That sounds like Boots buy 2 get 1 free car mouse (one of never ending Boots generic presents for everyone which no-one really wants range). It was £10 reduced to £5 in the sale and part of the 3 for 2.

    Love it!! :rotfl:

I think I did get something else for Christmas as well as the liquitabs but I think it was something equally useful. That is just the way my son ticks. He has a very practical nature and his logic is to buy useful things.

A bottle of fabric softener to go with the liquitabs? :rotfl:

He probably but the ones with fabric softener in them already if he's that practical :rotfl:

I think it was that one! The funny thing is that we both work as software developers so it's not like we're lacking in the technology department... sort of like buying a supermarket-own-brand kitchen knife for a professional chef.

"generic presents for everyone which no-one really wants" - the perfect way to describe them! I really do loathe presents like that. Some of them can be quite nice, but everyone knows what they are the second they see one, and it just screams of "I had zero idea what to get you so just picked up the first thing I saw on special offer". It's almost rude, in a way, when you give those to people you're supposed to know well, like your own grown-up children. If they really can't be bothered, I'd rather they just say, let's not do presents this year.

  • my poor husband gets a new jumper every christmas from his mother which is usually vile. The sad thing is he would be totally happy with a book token. MIL is usually the purchaser of naff gifts. She likes to give a big bag of goodies but doesnt have much money. We have tried to say we dont want anything but she still insists. Ive tried taking the jumpers back in the past but they are generally several years old!

I keep being giving leather gloves, which I hate as Im a vegetarian and diabetic chocolates which give you the runs!

I quite like the Boots gifts :) There's quite a selection, so it's not as if the person just picks up any old thing on 3 for 2 ... they have a choice of brands and type of present. This year I've bought 6 things from there (out of 40 people to buy for, so it's not as if I just randomly chose the first thing I saw for everyone on my list) and the 6th thing I kept for myself.

I sometimes buy things in the sale after christmas for myself from Boots too. The 'cute or what' range is cute and some people like the 'gawjuss' (?) range (I don't know how to spell it, but it's old fashioned type pictures of little girls).

I think we have the same MIL. Bags and bags of presents, usually one or two decent things and then a load of tat or very random items.

My in laws got us two bottles of room freshener spray, for the second year in a row (amongst other things). I do wonder if they are trying to tell us gently that our house smells. One of the flavours this year is banana(?!), so can't imagine this would ever improve things!

Can anyone think of an alternative use, as we don't use them as intended, and are now growing a collection..

  • Beat this - from someone who comes to us for christmas dinner - usually very odd presents but this years is a doozy - I slowly unwrapped a sundae spoon. A packet of straws. A mini torch and 2 mini flan tins!!!!
( one year he gave me the top of a banister - we burnt it this year - so it was useful in the end)
