One of the first Christmas's I was with my husband he got me Ferrero Rocher when I hate the taste of nuts, huge dodgy Pat Butcher style ear rings when I'm a bit of a hippy with style with jewellery, cheap perfume but I'm allergic to most smellies and a box file. Think he was just desperate and in his defence he hadn't bought any one any kind a present for a decade before this.
After 10 years he still hasn't perfected it, I help him a lot with presents but still some how he takes things to extremes. I like Festive Friends biscuits, so he bought me 5 boxes. This is great for someone that is trying to get their BMI down to go on an IVF list hopefully. The biscuits were coupled with 2 chocolate oranges as well.
Oh one year when I was 16 I got one of those touch lamps from my friend's nan. The ones with the flowery painted domed lamp shades.Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0 -
One year my OH (amongst other things) ended up with a dressing gown, slippers and an electric blanket (blanket was my doing but in my defense he said he wanted one, and it was expensive AND he used it)...he still refers to it as his grandad christmas

DH, who doesn't drink hot drinks and never has, routinely gets mugs. This year he got a computer mouse in the shape of a car (because apparently he's five?), along with the Amazon voucher he asked for.

That sounds like Boots buy 2 get 1 free car mouse (one of never ending Boots generic presents for everyone which no-one really wants range). It was £10 reduced to £5 in the sale and part of the 3 for 2.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
I actually like a lot of the Boots 2 for 1 presents! I like buying bits and bobs in there to go with people's main presents....and then I get the 3rd one for myself! :rotfl: I think my SIL had the same idea as I got a Laura Ashley gift set (along with my horrible top!) which is actually quite cool.
I like putting a lot of bought into buying things people will actually want and use. We got the SIL a kit with all these little tools for her cheese from Boots as she loves her cheese, grapes and port!
I like stocking up on the gifts when they go half price after Christmas, not for the following year, but for myself.0 -

Its a rock and roll life isn't it?!?!“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -
It must have been the year for Meat Thermometers because I got one too. I was very pleased with mine and have already used it. I was a bit wary though, when my son said he had bought me a useful present. The last useful present he bought me was a pack of liquitabs when he first went to uni. He decided they were awesome and I should have some.:rotfl:0

Were the liquitabs for you to use when he bought his washing home? :rotfl:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

A colleague of mine was given a bag of almonds by elderly patient, after Christmas my friend told the elderly lady how much she and her family had enjoyed them.
The elderly lady then went on to say that her family bought her chocolate almonds all year but as her teeth weren't strong she sucked the chocolate off and put the almonds into bags for all her friends at Christmas!
Friend nearly vomited!
Watched the Mrs Browns Boys xmas special yesterday and very similar to this happened on there with the grandad! Made me think of this post haha!DFW LBM 21/12/13 - Family 0/2500, CU 44/??, BT 0/308.90, EE, 0/126.54, Jacamo 0/62, Virgin 0/??Sealed Pot Challenge 7 #322

Quite possibly because I always get mountains of washing when the three of them come home from university. To be fair though washing it isn't an issue for them but drying it is sometimes a problem.
I think I did get something else for Christmas as well as the liquitabs but I think it was something equally useful. That is just the way my son ticks. He has a very practical nature and his logic is to buy useful things.0
