    We had turkey risotto today.
There's some left for tomorrow too.
I hope to get another turkey for New Year's day.

    Are you emotionally prepared?

As to emotional bit - well, all those that watch the Bake Off, Celebrity Chef programmes - don't those that compete who really care about their food and how it is cooked show emotion?

You sad people - you obviously don't care about your food or how it is cooked.

    Emotion yes. Histrionics no.

In my experience, any decent chef worth his salt will be able to improvise and efficiently deal with a ingredient/menu change.

I sometimes ask for meals that aren't on the menu. I wonder how long the chefs have to emotionally prepare themselves for such a feat?

Maybe their session lasted 30 seconds and had 15 minutes of crying.

Hell I'd cry too if it only lasted 30 seconds.

I always unwrap and sniff mine ......if it smelt off I'd still have Christmas eve to deal with any issues.

    Scratch and sniff? :P

WOW such a long lived thread - my best ever. And such sad ppl for prolonging it. Didn't you have anything better to do over the holiday period?

I had 4 rib beef for 25th. I had got it with 25% off in August at Waitrose (Welsh Black for those that care) and stuck it in freezer.

Defrosted it over weekend and it was perfect for the day.

Bring it on - I will am looking forward to what else comes forth.

(Will this be the longest rant thread ever??)

Just because posters don't agree with you doesn't make them sad. Don't be so bloody rude!

And you did ask what people thought.
You just didn't like the results,. :rotfl:

Nope. One of them went way over 1000 posts. It was about Aldi not accepting credit cards!

People stuff their fridges at Xmas time, meat can go off if the fridge isn't running at the correct temperature, which can happen if there is too much stuff in there. Much better to freeze it on the day and defrost when needed. No need to worry then.

My fridge is a large one, so I can't help but be impressed by anyone that has room to put a turkey in theirs two days before Xmas.:T

Mine is always rammo with all the other stuff.

Yeah, you can freeze meat, but it is nice to have fresh stuff at Xmas.

    Let me think.....

Buying meat a month or 2 before Christmas and popping it in the freezer or ordering it from somewhere to pick up on 23rd/24th and risking such emotional distress as the OP has gone though if/when the order goes pear-shaped just to have fresh meat at Christmas?

    No contest for me.

The only shopping I do that late is fresh veg and dairy.
But then again, I don't obsess about Christmas being perfect in every way like some people do. The number of 'My Christmas was ruined because ....' threads there have been have amazed (and sometimes amused) me.

And the OP was perfectly happy to have 4 rib beef (is that forerib of beef or 4 rib?) - Welsh Black no less - bunged in the freezer for 4 months so, unless the piece of turkey she ordered was only available fresh, one wonders why she didn't have that in the freezer too.
  • I've been a vegetarian for 25 years. I found cooking meat just way too emotionally demanding - I'd have to lie down in a darkened room for an hour afterwards. So I gave it up. Natch.

How are you feeling emotionally now?

Maybe the posters agreeing with the OP are those people who obsess about Christmas and micro-plan every last detail so that every tiny little aspect of 'THE BIG DAY' will be perfect and they understand how the OP feels as that's how they would react to a hitch in said plan.....

And maybe the posters who think there's been an over-reaction here are people who are more laid back and can take a deviation from 'the plan' in their stride without saying 'Christmas was ruined because......'
