Woo hoo - go Freespirit - to go through the self service without incident is like a distant dream to me lol.

JJ - will keep everything crossed for you. I'm always on the lookout for genuine Pandora deals so will post on here or PM you if I see anything.

Ladies, I know this isn't Christmas related and if it's inappropriate to post it here then please forgive me but would you take a look at this e-petition and sign it if you feel you can support it? It's about refusal of cervical screening and needs lots more signatures in order to have it debated in parliament. It has been started by a lady whose sister died of cervical cancer at age 23 and who wasn't allowed screening even though she requested it.

PEPPAPIG haha that has made me giggle :rotfl:I have signed the petition for you my lovely, i totally agree with it, i think it is awful that young women arent offered smears even when they are showing symptoms, just because they are below 25, there is no age discrimination with cancer, surely these young women are proof of that

Jj I hope everything goes well, will be thinking of you x

The Xmas pudding bin bags? Would they be any good for "wrapping" bean bags?

Erm nothing too festive to report here. Purchased some bits online for grown up nieces stocking and a stocking itself £2 from hb :)

Decorating wise there is light at the end of the tunnel. Friend says hall will be done on Thursday. I've finished papering and painting our room. There is still the mantle in the liv room to do. Build bedroom furniture. Paint and sand hall cupboard. Gut out the rest of the rooms and have a clear out before the end of the month. not much then

Wow, this thread is flying. I saw the JL ad on YouTube and loved it.

I'm in the North of England where a lot of smaller market towns have a most excellent small department store called Boyes. Boyes is brilliant for all sorts of OS stuff, enamel bakeware, decent hot water bottles, Stardrops..

This year Boyes have children's Christmas duvet sets for £9.99. The prints are OK, there's rather a cool one with cartoon reindeer and Christmas trees. However, I'm wondering if this is a step too far? Allowing time out of use for laundering, it's only going to get a few weeks of use each year.
I suppose it could be a family heirloom eventually and £9.99 won't break the bank, but I wonder how many of these Boyes will sell? Any thoughts, folks?

you do no that boyes are all over yorkshire am in east yorkshire iv'e got three boyes in my town
family mean more to me than money it's call a life
  • Well yesterday I got on with some more wrapping, thinking I was down to just the books left to do. Did that thing where you then find a box of stuff you'd forgotten about (tell me Im not the only one that manages to do this every.single.year?!) So anyway , NOW Im down to the books.. lol I might do that shortly, Im contemplating walking along to sainsburys to have a nose.

Anyone know of any supermarkets that sell either own brand instant flavoured lattes/coffees (eg gingerbread) or brands either than nestle? Ive only seen nestle ones and we boycott them. I usually make my own syrup but haven't been bothered to do that yet... Another thing for me today maybe.

May I ask a question that's nothing to do with Xmas?! (Unless we call it a present haha) Has anyone had a platinum ring re-made? My engagement ring took a knock and I saw a jewellers about sorting that and was told by the assistant that melting and re-making would make the new ring weaker, and that the band was quite thin. I was insulted about some of her comments - sorry we weren't loaded at the time of buying and able to purchase one for thousands but it was 9 years ago and we'd just had a baby! She suggested a whole new band (minus diamonds) starting at around £800... So of course now Im just thinking shes after the sale. I said I was hoping to get 2 other bands melted down and made into one new ring also, but she said I probably couldn't expect either of the rings to then last longer than 'a few years'?! I cant find info to back any of this up.

Im seeing her again next week as she's bought diamonds in for me to look at... Doesn't make sense does it! I need my wedding ring sizing down a touch too. Hmm

freespirit thanks, I might try a small batch and freeze/de-frost and have a taste see how they are...for the good of the testing obviously ;)
mrsguymartin sounds to me that she is out for a sale. I'd be tempted to look around at another jewellers if I am honest!! I have never heard that it 'weakens' the ring!!!! Also re-sizing doesn't. My Great Grandma had to have her wedding ring cut off when I was about 2 (it's 18K gold) and she gave it to my parents to give me once I was older. She passed away when I was 12 and even then I didn't know my mum had the ring safely tucked away. I had it once I was 19 and got it re-sized (and re-joined together) and I wear it every day - now 23 almost 24 and it's perfectly fine, plus even that only cost around £45. As I say, don't give them your custom look for somewhere else.

Not much Christmas to report here as I was out last night at the last of my bootcamp weekday classes (not re-joining as haven't got in to it after 8weeks!!). Then I had been making some Pudsey bear cookies to sell in work for Children in Need. Hopefully will get some Christmassy stuff done before the week is out :)

MrsM I have found Christmas Smooth radio - listened last night and this morning humming along :D I can see my TV watching being replaced with the radio whilst dotting around the house!!!
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Whittards do flavoured coffee. So do Douwe Egberts (4 flavours) and Boaters. I'll edit this post with some links in a bit. ETA- Can't find Boaters anymore (I remember buying it in Sainsbury before), but I have found these people instead:

Whittards flavoured coffee is in the outlet section, so I'm a bit worried that they've discontinued them in store (was told yesterday in the Strand shop that they don't sell the instant tea in the shops now). It may be better to do a click and collect order if you want them.

Also, if you can use ground coffee in a filter machine or cafetiere, there's a wonderful company in London that sell flavoured ground beans. They do sell online. Got some caramel peanut flavour from them yesterday to try.

Don't know about the ring, but you could try contacting a jewellery shop in Hatton garden or the jewellery quarter in Birmingham. They really know their stuff, apparently.

Ooh I'm going to have to go to Nottingham and get my Whittard fix! I think they closed the one in Derby :(

Sorry I kind of flit back and forth on here and don't get much chance to read back but I will tonight :D

Christmas Smooth Radio was what kept me going at work last year - we got a radio in the kitchen for working hard but I think my boss regretted it when we started belting out tunes during bingo! We used to switch between that, our Disney album and a Simpsons CD - Sundays will never be the same now :(

Got paid yesterday so Christmas Shopping will be in full swing now! Looking on eBay for some signed West Bromwich Albion stuff but how do you know if things are legitimate? There's a gorgeous pin badge on there for about £9 inc postage but not sure whether to get it. OH is getting cake, fudge, socks and boxers so far

I'll post a pic later of what I did with my Christmas cake disaster (I forgot to put eggs in it) - basically the inside of the cake was perfect, probably the best cake I'd ever made, but it lacked the bind that eggs provide. So mum and I rolled them into balls and made Christmas Pudding cakes!
