I got some gardening implements from my mum. A bit cheesed off because hubby got £50 in Lakeland vouchers from her.

OH bought me a car stereo. Obviously not an awful gift, just not something I would ever have picked. I'm in my car for about ten mins a day and perfectly happy listening to radio. Not sure why OH thought I needed a fancy digital radio in there.

Can anyone suggest a use for the magnetic tax disc holder I was given this year now we don't need tax discs?

A coaster? Or stick a funny picture or tedious 'spiritual message' on one side and give it away as "a bespoke fridge-magnet". ;)

Grow some turnips with your implements, then make some foul broth from them which she has to eat when she visits at the end of this summer. A long game, but ultimately satisfying, hehehe :D

I have coeliac disease and therefore need to follow a gluten free diet, yet one of my colleagues bought me some ferrero rochers and said to me as she gave them to me "sorry I heard they aren't gluten free". Another colleague gave me some chocolate dipper/marshmallow things for using with hot chocolate etc and they clearly state "contains gluten" on packaging. My dad gave me a box of chocolates which he obviously went to great lengths to find a nice box of gluten free truffles unfortunately they are all alcoholic/coffee filled which I can't stomach. DH is delighted.

I also got a lot of "generic" gifts like talcum powder, incense burner thing, one of those clip bag things that "expands", can't imagine when I'm ever going to use them so have already given talcum powder to my MIL. Also lots and lots of sets of toiletries. I won't need to buy moisturising lotion for another few years and my shower gel collection which was finally starting to deplete has been well and truly topped up.

ohhh... My MIL got me the doozy of all naff and awful presents this year LOL!

Now i don't want to sound like a snob BUT my decor in my house is calm, neutral colours (eathy tones and all that LOL) and my living room is white with pale sage green accents - i like country style/shabby chic and vintage.

So what possessed her to think that something similar to the monstrosity in the link below would be nice in my living room, don't know!!! The actual one is twice the size (would fill a fireplace) and is neon pink with tall black spikey bits - and yes, it has flashing lights. (Sorry if this offends anyone who has one, lol!)

I wouldn't mind so much but she asked my hubby what i would like - and i suggested a Lush gift set. So i went over expecting my lovely smellies and got that. And then hubby, when we got home, was like "u dont like it, do you" and then i felt so bad and now i have it on display. :(

The photo wasn't loading, managed to copy & paste the description - in my haste nearly purchased the thing! It is hideous!

    http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/11540658.Police_come_up_with_imaginative_new_use_for_tax_disc_holder/?ref=mr

POLICE have dreamt up a new use for the licence disc holders that every car carries on its windscreen - one which could save lives.
The switch from paper tax discs for cars to the new electronic version has meant that the familiar transparent plastic envelopes have become obsolete - but PC Dave Wise and colleagues have thought up a new use for them.
They have come up with an emergency contact information and medical alert card.
PC Wise said: "This is a really useful replacement for your tax disc. if a driver is involved in a collision or has a medical emergency whilst at the wheel, a first responder will have easy access to vital medical information and we can quickly contact next of kin.
"The way the disc folds in on itself means all the information is kept private until needed by emergency services personnel."
The policing team, based in Malvern, Worcestershire, put the template for the form on their Twitter account, @MalvernCops.
It can be easily printed out, cut out, filled in, folded up and placed in the holder.
"We will be linking in with local ambulance and fire commanders to make them aware of this initiative so they can be on the lookout for these emergency contact discs," said PC Wise.

I wouldn't mind, but boxes of non broken biscuits can be bought quite cheaply in most supermarkets. Anyway, I felt quite insulted & biscuits went straight into the bin.

I'm so glad you posted this, that's exactly what I did with the blue (never wear blue) sequinned (totally not a sequins sort of person) Primark clutch bag (never go anywhere to carry a clutch bag) that I was given.

I've a feeling it wasn't new either as it had no tag and no padding. I really should have donated it to the charity shop but dumping it in bin just felt so *right*.
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10
  • I was really pleased with all my pressies this year.

However last year my mother in law bought me a bath set. It had bubble bath and those little squares things of packed powder that melt in the bath - lavendar - yuk!

This despite the fact that she knows noone in our house ever uses the bath, we all shower.

In case you're wondering how she knew that, our new bathroom was put in 3 months prior to Christmas and she was with us at the showroom when we debated about whether to put the bath in or not but we decided we would in case we ever sell.

For what it's worth, I regret the bath decision, it's just something else to wash down. Seriously, where does all the dust in a bathroom come from??
