Very sorry to hear of your loss his missus, I lost my mum a few months ago, and it is hard to lose a loved one. :( so sending huge ((hugs)).

Apologies for not posting for over a week, I have had flu and its really wiped me out. But I'm back now, although all exercise days have gone out of the window for the month, but there have been more NSDs as I couldn't get out of bed!
So I went to Ald1 for the first time and I have to say I was very impressed. Fruit and veg were far cheaper than Mr M (even counting the staff discount that I get) and I got a lot for my 52 quid! So will definitely be going back! It was great for things for the kids lunch boxes too, so done more disambiguating this month, and I thought i was already quite tight on this. I will still have to do a Mr M shop too, but I'm going to try and limit this to once a month, and shop at Ald1 the rest of the time. Meat was about the same price, so will stick to Mr M for that so it will work out cheaper with the staff discount. I reckon saved about 15 quid altogether. So pleased!

Not sure of totals at the moment, will work out and update later.

Sounds like everyone has been working hard!
    mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊

His missus – so sorry to hear about your Dad

Clippy_girl – glad to hear your moggy is OK

Moomin – what a distinguished chap your cat is with his cute moustache

I was expecting a SFD yesterday but I forgot to defrost something for tea last night and after dropping something off at a friends DH decided he wanted a kebab so I lost a SFD and spent almost £6 on it! There seems to be a £1 missing from the change (DH) so I will count it as £7 and I have also realised that I may not have added the £4 he spent on one last week so my food total is now £127 spent out of £130 budget with 15 days to go. I think I will probably need to spend another £50 before the end of the month as we eat so much fruit and will also need dog food and some bits for lunch. This wills till be the lowest amount I have ever spent on food in a month.

I am exercising tonight but the class is really late on but has been paid for up front so I will have to go, no excuses. I could have had a SFD but I will have to pay 20p for a locker token and I need diesel.

I have finally come to a decision about my hair cut and colour. I pay an awful lot of money to get it cut and coloured by a top city centre stylist and, although it looks great, I have been unhappy with the cost for some time. I have asked my friend who goes locally where she goes as her hair always looks nice and I am going to make an appointment for there and cancel my hair appointment at the expensive place. It will save me over £60 a calendar month which can go in the redundancy savings pot.

I have only had my hair cut by 2 other people (in the same salon) in the last 3 years. The first time I cried my eyes out as it was a disaster (it was only supposed to be a trim) and the second time was fine so I am brave going elsewhere but the money saved will make it worthwhile.

DH had toast this morning and made it himself, I just stuck the bread in the toaster as I was doing a bagel for myself to take to work. I also gave him aldeee’s version of mooler rice and he loved it so have made my own with a tin of rice pudding and lemon curd today.

After today I will be on:

    SFD 7/20
    Food £127/£130
Diesel £80/£100 as I need to put £30 in today
    Fun £55/£40
    Brand 5/5
    LTW 9/22
    Exercise 7/10
    Beauty 0/10
    Food bank 0/3
    A/free 12/31
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75
  • Hi all

Mrs GSR - no waitrose near me I'm afraid but a good tip for anyone who does. Thanks for the thought - I hadn't heard of this before.

Hismissus - so sorry about your Dad. Big hugs to you and yours.

Signed up to the 3 month delivery scheme at Asda. It's £15 for as many deliveries as you like, when you like, min £40 spend. I like asda and they have some good own brand/smart price stuff but it is a bit of a drive for me so thought I'd give it a go.

Anyway had a delivery today, just over £80 for loads. Stocked up on cat food and coffee as it was on offer and got quite a bit of baking stuff including chocolate :) Was going to go to Lidl to buy tins but got them in asda instead. Fruit and veg all look good and subs were fine and price matched. It came out about £10 cheaper overall than the other big 3 on mysupermarket. Will update figures shortly.

I am sorting out my Avon accounts today as I have to do a tax return  did one last year but had only just started up and made a £5 loss! This year there will be a bit more to it. Haven't done any filing for ages so I expect it will take me all day!

