Disappointing/weird/inappropriate christmas gifts

Something actually for me rather than my sister....
Scarves. I love scarves, I have a lot of them in all different colours/styles, but I always buy high quality as I'm a stickler for posh scarves. I've always got a scarf on, and OH family noticed this, so now I get multitudes of ugly, cheap scarves each birthday and christmas. They have memories like elephants too, and so I need to make sure I'm wearing the scarf they bought me each time I see them for months after I've received it.
Our downstairs cupboard was just a general storeroom, but now it's more of a scarf dungeon or graveyard, where I can keep them just in case someone brings up the subject of one of them!0

to be honest, if someone had given me a list to buy from and told me not to stick to it I would have bought them something different!! luckily I tend to put a lot of thought into what a person would like rather than buying them something I like and think they might like.
While I appreciate that you are a chef/cook/caterer and know how to make soup, a lot of famous chefs will openly admit to not only owning several different cookbooks but will refer back to them from time to time – mainly for inspiration! Im sure the person who bought you the book wasn’t trying to insult your knowledge.0

We don't do presents; we stopped it from necessity several years ago when DH was out of work, and have carefully never restarted.
But, many years ago, when I was still married to the Ex - He'd been out drinking, and bought, while still "under the influence", a HUGE bottle of the vilest. stinkiest perfume I have ever come across. It was eye-watering. Think Tom Cat Pee with a hint of Sulphuric Acid. The worst of it was - he insisted I wear the damned stuff - he'd stand over me while I applied it.:( Gods know what people thought I'd been bathing in......:eek::eek:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I was really happy with nearly all of my gifts, even my cow onesie which I have grown fond of but the oddest one was from dad - a large glass Cockerel filled with chilli peppers. I have not the foggiest what to do with it, if anything other than let it spend a few months on view and conveniently disappear...I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Yes I understand this I really do but this person knows me so well better than I know myself sometimes and also knows the extent of my recipe book collection...... she said to me before she gave me the present you prob not gonna like this one and she admitted to me afterwards that she had got the recipe book ages ago and was gonna give it to someone else but at the last minute decided to give it to me?????
Oh Ok Thank you then for the afterthought then? so I asked her why and she said she didn't really know... but is most likely because she wanted to bulk out my presents....... so it looked like a lot.... unfortunately this was the main problem! .... 1 thoughtful present is worth a damn side more than 100 presents bought just for the sake of buying someone something and if people think I'm being unappreciative then so be it....... but I never demanded or expected any presents people asked me what I wanted and I told them....... there was no need to go over and above what they had giving me that was entirely their choice! But I then I'm critisized because didn't like/didnt want it the mind boggles:eek:LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT 0 0

I am more of a boyish type of girl who wears jeans, shirt, sneakers when going out. I adore bags (the girly side of me), but other than that, I am really boyish - not a tomboy but just boyish - some friends say I am pretty and oh, I have a guy partner for 11 years already.
Odd thing, my aunt who knows me very well (since I lived with her together with my grandparents) gave me a super red L'oreal lipstick. When I opened my present, I was like "what the..." then I thought what should I do with a lipstick since I never wear one (maybe at prom yeah, but in real life, even going to the office I never put on a lipstick).
As of now, the valuable present is still inside my closet drawer - I don't know if this will melt down or what. I don't want to give the item to other people coz my aunt might find out about it and might become an issue.0

These are brilliant, I'm actually feeling a bit left out as I've never received awful or inappropriate gifts, apart from the nipple tassels I got for a secret Santa one year :rotfl:
I thought it was hilarious when I opened the present, unlike another colleague who got the same thing & was appalled & didn't see the funny side do it at all, at least not in public but who knew what she did with them when she got home
As for lists, my DH isn't always the best at choosing & my face has given away the fact I've been a bit disappointed with his gift, so for the last few years we've gone to several shops, or just the one if I've asked for a new handbag, I've chosen 3 or 4 and said any one of those I would love & I've left the shop. Done this with jewellery too and I haven't been disappointed on my birthday or Xmas day, works for us 0 0
