Disappointing/weird/inappropriate christmas gifts

In the past we've received cushioned lap-trays, driveway clearing salts (don't have a driveway!!!!!!) and a reed diffuser set which stunk to high heaven, all from the same close family member.....We always say thank-you though, despite wondering 'what on earth...???!'.0

This has to be one of the funniest and most entertaining discussion threads I have ever read, a big thank you to everyone who has contributed, brightened up my morning and given me a big chuckle! Could never have imagined some of the gruesome specimens listed on here and far outdoes my present of a bog brush many years ago to my Ex (I wonder why, ha ha?!) :rotfl: May you all get what you really want next year!0

My out-laws gave us, as a family, a huge picture of kittens in a basket. Which would be fine, if completely random, but it also moves; it is one of those freaky hologram pictures.
The OH left it propped up on the dining room table. As I walked through the room on my way to the kitchen, the little kitten's heads flicked round, constantly watching.
It is now in the garage, waiting any freecycler brave enough to take it on.
My Mum got given one of these, except it was a beagle with a hat on...this is also waiting a suitable alternative home...0 -
I don't drink much these days but had lots of alcohol related gifts and they are awesome as an ingredient.
A spag bol is transformed from a meal to a feast with a good glug of red wine, and Prawns in Vodka is delicious.0 -

Now i don't want to sound like a snob BUT my decor in my house is calm, neutral colours (eathy tones and all that LOL) and my living room is white with pale sage green accents - i like country style/shabby chic and vintage.
So what possessed her to think that something similar to the monstrosity in the link below would be nice in my living room, don't know!!! The actual one is twice the size (would fill a fireplace) and is neon pink with tall black spikey bits - and yes, it has flashing lights. (Sorry if this offends anyone who has one, lol!)
I wouldn't mind so much but she asked my hubby what i would like - and i suggested a Lush gift set. So i went over expecting my lovely smellies and got that. And then hubby, when we got home, was like "u dont like it, do you" and then i felt so bad and now i have it on display.

Oh my God!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is hideous.:eek::eek::eek: I wouldn't display that in my home, no way, so you're a saint. :rotfl: Have you admitted to your OH yet that you hate it?
I got no tacky presents this year at all. I used to get REALLY crap presents from my not-very-nice MIL, but I never will again since she's now my ex-MIL!
Life is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A
Never regret something that once made you smile :A0 -

And I can't give it back to her - she "loved it so much", she bought herself one. "A bigger one which is red, silver and black." *shudder*
Oh you poor thing. I too have been given some really beautiful items which I treasured so much I wanted to keep them really really clean but, oh dear, clumsy me, I dropped them while washing/polishing/dusting and they broke beyond repair. Awwww. [ Fortunately, no-one has yet bought a replacement.]0 -
I took my horrible top (off BIL & SIL) today, got money put on a gift card no problem.
I'd usually regift items I don't like, but my Mam and MIL aren't the same size as me, so rather than it getting shoved away in a draw never to be seen again, this way, I can buy myself something nice and that I'll use and their money hasn't gone to waste.0 -
This year my OH bought me a meat cleaver. It's a really good brand, and quite expensive. When I asked him why he bought it (I've never expressed a need for a meat cleaver) he said he'd always wanted one!0

Wasn't mine, but I did laugh. My sister is a particularly greedy, money-centered person and Christmas is the time of year where she rubs her hand in glee at all the free stuff she'll get, whilst totting up how much each person must've spent and then judging them accordingly.
She has been banging on constantly about doing supposed charity work, like runs or mountain climbing etc, but hasn't actually done anything and I would be very surprised if she ever, ever did anything.
Christmas Day, open a card from a relative who often is very generous, me and OH get giftcard for wine, over the moon. She opens hers and there is a note inside saying said relative has donated all my sister's christmas money to the charity she has talked about running/climbing for. I thought she was going to cry.0 -
I received a USB hub !!! cup warmer which I'm pleased with but not all my cups will fit in it.0
