Managed another yoga session tonight :A

Got a parking ticket in the process

I shall appeal as I had a ticket displayed on my dashboard. It was pouring rain and windy so when I shut the door, I checked the wind hadn't blown the ticket off the dashboard. It hadn't, so off I went to be stretched and pulled for 90 minutes. When I came back and saw the penalty notice on my windscreen, I felt certain that there was an error. Then I got in the car and noticed the ticket was upside down so technically the warden was right. Grrrrrr!!!

I'll type my appeal letter in the morning. Do you think I should mention the fact that the ticket was indeed upside down? Or should I just insist that the ticket was displayed and send them a copy of it?

    Grrrr, grrrr and thrice grrrr!!!

    Otherwise, I had a good day :D

kat how was the archery lesson? Still firing the arrows straight?

Decided to do a challenge workout yesterday - 300 bodyweight squats. Took me 9 mins 45 secs, which I was pleased with, as it did involve rather a lot of huffing and puffing and pauses! However, I've now strained my lower back! It can't be my technique, as I wasn't rushing but trying to keep good form - honest! Hanging off the pull-up bar helps (after all, what else would I want to use it for...!) as does using polar bear (microwavable thingy). I don't work on Tuesdays so it's the day I do the food shop - walk and bus. I'm going to have to really minimise what I get today - an interesting experiment ahead as it's usually a heavy rucksack plus 2 heavy shoulder cloth bags, and I stagger to and from the bus stop. The bags are usually so heavy that if I see a coin on the floor, I have to keep walking and not pick it up - nooooooooo!

Anyhow, I have my list (reduced) of jobs for today so will have the satisfaction of crossing things off it later.

Must revisit my goals for 2014 (all 17 of them!) as I tend to focus on a few and forget others. I may not be in a position to actually do anything about them yet, but having them sitting at the back of my mind is useful. So long as they don't slip down the back of the sofa in my mind, never to surface again without some serious rummaging.

  • Good MORNING!!!

What a freezing day it is today! I was clearly day-dreaming this morning due to the early onset of frostbite and missed my train by 30 seconds, then as I boarded the next one I left my lunch bag and kindle/iphone charger bag on the platform. Grabbed it though just before the train pulled away! Phew!!

Apologies for a complete lack of posting yesterday! I was "hot-desking" which means a change of three desks the last of which ended right under the nose of my line manager so no MSE was allowed! AND I have been fighting (quietly and calmlyu) to avoid this course on Thursday in Birmingham which I have no desire for! But alas I think I have to go.

The problem is this - there are certain rules that they want you to abdie by - £5 for breakfast, £15 dinner etc - but no one seems to know how much you are allowed. An a little work outing in December is still being "discussed" and to be quite frank if they want me on a course they can cover EVERYTHING! Anyway... my boss is understanding and is getting what she can signed off before I go...:o

Archery was excellent! On one particular shoot with three arrows all went in the bullseye. Although this is only from 8 meters - I mightn't be so shouty next week at 18 metres. Didn't realise to qualify for the Olympics you have to shoot at 90 metres..??...

Anyway moving on... so I see credit cards have been paid off, birthdays have been celebrated, jobs have ended (for new ones to start), kiddies are ill, Hobbitses are spending lots of money on hair(:p)

What is a spend day? - any day you spend money whether allocated or not. If you paid for kids activities - it's a spend day. Sorry folks. Splitting things up last month as I have explained a few times seemed to confuse people so this is the simple version - great that it was budgeted for but I wouldn't expect anything less. But it's still a spend day!

Loveadove glad you and rust bucket survived. They do that to me on the bike as well and I can't really reverse - frightening eh?

So everyone is feeling a little flat eh? I am doing ok but spending a few pennies here and there on stupidness - yesterday an umbrella and a bottle of water - and I am getting annoyed with myself that the guilt of spending hasn't gripped quite as hard as when I was debt busting. I do think this month of having that money in my account and not giving it to someone else has a lot to answer for. My saved £1000 hasn't been touched though! Small blessings..

