I've used Ancestry a lot in tracing my family (both sides) and DHs paternal family. It's been really interesting but you do get to a point where you just can't go any further because the records aren't there - you have to move to parish/local records after that. Having said that, I'm in England so finding records for Scotland and Northern Ireland may be much more difficult and I wouldn't know. It does seem like the birth and death records are for England and Wales. There is a help bit on the front page where you can email them questions so I think I'd probably do that before committing to any money and check if there are any Scottish records you can access through them. I do the monthly subscription and cancel and opt back in as and when I need to so you could perhaps try that if you decide to give it a go. Good luck.IrishRose12 wrote: »Yeah, I'm in N.Ireland apparently my family doesn't exist :rotfl: I've found that with quite a few family trees places now, One side of the family I can trace back to Scotland then that's as far as I can go, the other side I can't find anywhere:eek: So either they all married ghosts or I'm just not meant to find out about my family tree:(
I don't have the time nor the money to sit and go through them all now, so I've given upWhich I'm gutted about, but they really don't make it easy TBH
Thanks ladies. IrishRose, I think you are right and there isn't much info in there if you are in Scotland or NI. I will look and see of there is there's another site better to use. It flashed up somewhere that there was free military records for yesterday, so I went for a nosey. I have a good bit of info regarding my grandparents, so was looking for their births etc to find out my great grandparents details and go from there, but zilch came up no matter what I put in.
Peppapig- I didn't know you could just do a monthly thing, I will look into it after seeing if the info is on there somewhere, I just need to cancel the free trial or its over £100 will get debited.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
Nic if you are looking for Scottish family records then the best site to use is http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk but it is expensive to use (see http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=554&409 for charges). I'm afraid that I don't know of any free sites that contain Scottish records.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Wow, this thread is flying. I saw the JL ad on YouTube and loved it.
I'm in the North of England where a lot of smaller market towns have a most excellent small department store called Boyes. Boyes is brilliant for all sorts of OS stuff, enamel bakeware, decent hot water bottles, Stardrops..
This year Boyes have children's Christmas duvet sets for £9.99. The prints are OK, there's rather a cool one with cartoon reindeer and Christmas trees. However, I'm wondering if this is a step too far? Allowing time out of use for laundering, it's only going to get a few weeks of use each year.
I suppose it could be a family heirloom eventually and £9.99 won't break the bank, but I wonder how many of these Boyes will sell? Any thoughts, folks?Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." I haven't seen the cola advert but did see JL and I LOVE it, but I do love penguins and as a child Pingu was my faveAldi's is really good too, but I can't think as I have seen many of the others.
Going to finish the last couple of cards off tonight all being well and apart from a candle in a jar for my Grandad, Christmas presents are complete :j:beer: After looking through the list I have decided next year I am setting more strict limits and going more in the way of a hamper for people! Not overspent too much but next year money will be tighter anyway (£420 total spends on everything:eek:)
chrissy how exciting :xmastree: I am thinking of putting a few items out on my day off at the end of Nov before I put it all up on Dec 1st, unless I can side track myself with decorating our Christmas cake and present wrapping

MCCULLOCH i think christmas duvets are really popular now, most people put them on the beginning of December so you get a months worth of use. TBH i have seen christmas tablecloths 3 times that and they get even less use each year, if i had the money and they did a superkingsize at a decent price i think i would love one hahaAfternoon Everyone,

NEWTHRIFT well done on getting all your presents finished :T i think people get flustered when it is so busy because people are so impatient and if you dont park within 2 seconds flat they start getting irate especially this time of year  Haha i love it we used to do that park up somewhere near to see the fireworks instead of paying stupid prices#103 1p Saving Challenge Back to Front 293.94/665.95Currently Reading: Christmas at Cedarwood Lodge - Rebecca Raisin Debt Free thanks to MSE0 -

Good point about the tablecloths vs duvets. I hadn't realised they were popular as my grandchildren are outside that age range now at 12 on Saturday and 14 next June. But that reminds me, our Christmas tablecloth didn't make it out last year, I will have to check it over for marks before it goes on this year, so had better look soon to get it laundered in time.
I bought ours half price from Aldi one January, for about £3.99.
I love my post - Christmas bargains as I usually forget all about them and then have the pleasure of rediscovery in Dec.
I do have a little Christmas mat for the kitchen, along with Christmas tea-towels and a Christmas hand-towel that my sister gave me one year.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
