Checking in with scores at the end of day 6.

This challenge is very enlightening and tougher than I thought it would be - its quickly made me realise that I am not as virtuous as I thought I was and I do fritter away small amounts on a daily basis :) making a big effort to restrict spending to a weekly Saturday shop ...and if it isn't bought then...I will do without until the following Saturday

    SFDs 3/20
    Groceries/toiletries £100.30/£360 - £90pw for 3 adults, 2 dogs & 2 cats
    Downshift 0/5
Take your lunch to work 3/20
    Outings 0/£10 .
    Foodbank 0/£3
    Exercise 1/15
    Beauty 0/£10
    DFD 1st December 2014

Dedication to the challenge is seeing DH and I working through the Quorn products lurking at the bottom of the freezer. DD2 is a veggie and there is a fair assortment of products (bought on 2 for 1 offers) that she's tried and not liked - so waste not want not!

  • I've had a spend day again today. I've also realised I will probably have very small ones every day this week due to the sun hols.

    Hope everyone is feeling OK.

Is this to buy your newspaper Gretchen? I would put the money in an envelope today and then just count it as one withdrawal because you've budgetted. Iyswim? L2B.x

    Morning

Quick check in as I am warming up to work.

SD yesterday, but I knew it was going to be. The car was on red and I was pushing it so I filled up. Only put £20 in the other day to see me through the weekend due to time constraints and queues. All filled up now though and came in a couple of pounds under my budget.

Can't update my totals until I get back to my spreadsheet tonight. I am 50p awry somewhere, so I've entered it into my spreadsheet as a miscellaneous so that my figures and actual tally up.

Went to the gym for the first time this year, and about eight months. Did day 1 of the C25k. Didn't feel too bad afterwards, and still feel okay today. Day 2 tonight after work. I'm going to ease in gently and then add some weights after doing the challenge and/or a swim.

Going through the cupboards tonight after the gym to see what I have in and how many meals it can get me through. I really don't want to go shopping for a good few days and if I plan it all correctly, I won't have to.

I've got some portions of stuff in the freezer and bits to go with so I'm not going to be starving. I figure if I eat down my stocks this month, then what I save on food shopping can be transferred to re-stock next month.

Going to look out for the 2kg bag of lentils myself. I think the best I've ever got is 1kg and I am starting to use more and more lentils. Never even touched a lentil until a few years ago!

Ohhhh and without realising it, I down-shifted one brand the other day. I've been buying the sainsbos own brand diet lemonade to top my squashes up, the other day I bought the basics version, 17p for 2 litres. Still working on the other four.

Morning! Just checking in for the day.
Back to school for DD today and all my best intentions went out the window because I planned to walk and it was absolutely chucking it down! So i took the car.
Swimming in a bit with DS and a catch up with friends afterwards, I've not seen them since November due to the kids being ill so I am looking forward to seeing them all.
DD has ballet today so i have to pay the fees, annoyed this ruins a SFD though as it's been allocated since I got paid.
Today I am grateful for the fact i have a car. I don't use it much but it is a necessity for when I do.

Cycled into work (OH let me because the weather is so warm and it didn't rain) but bump was a bit sore afterwards, need to change the hight of my handle bar.

I complained to a seller on Amaz0n because the item received did not match the description at all. He replied, well it's not lost or damaged so I could send it back but need to pay for postage myself. Oh and they will change the website to match the "new design". CHEEKY. No way! It was only a 3.99 stocking filler for DS but out of principle they can't do that. I didn't get what I ordered. So we'll see....

Lynneee - Is you Mr Morries discount enough to make a significant saving each month..?

Morning, the discount is 10%, so it does add up! I am also very choosy when it comes to what time I go shopping, so I can get lots of good reductions ;) We have just had an Aldi open but I have yet to go in there, when I need to go shopping I am planning on going there to compare prices so will let you know!

Morning all. DS started at pre-school this morning and settled really well, I'm so proud of him. It's only upstairs at his nursery but still, it's a bit step for such a little boy (he's 3 on Monday). It's reassured me that we did the right thing keeping him there for pre-school instead of moving him to one attached to a school (the school he'll go to doesn't have a pre-school otherwise he'd have gone there).

    Anyway, my update:

SFD 3/20 - missed out yesterday as DH sent me to Ald1 on the way home, only a £3.16 spend though. Still a SFD so far!
    Food £131.92/£200
Brand Downshift 0/5 - will have to have a think about this as we already buy a lot of the value range.
    Food Bank £0/£3
Exercise 3/15 - counting pushing the heavy buggy to nursery this morning!

    Have lovely days everyone x

I think it was NSK who asked Lynneee about whether it was still financially better to go to morries with the staff discount or go to Aldi/Lidl. I would be interested to know as we have a relative who works at morries so we have the 10% card too and go there all the time. I am wondering whether to try discount supermarkets or whether it’s cheaper for us to use the card? I might have to do a comparison shop...

Hi Tiptoes, when I shop next week I will find out... I know that when I shop at asda, (rarely now) if it wasnt for the discount it would be cheaper than morries, but now we have our shiny new aldi I need to check it out! (Dont think I have ever been in an Aldi before, quite excited! :rotfl:
