It is no different than a posh Sunday dinner, chuck the turkey in the oven, takes a bit longer than a chicken peel some veg and roast some spuds, how difficult or emotional is that?

Some people see Christmas dinner as this big feast they 'have' to get right, but if everyone gets a meal and they enjoy it, what's the problem.

  • TBH the emotional thing is because I have found it totally stressful to cook something only once a year that is not that simple.

No, did not take the offered free range whole turkey because of that - why should I?

Waitrose failed to deliver on something that I had planned my Christmas day around. I also felt let down, annoyed and disappointed that a shop with a good reputation had totally not fulfilled.

To cook a whole turkey I would have to go and get sausagemeat, sauce, cranberries etc.

Not something I was prepared to do.

How would you feel if you had ordered an Apple air but got a samsung tablet because shop had a muck up?

Serious, you gave up a free turkey. The same thing happened to me last year and i was well pleased with the free turkey i got that saved me £40. Any slight annoyance was gone with the free turkey and the alcohol i brought with the money i did not spend on the turkey.

  • I think they need to introduce a "This post is daft" button.

  • Went to Waitrose on 24th to collect de-boned stuffed turkey and drumsticks. Kept waiting 40 minutes only to be told order gone astray and not there! Offered conventional turkey for free which was GOOD except that not prepared in shopping terms or emotional terms to cook it.

Totally disappointed - that is predominant emotion, tbh. Took a stuffed breast but not the same. They did not charge and for that credit.

But I find it totally unacceptable that an order placed on 11 Nov is not delivered. Have emailed customer services. Want an explanation more than anything else.

What if I had elected to collect midday? Would there have been anything left?

    What do you think?

When i were a lass, roasting a bird, chicken or turkey, was putting it in a tin and shoving in in't oven. Nowt emotional about that.

We had to pick our way through twenty foot snowdrifts, before we caught our bird!
  • Mistakes happen! Things go astray. Big beal! They offered you a free turkey and you moan about it! So you want compensation for a problem that occurred, and a perfectly acceptable resolution was made?

I hope this 'emotional strain' won't scar you for life, poor diddums!

Seriously? A turkey being difficult to cook?

Are you kidding? Really. You can buy pre-made stuffing etc, and making it from scratch is hardly difficult.
I'm no Nigella, but I do all my Christmas dinner from scratch and it's easy as pie.

Wah wah wah, I can cook a turkey but I'm too stupid to understand that other people may not be exactly the same as myself.

    Good grief.
  • I used to be a civilian Head Chef in a Army kitchen and had to organize, cook & serve Christmas lunch for anywhere between 100-250 hungry soldiers, 3 course & ALL from scratch....... Now That's Stress !
Anyway hope you had a good Christmas lunch:D

  • Wow, first world problems. Your emotional cooking distress makes all if the starving and war-stricken countries seem like a tea party!
