Siouxsie - I would be upfront about your ticket being upside down.

NSK - I agree your employer should pay ALL necessary costs associated with your course.

Had a spendy day yesterday, went grocery shopping, I only went last Wednesday but we normally do it on Mondays so I wanted to get back on track. Went to Asda for the first time in a very long time (for a full shop anyway). Can't say we were overly impressed, some things were cheaper and seemed to be permanent prices but their meat was more expensive as I usually buy on a 3 for £10 offer and they had nothing like that. Spend £64 ish so not too bad.

SFD for me today and hopefully for the rest of the week.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning,
Just checking in before I go off out again.
Quite proud of myself, dinner is in the slow cooker and I have a loaf ready to go in the oven before I go off to my friends. Trying to take one task at a time, school run, done, swimming done, second school run to do then the ballet run, phew!
I may need to break my NSD to get some petrol but I'm hoping I will make it!

What is a spend day? - any day you spend money whether allocated or not. If you paid for kids activities - it's a spend day. Sorry folks. Splitting things up last month as I have explained a few times seemed to confuse people so this is the simple version - great that it was budgeted for but I wouldn't expect anything less. But it's still a spend day!
    /QUOTE]

    Thanks for the clarification, NSK.
PITA as means I lose a SFD each week when I otherwise wouldn't spend that day! I think I am going to aim for 10 this month as I am getting myself into right two and eight about the whole thing and it's not worth it especially with the full plate I have atm.
That said it is a very good way of controlling spending and making you think twice before buying a chocolate bar from the newsagents or something. Also, it helps me to plan better so I know as tomorrow I am going out I will be spending so it makes sense to do some food shopping that day.
Eta: today is not a SFD as DD is having school lunch which has to be paid for daily, rather annoying!

  • Afternoon. Thanks for the clarification NSK will have to be more creative to obtain my nsds. Have had a busy morning as 1 of my clan is off school sick and no nursery today for my other.. Shepherd's pie is in the slow cooker and have leftover mash from tea last night to top it.
OH has gone to library to do some research. So I am going to file bills, reorganise some bits in our room and clean. Not leaving the house means nsd!

    Hi all

Well I have broken a spend free run and gone spend barmy today! By the end of the day I will have probably spent about £250  I shall tally it all up later and update my signature..

The smartphone I wanted to buy was out of stock this morning but should be available for collection this afternoon. Ive managed to get £5 off the phone because I already have a pay as you go back up phone but unfortunately I have to buy £20 credit. This is a pain since I only need a handset but I will probably use the credits for making 0800 or 0845 numbers which will help keep my monthly bill as close to the £9 per month mark for a while!

I managed to get a Boot$ £10 eye test with retinal imagery voucher when I bought supplements so that will be £15 less into the medical/car/xmas pot :T

I picked up a free latte at Waitrose and also managed to get 10p off on spending £2 on 2 Waitrose shower gels. Every little helps :T

Going to grub up now and will check in later

    Bye for now

I got the shopping done without straining my back any more :j. On the walk there I picked up 2 rubber bands and 1p, and on the way home I found another 1p - yippee! Bags were of a weight where I could scoop it up - result! And I pared down the list to £25 ish, which is small for me!

I've been thinking about the downshifting challenge, and can't seem to find anything to downshift! Have already shifted coffee to Ald1 but they don't do decaff so still get that at Sa1ns. Also buy Ald1 top brand chicken breasts as they have no added water (and therefore chemicals to keep the 'water' in the chicken as it cooks) and no added sugar (yep, some brands add it!!). I really am stumped as to anything else! What have other people done? Might give me ideas...

Have been using my stepper (it's been in the loft for aaaages) today as I can do it in short periods, still get an exercise session in, and be kind to my back.

Have made more purple soup, tho it's not quite such a deep purple as I used less red cabbage and also added some chinese leaf. We end up binning the chinese leaf otherwise. Why do we have it then? It comes in the veggie box. Why don't I edit my likes/dislikes to avoid it? Cos I forget to look at the week's box in advance!

Off to carry on knitting - nearly finished the owl and already planned the next one. Must also check banking for tilly tidies and do thank you letters for dd's presents.

Thanks for your help with the parking ticket everyone. Yes thrifty, it was a council one. My instinct was to go with Kat's suggestion and not mention the fact that the ticket was upside down. Then I figured the warden probably took a photo so maybe if I explain why the ticket was upside-down, they may waive the fee.

Okay, off to finish the letter...I'll keep you all updated.

PS Today is a SFD and I have another yoga class later :)

Small spend day today. Had to get fresh bread, cheese and cereal bars for DS' afternoon nursery snack. Cycled to work and walked to LIDL in town (about a 45 min waddle), so def done my exercise today ;).

    hi everyone
Well SFD for me today as on nights and Im not going anywhere other than bed in between....
Had a £5 high street voucher today from post surveys for registering unaddressed mail for 2 weeks, yey!!!
Biggish shop at Ald1 which came to £42, although if I had gone to another certain supermarket, it would have been £70 - was bored and thought I would compare prices by doing a pretend online order. I clearly have far too much free time.....
Yesterday, saw a perfume bottle in a antique place, which was £4 and lovely. So wasted a SFD and bought it for a friend's birthday.