Just having a coffee with the rats In the conservatory so they can have a run around, they haven't had as much time out these past few weeks as it is so cold in there in the evening even with the fan heater on. It isn't to bad in the day esp if the sun is out.

Made veggie chilli last night for tea and there is enough left for another meal probably tomorrow. Popped to tesco express last night for beer :o and got some yellow sticker veg so will be making soup and a 'gravy dinner' today. Oh and I got a pack of chicken legs, thighs and drumsticks which is huge from asda for £5. And it is the butchers selection rather than the smart price (which I won't buy for meat). Does anyone know how I could make a marinade for some of this? I am veggie so have no idea but DS likes sticky chicken/piri piri chicken/Chinese chicken wings etc where he can pick up and bite and there is some extra flavour. Not really sure where to start! I am going to split the pack and freeze some :)

    Right time to crack on.

Can't wait for OH's lightbulb moment. Today should've been an SFD but he asked if I could stick a few quid of fuel in the car (theoretically, fair enough, he's given me a couple of lifts to work and will do so more often now that cycling gets tricky). He said it's because he'll be skint till Saturday. So I got quit upset and he asked what's wrong and I mentioned the £250 I gave/part lent him over the last 2 weeks....oh, some unexpected spends (his snowboard needed new straps, maybe the complete set of bindings, despite being part paid by vouchers, should've maybe waited) and trips (to where?). This money was meant to tie him over to payday on essentials because he overspend in December. He just doesn't get it. Ok he learnt and changed a lot in recent years, but sometimes...........I feel like I'm the only one making sacrifices, not spending anything on me, just food and the bills and saving for the wedding so we don't have to borrow any or the least amount. He's been telling me for the last few months, I'll start saving towards the wedding soon too, yeah right. He's probably maxed out his OD again too after that being cleared last year by PPI money. He only has to pay for lunch, bit of tabacco, a few pints maybe and petrol out of his spending money. Argghhh, sorry rant over, there are bigger problems in the world.

Diet is going well :) Just need to make sure I stick at it. I am loosely following The Skinny Rules (no carbs after 2pm, one treat meal a week, lots of fruit and veg and protein, no chocolate etc) and have lost 8lbs in just under 3 weeks.

Well done, thats great!! Is that the book by Bob Harper from The Biggest Loser US?! I LOVE HIM! And Jillian Michaels! I have some of her DVDs :) (just need to actually DO them)

I'm just about to start The Harcombe Diet which is meat/fish/salad/veg/eggs/natural live greek yoghurt for the first week or so then you can introduce grains and potatoes in small amounts but not eating them with protein, so you can eat carbs and veg or protein and veg but not carbs and protein in the same meal! Sounds like a load of big hairy snowballs but my friend swears by it and lost her excess weight doing it so I'll give it a bash, want to lose 30lbs!

    Anyhoo, I digress! (Sorry)

i know EXACTLY how you feel because my DH is being the same.
Not opening bank statements, frivalous spending while I am working so hard on our joint account. What gets me is he moans about having no money but is always buying just random stuff! Still nothing I can do till he has an LBM and then i will help sort out a plan for him.

I do a super simple marinade for pork ribs or chicken, just mix ketchup with honey and chilli powder, spoon over, leave it then bake it with it all still in the dish.

I have just been into town to the bank and called at Sainsburys, I managed to get 16 lemon & raisin pancakes, 6 50/50 teacakes, 6 English muffins and a fruit loaf for £1.90, they do the YS quite early and carry on through the day at our store.

Not a SFD but that's OK.

    SFDs: 10/20 (I think)
    Food budget: £152/£240
    Lunch: £1/£5
    Brand downshift: 0/5
    Foodbank: £0/£3
    Exercise sessions: 4/15
    Social: 0/2

Not a SFD as I had to buy shoes and tights for tomorrow. I'm going to wear dad's fave American Footy jacket as I don't own a black jacket or coat! Just a rather tatty, cat-pulled black cardi.

Clippy, you can buy anti hairball treats (whiskas I think) not as effective as the paste but easier to give to kitties x

Thank you for all your thoughts xxx