£90 made on eBay with a surprise purchase of £20 yesterday so that is something I guess. Am also selling a small perfume bottle from a well known band that already has 18 people watching it and at £2 already. I would be happy with a tenner for an emptyu bottle...:rotfl:

Should be getting the bike back at some point this week although they have not told me how much it is. Not looking forward to that as it will have to go on the CC.:mad::mad: ...along with the passport renewal which arrived yesterday - Whoop!

Right.. back to work... more from me later although I might venture to the gym again and see my new Landlord if he doesn't blow me off again!

  • Morning All,

Another one suffering here with feeling a bit gloomy with it being January and feels like it's dragging. I get paid on the 21st so that breaks it up and I have a family christening to look forward to.

Debt wise I just want it all gone now, parent debt only £1,000 left and CC is £1,225, both of these are interest free.

Feb is looking like an expensive month already, I've got 2 weekends away, MOT and Car Tax. Time to get my juggling hat on.

Today is going to be a SFD. Goals for this week going to eat out of my cupboards until payday, 2 exercise sessions and interview preparation.

    EH xx

Is it a council notice or one of those private penalty charges? The council one are real whereas the private penalty charges are just intimidation. I could go one for ages about them.

Anyway, I would still try to appeal and send them a copy (or the original and keep a copy) of the ticket you displayed. The council might still charge you as it wasn't displayed so that the time can be checked. However I would still try and plead with them, acknowledging the ticket was facing the wrong way but as they can see now it covered the time parked there. If it's a private car park I wouldn't worry to much. They still charge you or threaten to take you to court etc no matter if you have a valid ticket or not so it's all just a scam. We're going through this just now. There is a whole section of threads here somewhere on parking notices and private ones

  • Hello all :hello:

This is my first post on the thread. I have to confess I haven't done too well so far, which is partly why I haven't posted. It didn't help that I had my OH's 40th birthday this month (though I did use a pizza express voucher for our dinner!). However, I really do need to get control of my spending, so here I am.

I did manage a SFD yesterday, mostly because I forgot my purse ;-) My work building is on the highstreet so I find it very difficult not to buy anythng during my lunch breaks. i also tend to food shop every other day or so, so the SFDs are a real challenge. However, I am going to work out a plan of action for the rest of the month to make sure I get at least 10 SFDs in before the end of the month.

On the plus side I have been more active, am bringing my lunch to work this week and haven't brought any alcohol this month :-)

Good to read what other's have been up to - it helps to know that I'm not the only one struggling with Janaury!
  • Anyway, I would still try to appeal and send them a copy (or the original and keep a copy) of the ticket you displayed.

I agree Siouxsie - appeal this one and don't say it was upside down.

Siouxsie32 - exactly the same thing happened to me with the car parking ticket in a council car park. I appealed enclosing a copy of the ticked I purchased and they waived the charge. The parking fellas usually take a photo of your car and dashboard so they will have proof it was upside down.

I thought I better post an update or I will forget where I am. Figures up to and including yesterday are:

    7/20 SFD
    £94/£130 food
    £50/£100 diesel
    £55/£40 fun
    5/5 brand downshift
    7/22 LTW
    6/10 exercise sessions
    £0/£10 beauty
    £0/£3 food bank
    10/31 alcohol free days
0 visits to pubs, cafes etc

I was surprised when I totted up my food spends that I had so much left in the pot. Although I will probably go over by the end of the month I don’t think it will be by much. I will be going to Aldee on the way home from work but I have pared my list down to fruit, milk, eggs, garlic, rice pudding (instead of muller rice), choc bics for DH and jacket potatoes. I am hoping to spend less than £15.

I have arranged to go to aerobics with a friend this week and will be walking on sat and Sunday with DH so that is the exercise covered. The aerobics class fee will come out of my personal spends.

I am back on the wagon for dry January. I had 1 or 2 drinks max each day at the weekend and was surprised how rough I felt and it has really put me off. DH is the same which is good as he was drinking more than was good for him and with my job situation I can think of better things to do with our money.

I have just under ¼ tank of diesel so may need to top up the tank soon, if I could get to the end of the week it would be fab but I am more likely to need to do it on Thursday.

I have spent £59.50 that was not budgeted for as well as £16 on DH and DS haircuts that I had budgeted for but hadn’t taken the cash out and put in an envelope.

I am another one who plans next month before I am half way through this month. In fact I have the next 6 months planned on my spreadsheet:o
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75
