So far, so good this month.

I haven't spent any money on clothes in March so far.

It's my birthday on Saturday, and Mr GG has given me a pair of short sleeved pyjamas, which I'm delighted with. Most of my pyjamas are really old, especially my short sleeved ones. I probably will have to buy at least one more pair of pyjamas at some point this year.

All this nice weather turns thoughts to the outdoors. At the end of last summer my gardening trousers ripped across the backside! Basically because they were very old, the fabric was worn thin and they were a bit too tight for me.

I've got nothing old enough that still fits to wear in the garden, so I'm currently watching a cheap pair of trousers on eBay, to buy for gardening. I'll be spending Paypal money, so I won't have to include it in this challenge.

I'm currently doing a mini review of my wardrobe and have pulled out a few things to sell on eBay. I'll take note of the money I earn, and make sure it is used on careful clothes purchases.

I wasn't even tempted to buy anything in the M&S sale that's currently on.

I am a fan of primark pjs, have some that have lasted me for ages , or buy their vest tops for 2.50 and pair up with their bottoms. Also another place you might find some cheap gardening trousers.

I remember being at uni and had a pair of jeans that ripped like yours, I was sat on a chair doing an essay, leaned forward and ' riiiiiiiiiiiiiip' :o they were second hand from Camden market though and I deff got my wear out of them .

Oops about your trousers - at least mine ripped in the privacy of my own home!:rotfl:

    hi everyone

    confession time;
    2 blouses from h and m £16
    1 cardi £ 12
    skirt £7
plus charity shop 2 tops, dress and gilet £12
bloody love them all :D and i'm wearing 1 blouse and cardi today
i've still not got swimsuit or summer shoes - I tried a few on but i'm going to be really fussy

total spend to date £70 which is scary  as budget is £120 for year.
already blown £10 per month budget out of the window.

will need some no spend months to rein it in a bit- aiming for may, june and july as I've now got lots of summery things. also august is my birthday month so will spend birthday money and not count it.
then hopefully I will have enough for a couple of new jumpers/leggings for autumn/winter.

I am wondering now if I've gone too hardcore!

Thank you for the welcome. I went through my wardrobe and took out everything that didn't fit (I lost weight, put some back on, lost some...). Too big - out. Too small but want to get into - put in blanket box in bedroom. So, everything hanging and on shelves now fits. My wardrobe looks great and I open the doors so that I can lie in bed looking at it before I get up - sad, eh?! I now know what I need to buy to get me through the summer (don't want to buy too much because I'm still trying to lose weight): linen trousers - one black and one navy - should go with what I've already got for work. I'm looking forward to regularly dipping into the blanket box to see if anything else fits.

Several people have said this already but it's true - even if you spend too much you're probably spending less than you would have done if you wren't on this thread. Great inspiration on here :)
  • Hi all xxx

Skinty's latest attempt to reinvent wardrobe without spending any cash...
It's nowhere near warm enough to put my jumpers away just yet so have divided up clothes into hot - warm - cool - cold sections. So vest tops and thin tops are at one end, going on to long sleeves, then blouses, then cardis then jumpers - starting with the thinnest down to the snuggliest! Jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses are also in the mix. So just need to see what the weather is like each day and dress accordingly!

It's fun, keeps me on my toes i.e. to keep wearing my clothes (not just same faves) and distracts me from buying clothes!!

Well.......bit of an epic fail on my no spend for March plan. Spent £5.98 on 2 tops from the charity shop (1 x DP's bright floral pattern sleeveless floaty top which is lovely and 1 x Miss Selfridge cream delicate floral print short sleeve shirt which I really love). Am also including an additional £2 spent on a Boden jersey top which has a stain on the arm that won't come out that I hadn't noticed it in the shop so that has gone in the textile recycling pile.

My excuse being that my summer wardrobe is somewhat rubbish and I have only bought things that are a "gap" in my current wardrobe!!

It seems that charity shop purchases are my new vice having only recently discovered a great one local to me.

I am quite shocked how quickly my total is climbing up but it is the first time I have ever kept track of my clothes spending and although I am spending I am learning to give things a lot more thought. Love reading the posts on here as everyone keeps me inspired to keep going.

Realised why I hate half my wardrobe: I'm constantly pinning skater/floaty skirt outfits on pinterest with things like jumper and boots, yet I only own about 3 skirts all of which are bodycon and not the most flattering for my body type. I think in April I might have a good root around sales/charity shops for some spring/summer skirts :)

I'm not a dressy type gal but I love the skater dress look with boots and leggings, it's a bit like wearing a dress...but not, if that makes any sense.

I'm not on commission but primark had some cotton type skater dresses with elbow length sleeves in lots of different patterns for £5 each. I've got two, a black one with little cream flowers, and a black one with big cream polka dots. Must confess to only wearing the former to date but it's been washed twice with no ill effects.

Speaking of which, I bought some lovely floaty shorts from fleabay last week as I seem to own mainly denim shorts. Not tried on yet but they need a little light cami to go with them. Saw a lovely one in topshop for £18, but going to check primark as I'm sure they will have something like that for much less.

  • I would love to join the challenge. I know it's a bit late in the year but it's never too late to start saving more money.
I will set myself £100 until the end of the year
