  • So, the big toe is hugely swollen and very painful :(

I've had slippers on the past couple of days (yup, incl at work :o) but a) it's not practical and b) they're really not going to provide much protection.

tried on my old pair of (faux) crocs last night and they're really comfy :) Sadly seen better days (I wear them in the garden and walking the dog in summer - they are totally smooth on the bottom so desperately need replaced!) so couldn't get away with wearing them to work etc

Had to pick up some tablets for Maisie at the vet so popped to the big shopping centre on the edge of town and manged to get a pair at SD for £15 :T A very boring black (they had gorgeous navy ones:o) but they will go with all outfits for work so that took priority.

Came home and thought I'd see if I could get another pair online (they also had a even more gorgous Khaki colour which would be great for work but not in my size ...) and .... oops :o

I got a Khaki pair (£4 cheaper than in store:)) which will also be good for work until the toe heals and a chocolate pair :o for walking the dog etc (£7 cheaper than in store:)) and a couple of t-shirts and a pair of joggers .....

Feel like I've spent loads (£43) :o but it's stuff I needed and TBH I actually can't remember when I last bought stuff for me :o

Sometimes it has to be done, and it sounds as if you were very restrained.... Hope it gave you a warm feeling opening the parcels

Hope toes are on the mend so small bits of you but when they hurt they hurst...,
As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or
What does the saying say.... When life hands you lemons, make lemonade
Or as my Mum would say, brush yourself down, tomorrow is another day or

Please say hello my new diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6578460/still-dancing-to-blow-the-debt-clouds-away
  • A mixed bag today ...... let's start with th egood news ..... I'm on hols for a week!:j

Not so good news .... I'm still having 'issues' with my toes :( big one (that the rock got dropped on) is still really sore and one of the others is still yukky .... was back at podiatrist on Weds & have to go back next Fri too!

And now the really not good news .... between now & the end of June, the following is all due:

    House maintenance works £250
    Car Tax £140
    Landland rental £155
    House insurance *

I had decided the last would have to be by d/debit (same this year) as no funds set aside BUT got my renewal (have been with the same co for several years now) and did a couple of comparisons & I can get it over £100 cheaper! :T

So ..... that makes paying it in one go a 'lookable intoable' option

Phoned current insurer and they knocked £70 off straight away  but still more expensive & now pee'd off with them - why didn't they send the renewal at the £70 lower .... mmmmm I know why - bet you do too! ;)

Just wish it was due in say a couple of months time!

Anyway - trying to juggle funds but still a bit short:

    House maintenance £200/£250
Car Tax £140/£140 (& sadly nothing extra to borrow)
    Landline rental £150/£155
    House insurance £65/£175

    mmmmmmmm

    LOL - 100% agree!

I have had a bit of a tidy up - although she'll still think it looks a mess:(

(I've actually threatened to ban her from the house before - seriously, every time she comes she makes snide remarks about it .... I lost it the time before last & said if she came, she could put up with it and if it was an issue, she didn't need to come!)

    *sigh*

Have a few bits to chuck in the garage :rotfl: (really need to have a sort out in there sometime!) AND really need to hoover but it's absolutely pelting down and I need to be able to put Maisie outside when I do it ....

  • I'm debating sticking with d/debits for the house insurance - that was the original plan for this year and it was only when it was so much cheaper that I was thinking it might be possible to pay it in one go.

BUT it's going to be a real (thinking along the impossible lines) struggle to try to get the extra £100 by the end of May

I'm still short £50 on the house maintenance works (which have to be done and have to be paid for at the time)

I worked it out and it's only an extra £12 to pay it over the year - that will give me some breathing space to save it up for next year (as was the original plan) and means I can put the £65 I have to either the house maintenance pot or start off a pot for my car insurance (which I do def want to pay in full this year)

The plan for this year was to get the car insurance off d/debit and paid in full and then do the same with the house insurance next year .... think I'm going to stick with that

On the plus side, even with the additional £12, the house insurance is still £120 cheaper! (prev co was £302 to pay d/debit)
