Looking for suggestions please!
Finish class next week and we are having our annual party, well, dips cakes & drinks! As our class was too big, we asked for it to be split, so we are having the food during last 15 mins of 1st class & 1st 15 mins of second, it is really only to sort out giving gift to our tutor. 1st class are doing sweet, 2nd savoury, I 'm in 1st.
Now my problem is that some of them are Muslim and Ramadan is starting at weekend, so they won't be able to eat or drink with us. Any suggestions as to what I can make, which they can take with them, but will be light for them to eat after they have broken fast, but still make them feel as if they have joined the rest of us?A smile costs little but creates much0 -
Just popped in to say congrats Freespirit on finally being free of your debts :j:beer::T
Also belated birthday wishes to dropsofjupiter and msgigglewick and anyone else I missed since last posting
I actually like the new format of the forum - only problem is that the signatures disappear as they only seem to run on one visible line, although there is a down arrow next to the signature box to expand them.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

RUTHHONEY oh i remember you saying there was a shop in Bournemouth with some nice ones, my exH had a Virago you just reminded me, as i could never remember the name of it. I did think when i looked it up last night wow i bet that is heavy, good for you! Ok i will let you know when i have read it, then perhaps you could pass it on if anyone else wants it after you, our own christmas book swapWow you have some reading to do haha i have 4 waiting to read at the moment and that will take me ages!
OMO oh well done that is great! :T:T:T
MRSMONEYPENNY glad you had a good albeit busy weekend, those christmas books get everywhere dont they
Of course I will! A Christmas book swap sounds good.
I think it'll take me a while to get through all these books. I wish I could read as fast as my friend does. She gets through a book a day!
Took the bike out for a longer ride yesterday. Out on some country roads to Theydon Bois. Getting used to changing the gears now, but the new centre of gravity and the weight is still odd. I loved the Virago-had the 250cc one before the 535cc and it's a great bike.Gettingtherequickly wrote: »Looking for suggestions please!

Have you looked on the Good Food website? They might have some ideas on there. I know the Muslim family upstairs make this very light cake that they've shared with us before, but no idea what it's called.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Evening everyone, i dont know crystal meth and being on the game what sort of people are on this thread today :rotfl::rotfl:
Oh CHRISSY poor thing, surely the drs need to find out more urgently what is wrong rather than the appt they have given you, she cant go on like that, bless her. I have never heard of manuka honey for sickness, will be interested to see if it does help/work! I am not surprised you are feeling desperate. Bl**dy insurances they make me so mad, wriggling out of things.
GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY i dont know if this is any help but noticed a lemon loaf cake on there:

Six months to go and all my grandchildrens' presents are bought and in the loft. I have 3 ages (by then) 3-6, two boys and a girl. My daughter in law is pregnant again but miscarried twice in the past year, so fingers crossed.
Here's what I bought, all bargains, of course.
2 x Bakugan Bowl Arenas
2 Bakugan Figures
Barbie case
3 x Blue Nose figurines set of 10
1 x Crayola Glam set
Set of Moshi monsters gold (car boot)
2 x helmets (Starwars if I remember)
1 x Jewellery Station
1 x Max Steel figures
2 x Micro Mosh Theme Park
2 x Max Steel Car
2 x Moshing micro figures
1 x Emma Bunton Skirt
I had a budget of £40 per child and have now spent just under £120 in total. I might buy some sweets nearer the time.
Part of me is pleased as I am always happy to buy for my grandchildren but then I wonder where they will put it all as they get stuff from all directions with us being quite a big extended family.
I save money monthly into a trust fund for them and the idea was that I wouldn't spend much on birthdays and Christmas but I love to see their faces.
The rest of the year I just buy things from charity shops (Ty bears etc. keep them amused for hours when they visit).0 -
How much would you charge for a Christmas cake?
I make them for family members and last year a customer at work asked if I'd make him one. He paid me £15 for it.
I was thinking about £10, is this not enough?
I let the customer pick everything
- which alcohol to use
- what fruit to use and/or exclude
- whether he wanted marzipan
- pattern or decoration on the icing.
I would extend this offer to everyone. I'm also planning on selling mince pies but again not sure how much to charge. Any suggestions?
I would just like to know so I can begin prepping. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

I suppose it depends on the size and if you are supplying everything. As an example, I make 8" square cakes, they cost about £5 for the ingredients, but then you need to factor in your time, cooking costs etc. Say minimum wage £6ish for the hour it takes to prepare, say £2 to cook it, you are looking at £13 already, and then you need to add on decorating costs. I don't decorate as most of my recipients don't cut it until nearly Easter, so my "costs" don't go beyond the initial costs.A smile costs little but creates much0 -
I would say for an 8 inch base then £15 is about right but you wont be getting much for your "time".I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.
