Renewed Motivation

I broke my ankle quite badly 7 weeks ago, so I'm still off work while the ridiculous ankle heals (hopefully), but there are a few things I learned so far from this situation:

1. I need to look after myself better
2. I need to make the effort to see friends & family far more often
3. I need to sort my financial situation out!

So, in an effort to resolve these three issues, so far I have:
  • Been to the opticians to get a check-up. Unfortunately this will result in a rather expensive (unplanned and un-budgeted-for) bill of £250 for new lenses & glasses, but at least I'll get rid of eye strain...
  • Increased by eBay selling limits so I can sell as much as I can to pay off debts
  • Met up with an old friend last night for a meal (£38) but thoroughly enjoyed it
  • Sold two good items on eBay, with proceeds going straight to my most expensive CC
  • Signed up for 1 debt vs. 100 days challenge :j
  • Discovered Mr Money Mustache - who is amazingly inspirational :)
  • Sent PPI claim letters to Barclays (rejected), Lloyds & Tesco bank for old CC accounts, so finger's crossed there
I think that's all so far?

I'm not very good at setting myself long-term goals, as they just seem too far away, so I'm focussing on the one challenge I have signed up to.

Right then, here's what I've got planned for today:
  • Cancel DD to credit expert for monthly service (£14.99 per month) - I can use Noddle instead
  • Check online banking
  • Cancel Amazon Prime membership - I have two issues with this (a) I keep buying books because I get 'free' one day delivery, and it's such a bad habit (b) I can't afford £79 to go out at the beginning on July, when I don't really use any of the Prime services
  • Planned catch up with another good friend this afternoon :T
  • Work - sort lessons for this week. Although I'm signed off, I'm still marking, planning cover lessons etc. as I'm part of a small team & I can't let them down. Besides, I'm a control freak (with everything except money obviously.... :rotfl:)
I think that's everything for now

A fairly good day :) I've decided not to transfer the £24 I have saved by cancelling DDs as I have so little reserve at the mo, I don't want to cut things too fine, so I'm going to transfer it to my new spangly ISA instead. Not sure if that's the right thing to do or not!

Feel like I'm on a roll! Do need to go & take some more photos to sell stuff on eBay though, need to keep it all going....

    Tomorrow's debt-busting plan:

    • Pay £24 saved into ISA
    • List 3 new items on eBay
    • Check online banking
    • EDF meter readings for gas & electricity
    • DH to pay £20 cash into bank account

    Think that's all

    Hi
You owe a similar amount to me...too much...
How long do you think it will take you to pay it off???
    Good luck with your endeavours.
Do you have any luck with eBay?

  • Hi Cat Girl

Yeh I seem to do ok from eBay, but then I think I'm selling the good stuff first, I expect to be selling in
    the <£5 zone soon!

I'm trying not to set a DFD as it blows my mind, as you say owing too much :( Just focussing on my one challenge of 1 debt at a time, and get there as fast as possible.

I'm off work at the moment with a broken ankle, so I have time to focus on these things, but in the past I've let myself drift into bad habits when I get stressed at work. I'll be doing my best not to do that this time.

Got the motivation at the mo, so I'm making the most of it!

    So extra things for today:

Post 3 eBay items with MyHermes
Pay £10 eBay sale to CC (can't do it today as the online CC will only allow 1 debit card payment per day! How ridiculous is that?!)
A strange day so far, I haven't really got anywhere. Got loads of work to do, which I don't really want to, I need to stop procrastinating!

Ooh and I've just listed 4 new items on eBay.

  • Breaking debt-busting news!
    • Cancelled the Ideal Home mag subscription that I took out online a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully the first payment hasn't gone out, so I have saved £25 :T
    • Paid the £10 from last night's eBay sale into my ISA instead of to the CC debt. If I leave it in my normal bank account, I'll be tempted to spend it
    • Listed 4 new items on eBay
    • Checked online banking via my mobile AND sorted out my laptop access which wasn't working
    Still to do:
    • £20 cash into bank
    • Post ebay packages
    • Work - I have 4 student folders that I need to get finished off, but I keep doing more fun debt-busting stuff!

Proper productive work day today :) spent this morning sorting out those pesky student folders, and this afternoon putting together a photo movie summary of this academic year. It's not finished by a long way but I think the basics are done.

NSD yesterday & today, which I'm proud of. I really do have a 'spending' habit - it doesn't matter what it is, but I just seem to spend pennies without realising it. But with renewed motivation, I'm determined to not spend my hard earned pennies on pointless 'stuff'. In the words of Mr Money Mustache - stuff does not buy happiness...

Thinking of having a quiet night tonight, possibly watch a DVD which I've been lent while I'm broken - the closest I can get to horse stuff while I'm non-weight bearing.

Ooh I forgot that today's debt-busting (although not really) has been made up of making a start on sorting out my pension queries with HR. Waiting for a response.

Had a couple of £0.99 bids on my eBay items today, with a few ending tomorrow eve (I think), so that's something to look forward to.

    Plan for tomorrow:
    • Check online banking
    • Check eBay items ending Friday eve
    • NSD
    Think that's everything for now.

  • Just checked my online banking & realised that the new Car Tax DD has gone out, which I completely forgot about, so I'll need to add some pennies to the account to make sure I don't go over my £200 OD limit

Not a very productive day so far & a bit down. I'm so impatient, I want to fix everything NOW! And clearly I can't...
