I don't think you've got the hang of this education thing have you?
To the OP: I think it depends on what type of jobs you are applying for. In jobs related to science there is such a shortage that some employers are recruiting at lower grades. You may have to start on a slightly lower salary, but it's a foot in the door.
I do get education, but it makes me so mad that uni has been nothing more than hell for me and no matter how much I have struggled it has never been fun or successful.:beer:0 -

Maybe if people did not make stupid assumptions about anyone with less than a 2.1 then life might be a whole lot better.
Saying stuff like less than a 2.1 you are slack, drunk, always absent, thick and generally a waster is complete rubbish filled assumptions that just serve to make people feel mad and upset and does nothing to help employers value their success.
But the differance is between the civil service and industry is if you get into either and start off on 12K say, but in one you can go for an easy assesment centre and theyll give you the next band up in the other they wont give you that chance.0 -

well phil - you can that i'm wrong, but that is how the committees work. they look at you if you are borderline and may give you the benefit of the doubt. you simply cannot quantify how much any particular circumstances are worth on a %age basis - how on earth to do you suggest that this is done on an individual basis? you can 8%, but you can only have 6%?!studentphil wrote: »special circs does not mean you get a certain entitlement to an increased percentage.- that is wong, if exams are physically painful to sit then most certainly you should get some up marking. If you get no support in assessments you should get up marked. Very few examiners ever had problems or special cirs at uni, so they have no clue to be saying what is and what is not worthy of upmarking.

please leave this thread alone for the OP - we've had plenty of your own threads ranting about this apparently really unfair system, so have the courtesy not to hijack this one (yet again).:happyhear0 -

Well maybe Uni just wasn't the right thing for you Phil. It's not for everyone. Some people have different (equally valid) skills
But the OP is in an entirely different situation from you and I don't think your whinging really helps him/her. So shall we get back to letting people give appropriate advice?0 -

Could that possibly be down to your attitude of when it doesn't go your way 'kick up a stink'?0 -

To apply for a graduate job with the civil service you need a degree 2:2 or above, i didnt say once that you cannot work your way up from the bottom
I though that was this post was all about, the fact the third degree may not be good enough to get most graduate jobs. "Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
right can i ask that no one replies to any more of SP's posts and then we can try to get this back on song; RE: OP's options with a 3rd.

Some times its all about how disaplined you are and how motivated you wish to be.
My best friend was killed in a car accident at the end of the first year, though i wasnt disrespectful enough to blame this on my low grades as i knew i hadnt put the work in.
When i split from GF at the end of my second year i was an emotional mess and struggled with the emotional burden, had i still been with her i may well have got better marks but only due to the fact se would have helped and encouraged me (and vice versa). I refuse to blame my 3rd degree on anything else but over indulgance in the social life and feeling i had to go out in case i missed something.
Maybe i regret not doing the work and getting such a low degree, but i had a great time and have done alright since and anyway its too late now!!
You have to forge your own path!!"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
I ended up with a 2:2 and should have got higher but you give to get as always. I "gave" my higher grade away because in the first year I went to the theatre too much, 2nd year I was training part time at another theatre school, 3rd year I spent way too much time with my boyfriend.
I got a 2:2 but what did I get for what I gave? A solid grounding in theatre, excellent skills I use all the time AND my future husband. So no regrets for me as my future husband outlasted my degree and it's usefulness!
