Last Log In 27/4/12 - Time to take back my life!

Its Christmas Eve 2013.

'You last visited 27/04/12'
and.....
You're still in debt!

I wish I could pinpoint what's led me back here. Perhaps its the thought that I'm turning 30 in 2014, that I have a 3 year old son, that I finally feel like I know the person I want to be, and the way I want to live my life, or the overwhelmingly need to finally feel some balance and 'peace' after 10 years of always owing some company somewhere money.

Whatever the reason the desired end result is still the same, and I find myself at the front door of 2014, my bags packed and my full and final settlement letters at their destination, awaiting their responses.

This has to be it now, this has to be the time to take ownership, to stop believing the worst of myself, to stop procrastinating that everything will take so long that any small effort will feel like wasted energy.

'The time will pass anyway, do not regret a moment of it'

Whilst it has been many moons since I was a prevalent member of the DFW forum, theres a chance I may see some familiar faces, and I most certainly hope that I can make some new friends along the way :p

I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Hi CAFCGirl

Glad to see you back again. I am still in debt and have more going out than coming in at the moment so have to look for a part time job to fit in around 3 girls (9, 7 and 5), just not sure what I want to do now. Tried working in Sainsburys last October until last Christmas and hated every single minute of it (night shift).

Will be subscribing, hopefully can get the debt down a bit in 2014 just need some ideas on how to sort myself out.

Hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year.

TMD! Whilst its nice to see a familiar name, I'm sad that things aren't better for you :(
What work experience do you have previous?
Have you tried local hospital, temp agencies?

Thankyou for the welcome Chev' and Mrs C, here's hoping to bright 2014's for us all

I am winding down our day with DS and his bedtime. Today hasn't exactly been the day I had hoped for but such is.
I feel very blessed by my gifts from my family, we had food on the table, money on the gas and electric, and escaped local flooding and whilst I do feel the festive love, I do feel somewhat 'low' today.

Perhaps the awaiting responses from debtors, and the come down from Christmas have hit me?

I've been trying to think of some things I can do to 'free up' my life, I feel weighed down a lot, and not just my debts... So I think an orange juice and some gateaux and a little brainstorming session are in order this evening

    Positive Achievements so far today

    £5.83 paid off my CC
    £3.00 paid into online saver
    Booked additional shift at work

Idea being that the additional shift money will be paid off the credit card, and I'll take the 'odd' pounds and pence into my online saver.
I've found I'm much better and more motivated working with the little things, I can achieve those, feel good and be pumped to do more, whereas the 'big picture' is just overwhelming to my mind so I avoid it...

Still not heard anything back on my letters but I'm hoping come the end of the week I start hearing something.

  • Hi

Sorry Christmas Day wasn't as good as you hoped for, it is great to see the little ones enjoying themselves though. My kids got so much from Santa (us), my parents and my brother and sil spent a lot on them, plus yesterday their Nan gave them £20 and lots of jewellery and hairbands and stuff, they are richer than me. I have 5p left in my purse (had to shell out the other £2 from the 'tooth fairy' as DD3's first tooth came out yesterday and she gets £1, the other two get 50p.

Job wise I have seen a couple I could apply for, one is at a junior school doing admin (although lots of competition for school jobs but I'll still apply). Also seen one for Data Entry for a Couriers 5 nights a week from 6pm for 3/4 hours a day and another for a Doctors Surgery doing Data Entry for 6 hours a week with the option for extra admin work if wanted.

Well done on the payments, every bit helps. I am feeling more positive about paying the debts off in 2014. I am so used to being at home, haven't worked since Apr 2004 (apart from 3 months at Sainsburys which I hated), so definitely need a part time job.

Hope you have a good New Year, think positive (that is what I am trying to do).

    Hey TMD,
Sorry Im late logging back in! I'm definitely out of the MSE habit.

Im glad you enjoyed Christmas and I hope you've applied for all of those jobs. If you dont ask, you dont get :)

Well not that much has changed here. I work as a 'temp' although have been in the same hospital department for almost 3 years, and a budget has been agreed to give me work 2 days a week so thats nice to know there's that level of income coming in for me.
I managed more hours over the Xmas/NYE period so next week I'll be getting a nice juicy paycheck. My ideal plan is to pay my CC £50 which will bring its outstanding to 1600 (I like round figures :) )

I've so far only had one reply regarding the full and final offers and that wasnt really anything, but an income and expenditure form to see what they'd be willing to do.
Im not sure how to approach that as I don't really want them telling me I can pay them pay £20 a month iyswim, and have it drag on for years.

    Any advice on that one?

  • Hi

Sorry don't have any advice on the Full and Final stuff as I've never done it myself (have lots of debt but am just managing to pay the minimum - sort of).

Great that you can work two days. It's hard to think of going back to work after being a SAHM for 10 years nearly but want to find something that pays £4-500 a month. I'm sure something will come up just need to get my CV done ready to send out to places.

I'm 45 in February and just want to get rid of the debt.
