Oh my goodness this thread moves so fast!

Checking in with 5/20 SFDs! Very cheap weekend as dinner and drinks with friends on Friday (wine yoinked from the Xmas stash), Saturday night plans were cancelled as the friend whose birthday it was had a dissertation freak-out and has postponed til February, then my Dad took me to hockey on Sundayand absolutely would not, under any circumstances, pay for my ticket as I spent about 3 hours before deleting junk off his ancient computer..

    £0s spent!

£40+ made on eBay (not too sure on the fees) and a few bits sent today to musicmagpie makes for a thrifty start to January. All thanks to you guys & NSK in particular of course!

Keep these lentil recipes coming, can't wait to try some of them out....
Begin again: November 2015. Debt at £12,500
    Now: [STRIKE]£12,500[/STRIKE] £11,300.00

Target: <£10k by end of June!
  • Really proud of myself today! Finished work 90 mins early but couldn't go home as i pick up a friend from work on mondays. so went into town, found somewhere free to park, picked up a pair of glasses ordered and paid for back in oct, then went to the library and borrowed a money saving book. so proud of myself for not giving intotemptation to spend 'just a couple quid'....ao 4 SFD in a row! go me!

    Hiya... Spend day today.
    :(

However, I think they were rather sensible spends.

So we spent a total of £29.71 which was spent on:
*168 fairy non-bio tablets at £14.99, approx 3 a week so should last about a year (although that is by my maths so it could be anything).
*35 bottles of water (this cost me £3.29 which is much better than £2.00 for six bottles of volvic).
    * We then spent £11.49 on 40 andrex toilet rolls. (which I am splitting with my mum).
*We also got some cupcakes (£3.99) and then you have to add the VAT on.

The original cost was £39.71 but my mum is paying £10 for her half of the toilet rolls. So, as much as I think it is crazy money to spend on no food, I can see this lasting us a fair while so will save us money in the long run.
    :undecided

Hope everyone has had a good day.
    :)

  • Hi everyone

Poorly KUTAT reporting for duty :(

Up most of the night with this pesky cold & INSET day at work, so not feeling on top form, however...
    • Spends today - £5.85 at local shop for milk & cold medicine
    • £27.30 to send Ebay items sold (paid through PayPal) leaving a profit of £21.70
    • Plus a spend of £20.09 at Morrissons for some birthday cards, stamps, yet more tissues and some throat sweets to get me through teaching tomorrow
That's all I can say really, a thoroughly un-MSE day!

On a bright note, I managed to take my lunch to work which included *fanfare* a piece of fruit! Unheard of in these parts, but it is one of my NY resolutions to eat at least one fruit item per day

Right I'm off to get a hot water bottle & cheer myself up with some rubbish TV!!

Hope you've all had a more productive day than I have!!

    Evening all

SFD today and have fed us both today and made lunch for tomorrow using up bits and bobs from the fridge and freezer. DH has requested jacket pots with cheese and beans tomorrow. Nice and cheap meal:)

Won't be a SFD tomorrow as DMIL will take DS for his hair cut (£6). I didn't budget for this so will take it out of the food or fun budget. Weds will also be a spend day as I need diesel and a fruit top up.

    5/20 SFD
£25/£130 food budget (including 1 wheely bin clean)
    £30/£100 diesel
2/5 brand downshift - basics grapes and plain yog
    0/£3 food bank
    3/15 exercise sessions
0/£40 going out, family fun etc
    3/22 LTW
    6/31 alcohol free days
    0/£10 beauty spends

Had some bad news today in that my redundancy may happen a lot sooner than expected but doing this challenge is making me feel positive about it as I know we will manage.

DPIL bought us an outside/security light for our garage and have arranged for an electrician to give us a quote tomorrow to put it up. I so don't want to break into the £500 I am planning to save. If I can put it off a couple of weeks it can come out of next months money;)
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

PheoniX – wow! Never mind the bank manager, I had a tear in my eye reading that! Well done you *sniff sniff* inspirational! (although NSK – you might be right about the real reasons!)

Clippy_girl – it’s me with the broken stick blender – thanks! I will check out argos/ asda.. good tip.

Thanks for sharing EmilyTee, always good to know a bit about everyone’s ‘real’ lives. I would dearly love to know what we all look like too as I have really strong mental images of all us debt slayers! I bet I am so wrong tho!

Well, first day back to work for me after about 2 hours sleep on the sofa last night as I was coughing really badly and didn’t want to disturb DH. So consequently I feel ruffff, and my back is worse than ever due to trying to curl round big cat who refused to budge. No exercise today as a result, but no spends.

Back to the vets tomorrow with Kitty – 5 times in a month now – she seems to have some kind of ear infection. Sigh. Poor thing, but I am eating my words when I confidently said on November’s challenge that getting a rescue kitten would not cost us anything much extra…

I think it was NSK who asked Lynneee about whether it was still financially better to go to morries with the staff discount or go to Aldi/Lidl. I would be interested to know as we have a relative who works at morries so we have the 10% card too and go there all the time. I am wondering whether to try discount supermarkets or whether it’s cheaper for us to use the card? I might have to do a comparison shop...

right off to cough, wince, cough my way to an early night..

    Hi all,

I'm not brill at updating - have to stand in line for 'puter behind teen boy FB obsessee! so may be a bit inconsistant with posts, please bear with me and be assured I'm doing my best even if I'm not here everyday.

3 No spend days so far and all spends have been strictly budgeted for.
    £19.75/£200 groceries so far
Took lunch to work today, first day back so good start and got tomorrow's lined up ready.
Friend has invited me to tea tomorrow so that will save a little, though we are still playing 'clearing out the freezer, meals' game until I get paid in 2 weeks:p.

    Hi all :)

Made £21 on eBay last night but need to calculate after fees :)

Went to gym again and did same class as yesterday. And did 20 min swim. My shins absolutely killed though :( spoke to instructor who said sounds like shin splint as its a high intensity class with lots of jumping and landing. She recommended I get some proper running shoes and go on the gait thing so that's going to be a big expense :( also need to get new bikini as well.

At least today has been SFD and sugar free day :)
