can't afford to buy anything new.

So rather than telling her and making her feel bad, I went out yesterday with the intention of buying a completely new outfit. However, I found a jacket in a suitable shade to go with the dress I was already going to wear, reduced from £56 to £10. Whilst in the shop I also picked up a pair of black work trousers reduced to £5. Then I needed more tights again and spend lots on those.

Long story short, I've now used over half this years budget before the end of March.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • still no clothes spends yet this month :D only 10 days left of the month :)

  • Hello everyone :) please can I join in at this late stage?
Last year I set myself a ww2 clothes ration challenge, and went over quite a bit!
This year its not helping that after a hysterectomy most of my usual clothes no longer fit! (Everything swells up around my middle every day!)
So, no more than £15 a month for the rest of the year.
    £135 till xmas.
I have loads of shoes. Summer and winter. I just re-soled and heeled my favourite boots (which I've already owned more than 10 years!) so they have alot more life left in them.
My wardrobe is full of pretty dresses which I adore, I have 2 pairs of trousers that still fit!
Workwear is overalls and old shirts and wellies! So that will be a zero spend anyway! (you can see why I like dresses when I'm not working!)
So I shall attempt to NOT buy too many more dresses!!
    Thankyou xx
