  • Just spent a loooong time catching up - wow, hasn't everyone been busy!

Firstly, a huge congrats to Kerri - and what a beautiful name you have chosen! Also, a warm welcome to bridget81, Plumpduck and BirdSeed

It's been a good week money-wise this week. My eldest owed us some money and has paid it off in one go, DH had a little more money come in than he expected, and we had a £100 refund from the electric company as we are quite a bit in credit at the moment. I'm now feeling a rather uncomfortable mix of excitement and panic. Excitement because we used the extra money to pay a huge amount off my Capital One card and now only owe them around £15 (and I'm hoping to scrape that together in the next week and then Capital One will be gone forever! Hurrah!:j). Panic because we have paid that huge amount to Capital One and my instinct was to hoard it away and have a little savings stash!

Got my Argos Card statement through this morning and the amount outstanding after minimum payment taken off and interest added is £22 less than last month, so that's a little more off of the debt total:T

I've been lurking over on the Grocery Challenge thread and have found it really helpful. I think that someone else said on this thread that they have found the GC helps them concentrate on their whole budget and I find this has been the same for me, too. By obsessively watching the grocery budget I have become much more aware of where every penny is going and it's really made a massive difference - I'm planning to be a lot more active on the GC thread next month!

    Total paid off so far #66 £1597 / £12500

I think I may go out and clean out the greenhouse ready for early spring this afternoon - I'm planning on actually using it this year and growing my own as much as possible this summer.

Hope everyones having a good day

Thanks for the tip on the grocery challenge think I need to look on there as food shopping is a huge budget eater, it's hard work as I don't eat much meat, other half is allergic to fish which I love, and three nights a week we need quick teas due to the kids hobbies, ie home from school at 4 and back out at 5 then not home till 7 and then the other night home from work at 5 and oh takes kids football who get home at 6.30 so I have tht time to make tea, prepare lunches for the day after and catch up on ironing etc. so these three days are really difficult, and Thursday normally end up with a takeaway, so if I could sort out that day alone would save us 60 a month which is a shocking amount! Off to investigate now ; )

Payday is Friday and I can't wait to get off the mark.

Saved about £75 from not smoking although have spent that on bits n bobs through the month, still less damage than before quitting.

I hear you! I have 5 kids and spend my evenings running them from here to there! I'm the only meat eater in the house, all the others are veggie, and on these nights I always plan for slowcooker meals, then I don't have to worry too much about cooking in the evening (maybe have to bung some pasta on the hob in the evening or make a salad earlier in the day, but that's about it!) and if someone is going to be in quite late then there is a warm meal waiting for them that they can help themselves to. Leftovers make the base for another meal in the week or tomorrows lunch.

I often see people n the OS board say that if they cook veggie meals in the slowcooker they end up with brown mush, I think that isn't so. There are loads of veggie meals you can cook in a slowcooker - curries, pulse sauces for pasta, baked mixed beans....and, of course, a pulse or Quorn/TVP stew.

Slowcookers are fantastic for busy mums:D

Just feeling sorry for myself at the moment. Totally broke waiting for payday and my sister paid for me to go bingo - I won £600. Gave her half for paying for me and had £300. Planned to put £75 in sealed pot challenge, £150 on debt free and £75 on goodies for me and the baby.
:(:( roll on a day later and husbands car breaks and its going to cost...... yep you guessed it..... roughly £300 to fix.
We cant take any money out the bank as thats for bills/food etc so the only money we have is the £300.
I do see it as a god send in a way but i'm just so gutted. Was finally about to be off the mark and start doing the things I decided to do this year and it goes pear shaped! Dont know how many exasperated breathes I have taken the past few days :(
So i'm still not off the mark..... maybe payday!
