loobylou2 hope you are feeling better. I can recommend counselling, used my doctor's service a couple of times and had help early last year from local Compassion in Action group.

If everything and everyone depends on you (and it sounds like they do in your case) it is really important to take care of yourself. It isn't selfish or indulgent, IT'S NECESSARY. If you collapse then who looks after your children.

I would suggest trying to do some tidying/ de-cluttering with the children - make it into a game (have separate boxes and see who can find 3 books - all into one box/ finding all the pots and cups to wash up) but if you are really ill putting a video on and huddling on the couch (all in one place so you can keep an eye on them) with a quilt and a warm drink is fine.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

loobylou2 Mothernerd is right please look after yourself and try and rest if you can.
I would also recommend counselling 100% It helped me so much more than I thought possible and puts a lot of things into perspective.
I had to go private as the waiting lists though the Doctors was so long but it was worth every penny I paid.
If you can get it though your work go for it asap. The sooner you start the better.

I am thinking of you as I know if you feel like I did and by the sound of it you do.
Its not a good place to be but trust me it will get better :)

  • Helloo everybody! I have not been getting it done for a few weeks now, but have just written a snag list for the house (35 items - gulp). I thought if I chose a few each week I might get somewhere with them. I have a bit of a deadline of early April for some of the jobs, as we are renting our house out for a week then, and I'd like some of the more visible snags to be dealt with! So, working Sat to Sat, this is this weeks list:

    1. Advertise sofa and chest (ebay, facebook)
    2. Clean mildewy area in lounge
    3. Check airbricks are not blocked - front and back
    4. Sort out boiler service plan and book service
    5. 2 more boxes from loft to sort out
    6. Tidy cupboard in lounge
    7. Tidy and file things in bureau
    8. Try bleach on the mildewy grouting in the bathroom
    9. Take shower apart and clean it
    10. Order and put up spice rack
    11. Order blackout curtains if voucher proves good value for money
    12. Make arrangements for gardening friend to come and stay so they can advise
    13. Chase up roofing quote
    14. re-book opticians appts for DD and I
    15. get to grips with energy tarrifs
    16. get to grips with balance transfer optimum dates
    17. bit of TLC - nails, hair masque, eyebrows, long soak in bath!
    18. keep on top of ironing - 2 lots of bedding for guests to do
    19. exercise - gym or run x 1
    20. cycle to work x 3
Bit of a mixed bag there! Good luck everyone in your getting it done endeavors! x

Self-care going well -will continue (did nearly 5 hours walking on Wednesday-not continuously and had lost 6lb in the last 4 weeks when I checked in with the health trainer (now 14st 1lb, Dec 2012 17st 10lb).

Bin filling going well - set a target of 150 items de-cluttered by end of month (Friday) 111 by last night (counting 1full bin bag/1 wastepaper bin of recyclables as one item) but many other things gone as well including DS1 + 2 roomfuls of stuff -still waiting for him to collect the last few boxes, may have to threaten to put them in the shed -it leaks because he stopped part way through fixing it and never went back to finish the job.

Done 1/3 of the front paving - ran out of cleaner. Only £1 so will do the rest. Much easier than re-laying the flags if I can make it look presentable.

Bought ceiling paint and done cracks in his ceiling yesterday (+ 2 of his walls with paint leftover from downstairs). Gf is staying for the weekend so can't continue until Tuesday.

Written jobs lists for bathroom and bedrooms (master list + list to be stuck up in each room. Door handle has been off the bathroom for so long I forgot to put it on (better to re-paint door first anyway). In addition to painting have anti-moulded in the bathroom, dusted the ceiling (black spots in the textured ceiling were spider's web remnants), cleaned the light shade (asked DS3 to do it ages ago as he doesn't need a ladder) cleaned all the tiles and spent ages rubbing the rusty spots on the shower rail with tin foil -then had to clean the bath as it was peppered with silver sprinkles (think I am winning, been up again to-day and caked it in astonish cleaner - just keep thinking £150 ifI have to buy a new one). Also wondered why I was dozing off every 5 mins today and then thought 5 hours up a ladder.

    Nearly everything done so
Job List for Week commencing Sunday 23rd February

    Continue self-care + grooming.

Paint cracks then whole of ceiling in two large bedrooms (any remains can be used in bathroom or small bedroom but the can be done with any leftover paint.

Use up downstairs paint in DS3's room. Put curtains back (1 of walls needing painting is the window wall) and put headboard together (stop him wrecking the newly painted wall)

Use blue paint for re-touching in other large bedroom. Rub down polyfilla (done today) and finish off.Hang heart shape with mirror.

Continue sanding in bathroom and make a start on the floors (sander brought back from DS2's).

Set food and travel budgets for March. Finish stock take of freezer (3 drawers filled with cooking done this week -want to use up 'odd' bits).
List paint to be bought in March (using up what we have this week -several sums of money due/expected but no idea when they will come in so am getting on with jobs using available materials).

Reach de-clutter target - focus on paperwork, re-purposing (mushroom boxes filled and set off seeds, cardboard covering veg beds to stop weed growth) and selling/donating -stop hanging on to it.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.
