thriftylass, the way I always look at things like that is I think about the future. How will I feel in 5 or 10 years time. Will you still be happy with your decision or would you regret it.
As my Mum always says... you don't go to the funeral for the dead, you go to support the living.
I think you are right to speak to your mum and see what she says, she may want you to be there to support her.
Sorry if I am interfering.

Spend day planned:
I'm withdrawing all my bus fare money/tea fund for the month and am going to the cinema after work. Normally that's free, but we're seeing a 3D film so I have a small supplement to pay. My friend is bringing the 3D glasses though
Ended up as quite a spendy day as I spent about £8 on not a lot as well as my bus/tea fund
Today is also a spend day - I need to get the first food shop of my pay month done, so will end up spending at least £50 by my count. From a budget of £200 that's a good chunk of it, so I've done a comprehensive shopping list and hopefully won't need to spend big for the rest of the month - just fresh things, milk/bread.
I've looked at my plans for the rest of the month and will be spending quite a few times (planned things such as dinner out/the dentist) so won't hit the target of 20. My revised target is 16 and hopefully I will manage that one. That's good for my first month of this challenge and will be more NSDs than I've ever managed in a month before0 -
Morning all,
Been missing fora while. These full time hours are kicking in! Proud of the little fella for adjusting to getting up a lot earlier
Sending hugs and well wishes to all those that need them right now :grouphug:
Thriftylass, I too think if you could, just be there as support for your mum, but I know it must be difficult.
I have not really spent anything this month so far. I have been power walking everyday for approx 25 minutes, so pleased with that
Well i'm very glad it's the weekend and I too cannot wait till payday! I'm annoyed with MBNA  They have an awful pay cycle. I made a payment on new years day, not long after i'd paid my december payment. This is inline with the pay debts first rule. Well, they keep on still requesting payment for the same month a few weeks later whenever i do this  Most cards, treat it as you have already paid, by the time your statement comes. So I have to pay twice. From now on, I will only pay them a week before, as it's messing up my expenditure (well even more reason to get rid)
Well have a good day everyone and keep going :T:A Your Always in my heart, you never ever will be forgotten-9/9/14:heart2:0 -
i used to have that with natwest traveller
min payment due 19th and statement produced 25th. i got my lodgers rent on 20th so my payment went into no mans land!
not updated for a few days. had an amazing 3.4lbs loss this week on the scales despite a few naughty days of not following skinny rules and less exercise than usual
pay day yest and had £41.15 left of my fun budget and £15.37 left of food budget
will put fun money towards trainers and save left over food budget in money bag so i can use it if im a bit short or want to stock up on stuff. have put my food budget back to £100pm.
debt acc currently at £365 but need to use £165 for tax bill and £200 for holiday deposit so really at zero. however will get rent of £340 on monday and hopeful for £160 of payments from ms before end of month so planning a £500 payment to dad on 31st (or more if i have more).
next month will be looking at about £650 payment all being well :j
up to 10 sfd so far but today will be a spendy dayneed to get trainers (have £130 put away from fun and weekend away fund), need to get new slipper boots as mine are worn out (going to go to boots as they had some lovely ones last week but as 70% sale now they may have gone)- will use fun money. also going to go and check out the wholefood shop ive been recommended to look for bulk nuts and price up other stuff like quinoa. may also try some nut butter but this will all be from food budget. also going for lunch with friend but imagine will be somewhere like subway £3 deal.
got 4 mystery shops to do today as well:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
Hi all,
Hope everyone who has been poorly is feeling better, including all the pets. Hugs and the proverbial cup of tea to those that either need or want one
I have been a little bit slack in updating over the last few days but here goes:
9/20 SFD's - had a couple of really small spend days but could not / did not combine them. Did a big shop day last Sunday as had to get dog, chick and parrot feed plus a top up shop. Spent a little over £60 but didn't get round to the shop for parrot food  did get approx 2 months feed for chicks though so not all bad.
Batch cooked chicken in white wine on Monday and used all of the onions as I cooked a larger quantity than planned, so a small spend of £1.09 in local 1stop for onions on Tuesday for dinner. Window cleaner came round on Wednesday so £6 spend. SFD on Thursday then £5 parrot food on Friday:eek:
Today will be a spend day as need some milk, fruit and veg and a couple of birthday presents and some cards. Sunday should be a SFD as OH's birthday and we already have the ingredients in for his birthday dinner.
Grocery budget which includes all food, household, toiletries and bedding etc for 2 adults, 5 dogs, 3 chickens and 1 parrot plus OH's birthday dinner is currently at £110.56/£150. As I should have most of what I need for the rest of the month and enough chick and parrot food to last next month as well I am really pleased with this. I may splash out on a bottle of wine today for the birthday meal tomorrow but will wait to see what else I need to buy as I really want to keep under the £150
Lunch to work is on target at 12/22 I have been invited to our works restaurant for my friends birthday on Monday. A decent meal will cost me about £3.50 which is below the £5 you told us to put in an envelope for emergencies NSK so I am considering this over the weekend :money:
Food bank donation yet to be made but will try this weekend.
Looking at the above I'm not sure if I will reach the full 20 SFD total but even with the little blips the amount being spent has drastically reduced. I can now go into a shop and actually buy just the one item I need and then walk out again :j
Baby steps but all in the right direction, with only the occasional small diversion :rotfl:

Hi all. Today will be a spendy day as I need to buy firelighters and some other bits and bobs.
Quick question for the mystery shoppers, who do you do them with, I mean which site did you register with? TIA.
New phone came Thursday and I love it, can't believe it is cheaper than my old plan and Vodafone also give 3 months free unlimited internet till you get used to what your plan includes.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Well it appears a sad month for us hobbits.
Hugs to His Missus and Thrifylass.
My sister passed away last weds night after ten year battle with dementia. Been sad few days but at least her pain has gone and she will never be forgotten.
Trying to keep busy know I have spent every day since I last posted on here. Bought some food today wish I hadn't gone to one of these small asdas, veg so expensive compared to lidl All pre packed £1 a bag. So came out of there £18 lighter and not really a proper shop
Petrol will be probably double my budget this month, lots of running around unavoidable.
Been busy bee since 7am, so nice to be home, dog walked and in pjs.
Unheard of but just going to chill out, curry tonight and raise a glass of wine to my big sister.
