Congrats Sandypan, so very inspirational! What a great feeling it must be, to be debt free except for the mortgage!

Number 093 reporting in with a payment of £252.29 making my total repayments so far £292.29

My thanks to everyone who works so hard running this thread, what we all do without you?!

Finally can report that today, the 27th January 2014 I am officially CC and Loans Debt Free! Settlement figure paid on car today just need to make a dent in the mortgage now!
Its been a long haul, April 07 on CC's and loans alone owed £54,489!! Wasn't in the position then to do much about it except try to make minimum payments but kept a record of everything in my finances folder and sitting back looking at it today can't believe how far we've come. Jan 09 - 46,405, May 09 - £42,864, Feb 11 - £31,660, Mar 12 - 23,753, Oct 12 - £18,000, Feb 13 £15,572 and today £0!
This site has been amazing and the help and advice on the forums is superb. It feels great now to think my hard earned cash will be spent on me and my family and not paying massive interest payments to CC and loan companies. Intend to keep MS it's a way of life now and next hurdle is to clear the mortgage.

Yayy, well done, it must be such a lovely feeling :T:T:T:T

  • Hi everyone, inspired reading these posts and while I'm not sure I will be completely debt free by Xmas 2014, I'm going to give it a good try if I can still join up? So £11,000...( I need to update my signature this week). Can't go on with it creeping up, and I'm getting married in November (small-ish budget already sorted thanks to lovely mum and mum-in-law to be, and my fianc!'s much better head for money) and would love to start off married life debt-free, if at all possible. Gulp.
    As of 10 July: Debts:CC1:22.4% - £2900; CC2:0%- £3700; O/D - £1700; 0% 24 month credit purchase - £[STRIKE]1176[/STRIKE] - £0! :) OU loan: £[STRIKE]1305[/STRIKE] - 984.81

A massive congratulations to Sandypan!! I bet you are feeling on top of the world right now.

I've had a really bad month! It was my 30th and could not stop spending!!Which was good at the time just regretting it now! Plus Christmas and sales. We did make a few big purchased on 0% finance (bedroom furniture all in sales) We also finally brought a carpet for the house with CASH!! Which I am so over the moon with seems we have been three years without it!!

So I now need to increase my total to clear £9611.51 really sorry to make more work for you to change this.

Some DD come out tomorrow but will wait till Friday to up date.

Well done to everyone this month. We have nearly made:beer: it

Paid off a cc today - now at £2291.54/£10,000 so far.
  • Well done to the member who shifted that massive debt! It puts my £12k seem more manageable somehow :)

Payday on Friday and we should be able to clear another £600 meaning january has saw us clear £1180 which I'm happy with. I'm annoyed though because I'm filtering any spare money from the current account to the visa and I've caught myself short a few times and had to use the CC :'( Looking forward to seeing the balances down a bit on pay day.

Q... we have a HBOS visa which has a 5K balance we are currently working on clearing. We also have 4K on an MBNA card, does anyone know our chances of starting to get 0% CC offers when the 5K balance is cleared?
    Happy!

Thank you for every bodies kind comments, the reason I included the figures was to show people that it is 'doable'

Everybody is different but for me I worked out which ones were costing me the most i.e. which had the highest interest. I then moved any I could to a 0% and wrote that end date in my diary to ensure I had arranged another shift before I had to pay high interest again. I read all the sites on here to find ways of making more money and spending less - even down to squeezing toilet rolls so my family used less toilet paper!!!!! I shopped around to get the best deals, got RTC where I could and made loads of lovely meals for next to nothing!!!! Shopping round for the best deals on utilities as well saved £100's, my mobile phone bill last month, contracted was 29p!

It was hard going to start with because I work at least 60 hours a week and was having to juggle phone calls to credit cards in my lunch hour. What I did find though was the longer it went on the easier it became. It was no longer a chore but a challenge and has each card/loan went it meant I had more income left over to throw at the next one.

Getting my OH on side was another major step forward, he used to walk away before when I was at the RTC and wouldn't be seen with me at the till but he is now the RTC King!

We are all now as a family reaping the rewards, so I would say to everybody out there it has probably taken you a long time to get in debt so you are not going to get out of it over night. It has taken me 7 long years but it is also a lesson learnt and I am going to enjoy the next 7 (hopefully) and not be depressed or ashamed!
