It is a good question.....If in emotional terms you refuse to buy a proper turkey on Christmas eve when the cooking by numbers one failed to appear do you
A Eat eggs and chips (I'm sorry family as I was emotionally unready to cook a turkey -here's your dinner)
B Run home to Mummy's
C Go to a different supermarket and pay for a turkey Waitrose offered you for free.
Really to refuse a turkey and force your entire family to do without just because you're having a drama lama moment sounds a mite childish.
When people talk about Christmas bringing out the inner child in everyone - trantrums and unreasonable behaviour aren't usually what they mean !!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I spent part of my Christmas Day working, which involved going to homes of vulnerable people who were extremely grateful that a local Church had provided them with a Christmas dinner, delivered by volunteers using locally donated food. They were so grateful because they either didn't have the funds or the ability to cook themselves a meal so to find you harping on about a turkey and being so up your own backside that you refused a free one ( which you could have given to a local charity to cook ) I have to say that you are possibly the most irritating and self centred person I have come across on these forums to date.

I actually agree, the turkey could have been given to someone else to cook. To be honest with you, I cant really relate as I dont eat turkey, neither do I have tons of family so a big christmas dinner isnt really what we do. I also understand it must have been disappointing for the order you placed not to arrive.
But theres much more to christmas than the turkey not being delivered. I used to work in homeless projects and most young people had somewhere to go at christmas, but a few didnt. The effort was made to make them a dinner and everyone got a present as well. There are so many people out there who have so little and thats not consolation when your own plans go belly up
But they didnt charge you, they offered you a free turkey, thats compensation enough as far as Im concerned.0 -
The worrying thing is these people breed !!0

OP , there are people on here posting who are not sure if they have a job to return to in the New Year or if their job will last..
There are people posting who are going to loose their homes in 2014 through no fault of their own except for loosing their income, there are people posting on here who are desperately trying to keep their homes heated and you are complaining because your boned poxy turkey from Waitrose was not avaliable??
ARGHHHH!!!!
You seriously need a reality check on whats important in life, if this is all it takes to 'ruin' your Xmas
No apologies0 -
One Christmas at the in-laws, as we all sat down to eat, MIL realised that she had forgotten to put our veggie main in the oven. I beat her to death with the turkey, divorced her son, and moved to Spain. Or rather, we had a good giggle, and ate the trimmings while the veggie dish was cooking. Then I divorced her son and moved to Spain. Sometimes you've just gotta roll with the punches, OP.0

Annoying and frustrating yes, but just a goodwill gesture, not compensation would be appropriate.
As for turkey being difficult - it is really simple (I did one today); mine went something like:- Read the cooking instructions and time on the turkey's packaging.
- Pre-heat the oven to 210.
- Open the bag the turkey came in and put it onto a roasting dish.
- After an hour take it out of the oven and cover it with foil.
- Put it back in the oven for the remaining 2 hours.
- Take it out of the oven and let it rest a few minutes.
- Hack it to bits and serve it.

WoW !! Has the BBC heard about you ??
Heston Blumenthal will be worried, where did you learn to cook like this ? Have you thought about writing a book ? There could be a series in this - "The Great British Roast Off" Or something .;)
Sorry, couldn't resist, do you think the OP will realise how ridiculous their post comes across ?0 -
The latest BBC hit, a spin off from The Great British Bake Off.
I will watch "The Great British Roast Off". Paul Hollywood will poke at the roasted meats to find fault etc. Surprise hit of 20140
